[Q] How to install default apps in upgrade - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I would like to know how to install apps in android upgrades like as if it comes factory installed in original phone.
Like if we buy a new phone there are apps as default which cannot be uninstalled, how to run upgrade with select default, uninstallable apps.
I was looking to update the recovery but getting error "signature not verified, whole file" kinda error, how to get over it ?
I have already rooted phone with "super one click" do i need to use moto RSD lite, if yes please send me link for the the 'sbf' file.
thanks in advance

The app you are referring to,are called 'system apps'. If you need to convert an app to system app, use a root explorer and move the apk from /data/apps to /system/apps.
Or you can simply use an app like or /system app mover (play store) to do it automatically.

Please help with second part

1) Please tell me what other things i can do with this "root explorer"
and
3) Suppose i have installed one app from googleplay in one phone how can i transfer the file to another phone without having to download it again on another android phone

Root explorer allows you to edit your system files like build.prop, or bootanimation etc. Given you have the proper files to replace. Since it makes the system available for user to edit, should be used carefully or you might soft brick your device.
Though it is not advised to transfer apps(and illegal if you're transferring paid apps to a different account).
There are again two methods for that.
1.) Use root explorer and find the .apk file in data/app. Copy it and paste it on your sdcard. Transfer it to the other phone. Then open it using any file explorer.
2.) If you want to move apps in bulk, use an app like mybackup root, or titanium backup and make a backup of your apps. Find the backup file and copy it to other device. Then use the same app to restore your bckup.

[Q] Any way to restore uninstalled Skype app?

Rooted Droid 2 with Froyo 2.2 and 2.3.20 system update and am trying to recover a Verizon bloatware app I removed with Titanium Backup. Installing it from Amazon Marketplace won't do the trick.
I rooted my Droid 2 using Doroot, installed Titanium Backup and proceeded to stupidly uninstall the Skype bloatware that Verizon and Motorola so thoughtfully put on all our Droids.
Only later on did I learn that in order to receive OTA system and OS updates, one must have all bloatware present and accounted for in the /system/apps folder.
Can I use the skype_mobile.live.apk file that I downloaded in a Droid X backup file, or does the Droid 2 use a different version? If I can't use the Droid X Skype file, does anyone know where I can get the Droid 2 Skype file?
I'd like to be able to restore it without wiping the phone and reinstalling everything if possible.
And yes, I have learned my lesson about impulsively uninstalling apps that come with phones, even annoying ones.
Thank you for any help.
the droid x one is probably the same, but here's the droid 2 one. http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-2-hacks/86628-source-droid-2-apks.html#post885381
or
you can use this one http://www.droidforums.net/forum/xeudoxus/78843-apks-unlocked-apps.html
next time you want to uninstall a system app, just open Root Explorer and rename the file to *.bak. Changing the file extension like that will make it unrecognized so it will be uninstalled. Then, if you ever want it back, just change it back to *.apk
Thanks for the link and advice. I still need to get my hands on Root Explorer so I can restore Skype to the /system/apps folder and set its file properties to default.
Then I can get Gingerbread OTA.

How do you get your phone carrier and nation flag under your user name? I nosed around in my User CP and couldn't find any options to add those.
Just click on your user name in the top right corner. Then put in your carrier and pick your home country

APK application not installed

I am using root explorer to copy the city id and 3g hotspot apk from my sd card to system /app but every time I try to install I get application not installed. I changed permissions and everything. I do not know what I am doing wrong. I un installed them with titanium and want to restore them. I did a backup but did not see an option to reinstall. So, I just downloaded the apk's and am doing it this way.
Where did you get the apk's? I need the City id

Here is where I downloaded the cityid apk. Hope it helps. I do not even know if it was the right one. They are for the Droid X but I assumed since they are similar it would work but I can not ge it to install to my system /app

APK doesn't install
Yes, there's something strange going on with the TAB.
I get "application not installed" when I try to reinstall the mail app. I've also tried moving the APK into the system/app folder but it won't even with r/w access.
I've also tried installing with adb, but that throws INSTALL_FAILED_DEXOPT.
The same file installs fine on my HTC Desire.
I used Superoneclick to root the TAB, and terminal seems to get su without problem, but I think there's something I'm missing.
Any help gratefully received.

[HOW TO] Properly delete Swype from your Droid X

I've had issues with uninstalling swype for the longest time. Here is the thorough uninstall process for Swype.
Figured it out from another topic. Swype can be installed PROPERLY now. Working great too. Here are the instructions. Just follow them exactly and you're set.
1.Remove libswype from system/lib (using root explorer, or astro. MUST BE ROOTED to be able to remove files)
2.Remove swype.apk from system/app
3.Reboot into recovery, clear dalvik.cache.
4.Install new swype.
NOTE: To access system/lib and system/app you will need a root-based file manager such as Root Explorer. Root Explorer can be found on the market and is very useful all around.
i dont get it... at the end you say install new swype.. i thought you wanted swype gone?
He says that because the DX has version 1.64(?) And the latest is on version 2.15 (I think?). The builtin version can't be upgraded with the normal installer.
Where is version 2.15?
when i try to delete libswype/swype.apk it tells me I can because they're read only. any idea?

[Q] how to update/uninstall pre-installed apps?

