Tara: One moment please.
Tara: The HTC deisre HD is upgradeable to version 2.3 (Gingerbread)
Johan 9711: i know, but will it ever be updated to 4.4?
Tara: Unfortunately I can't provide you with future information as I don't know anything of this yet.

Please don't start again this polemics. Is useless and I had enough. As an explanation to you HTC will never build again sense rom for the older devices and HTC is not Google to update Nexus devices with pure android.

Not to mention that even Google isn't updating the Galaxy Nexus, a phone newer than the HTC Desire HD. HTC is not going to update the DHD to 4.4.

It would be nice if they did though.
From the past

If your phone has not been updated in the past, it will not be updated now.
Yes, the 512MB comment is good but old devices are missing so much such as ARM instructions, drivers, companies that have went out of the mobile game (ti).....etc so many things.

It's safe to say, we're not getting 4.4 officially. Unofficially though is a different matter

This is a pointless duscussion and as you can easily see will only lead to trouble. Nothing you can say here will cahnge anything in HTC's decision. So leave it to the devs whether some see fit to do it...

Donut/1.6 on HTC Hero

Hey Guys,
I was wondering that since Google is already sharing the Donut Love with G1's and Magic's when are we gonna see some Donut love for our lovely piece of Hardware we all know as HERO ...
I am guessing Htc is working on the 1.6 SDK provided by Google to integrate it with ROSIE, but i am thinking the Developers here are alot faster than the guys and HTC.
So can we get a Rosie with 1.6 which is rooted ofcourse but nothing else... no other modifications i mean.
Respect to all.

Good question, I would love to see that as well... BUT I suppose it is not possible without the kernel sourse, unless Sprint's Hero comes out with 1.6 and then its ROM is ported to our European Heros. That's up to the devs!
Well the Sprint Hero HAS to come with Donut... It's CDMA, and that's only supported in Donut, so I'm almost 100% positive it will ship with Donut.

That was what I thought. But Joshua @ Engadget told me that their Sprint Hero review unit only has Android 1.5 on it. Well, Android 1.6 added support for CDMA does not necessarily mean that one cannot write a driver for Android 1.5 to support CDMA.
But anyway, I do think that it is almost likely that HTC will release a 1.6 update for the Hero in a not too distance future.
The Google experience G1s and Magics are purely that - stock Cupcake ROMs. The Hero presents a slight challenge as HTC put a lot of love into the ROM, with the addition of SenseUI. Hopefully, it won't take that long to cook a Donut ROM with SenseUI, but just making the transition of the great innovations from HTC for the Hero will be the stumbling block for a Donut-based ROM.
HTC Response to my Donut question.
I asked when they'd release a ROM using Dognut ( 1.6 ) for the Hero.
Their reply:
Good Morning, HTC do not release the ROM updates. Google do. If you have any questions relating thier operating system, the updates, its benefits and release dates please visit www.android.com for further support. Here at HTC, we manufacture the hardware on the device and release hotfixes for when reported bugs needs resolution. If you have a technical support related query regarding the device, please do not hesitate to contact us again. Kind Regards, HTC Europe
This has constantly been my experience with HTC - ask them a question and they say contact Google.

Man thats so frustrating innit. I am sure if we ask google, they wont comment either coz our hero is not with "GOOGLE EXPERIENCE" ..... what a load of cr*p
well i actually snooped around and heard a couple of ppl say that it should not be a difficult task for HTC to induce Rosie into 1.6, infact one of them even said " should be a peice of cake" so i am a hopless optimist and hopefully it'll be sent as an OTA upgrade or " HOTFIX " by HTC soon...
I'll call HTC too and see if i can get any more info out
update
Just got off the phone with a customer support officer from HTC UK. And she said that while they dont have the exact date on when HTC will issue and update bundled with Donut, It is under works and will be sooner rather than later..... now the waiting games begin
correct me if I'm wrong, but 1.6 doesn't bring that much for us Hero owners right? When the first announcements came I looked through the "Whats new" list and I didn't start shouting from excitement

well the only notable improvement might be of the speed and performance, although google didn't shout about it so i m thinking it'll be minimalistic ... however detailed battery usage, universal search and test to speech are a few things i wouldn't mind having....
But actually for me its just about getting the latest updates on the Android flagship device...

One benefit will be being able to run any future apps that require 1.6 (use 1.6-specific API features). We already have apps that run only on 1.5 or higher...
system-wide search feature would be nice...
I'm not sure if anyone has noticed this, but I signed up to point it out:
http://www.htc.com/europe/product/tattoo/specification.html
http://developer.htc.com/htc_tattoo_developer.html
The Tattoo will be shipping with Android 1.6, and it uses the Sense UI. That should mean that it isn't too far off for the Hero.
Looks promising! and the Tatoo is Due to launch orange UK this month
VPN and Global search are the two main features I am most excited about in the Donut
It's supposed to be faster also.
Does 1.6 not also include the improved App Store for Android?

HTC Tattoo To Be Upgraded to Android 2.1
12th March , 2010
HTC have confirmed that the HTC Tattoo will be upgraded to Android 2.1, which is the newest version of the Android operating system.
The current version running on the HTC Tattoo is version 1.6, which to be honest is really quite dated now so the update will be greatly appreciated.
The update to Android 2.1 will bring many benefits to the HTC Tattoo with the first being improved speed, reliability and efficiency across the whole platform. Additionally, you can have five home-screens on Android 2.1 , meaning you can have one for work, play, social networking and so on.
Android 2.1 also adds “Quick contact” functionality, which enables you to easily switch between address and social network contacts.
The HTC Tattoo has a 2.8 inch touch-screen, a 3