Hello!!!
i am another happy owner of the Ideos X5! New to android but i read a lot, before every step.
Here is one problem that i can't find a solution.
My device has preinstalled the app "Documents to go" v 2.5004 (748). I got the "documents to go" v 3.001 but i can't install it. :S
I used Root Uninstaller to uninstall the app, it said that the app is uninstalled, but i still can't install the newer version.
I got a message that says that the app is not installed.
what should i do? :S
with root explorer go into system/app folder and see if there is any trash of this app left... also check into data/data folder...
in the first directory there aren't any leftovers and the second is empty.
any other suggestions?
maybe you can use a new room?

that's the most difficult solution, for a simple problem.
finally i switched to OfficeSuite v4.0.351.
the portuguese model have the stock apps in the folowing path:
cust/tmn/pt
The "TMN" is the company name, soo you maybe have some like this.
You can go in this path and delete the apps with Root Explorer, Mount R/W and long press on the app and select Delete.
Sorry about my english
As syckopt says, you can delete the .apk files via Root Explorer, but the directories may vary depending on which carrier you have (and which country).
For example, my directory is: /cust/Dialect/SE/app
@ syckopt , sebgus
The Greek model has most of the stock applications at this directory: system/app/
while at the /cust/wind/gr/app/ there are only three (GreekPack.apk , Layar.apk and TouchPal.apk)
there are some applications, they say that they can "freeze" some stock apps. what exactly is freezing?
please check out and my other active thread: [Q] how to migrate to a new SD card?
thank you all for your help!

Freezing is basically the same as renaming the app or removing it. Its just allows to to unfreeze it (or rename it back to original name again), which is a lot easier than using something like root explorer.

which is the best app to do this?
Hello,
I've got the same problem. As it is not possible to update the pre-installed Documents to Go via Google Play (I always get error -104) I uninstalled that app using Titanium Backup. But unfortunately, it is still not possible to install ANY version of Documents to Go. If I try to sideload the APK file, I only get "App was not installed". Google Play gives me various errors, mostly -4 or -104, refusing to install the app, either.
In System/apps, there is no remnants of Documents to Go as far as I can see, a directory named cust does not exist.
Please help.
Thank you very much in advance and kind regards,
DAC324

Are you using the google market? Allot of apps don't show in the Amazon market. If it isn't in the google market you could always sideload it.

<Root Explorer apparently cannot be side-loaded due to protected app. It appears that you need to install directly from the marketplace or another android application store.> - edit... others said this was incorrect and they were able to sideload Root Explorer. Not sure why we had issues. I was assisting a friend get his Market working and found that Root Explorer was no longer listed on Amazon App Store. We did find it on AppBrain, but the AppBrain app wouldn't install on the KF.
In the end we found that ES File Explorer had a 'unprotect system folder' option that allowed the Market APK to be moved into System/App. His market is now working great. Hope this helps. You should be able to fnd ES File Explorer on XDADev or on the Amazon App Store (free app).
I finally got it uploaded and now i save the apl files to sd card and when i go in to move them to system > app it sas that "you can not paste becasue the file system is read only and when i try to change the permissions it give a weird error
please help
i have ed but i cant find unprotected folder ou spoke of. please tell me if i did this wrong but i took the apk's and just put them right into the sd card....is that where the are supposed to go before the sys>app folder?

You must not have root access. You should be able to change the file system to r/w if you have given superuser permission. Are you sure you have root access? What program are you using? (Super manager, root explorer, es explorer, etc.) Did you try using adb to change the permissions?

You could use ES File Explorer from the amazon appstore. Just enable root mode.
//Tapatalk.KindleFire//
Just for reference, root explorer side loaded for me perfectly fine.
And you cant write to those protected folders without having root enabled.

My buddy kept getting an error that the app was unauthorized when trying to side-load. Tried to move it from sdcard/downloads to data/app and reboot and received the same error. Good to know Root Explorer can be side-loaded without having to install from the market directly if necessary. He was able to sideload all the other vvpGoogle apps and etc fine.
For anyone who can't download Root Explorer from the Amazon app store (I couldn't as I'm in Hong Kong) google root explorer apk and there are a couple of links with the apk for direct install - I think I registered for Mobiles24.com to get that and it worked fine for me.
However, I could only rarely change permissions with Root Explorer so I also searched for "Super manager android apk" which was better and easier to change permissions with. I also just started looking for Filestube/Megaupload links and then transferring by USB before installing with RE or SM
Still haven't got Android Market working - it loads and just says, "waiting for download to start"
I wonder if it's because it's my first Android and I don't have any devices listed?

I had the same problem. From what I can tell its the vending.apk
It would install and load fine, but no downloads would ever actually kick off.
Use the market apk thats in that gapps zip with the rest of the apps.
From what I can tell that's the newer market anyways and flashier than the vending.apk one.
That gapps one worked first try for me.
root explorer error
Hi all
New to this, total rookie, so please be patient
I live in Canada, got fire so trying to get droid market place. As far as I can tell I rooted it correctly using superoneclick. I cant access amazon market.place from Canada so I got root explorer from mobiles24.com and installed it on my kindle (I assume this what is meant by side install)
So now when I go to run it, iget the following error.
The application root explorer (Process com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again
Thoughts on what is causing this?
There root guide for Linux/Mac includes the APK and automatically installs it. You could follow the steps the script uses to install, or just sideload it.
I side load'ed mine. No problem

This, although it's not as obvious to switch to Read/Write as root explorer. Menu->Setings->Scroll to the Bottom->Check Root Explorer->Yes on Superuser Prompt->Check Mount File System
What I did though was, I pulled the APK for Root Explorer from my data/app folder on my G2, then put that onto the Fire.
Then using ES File Explorer I installed Root Explorer.
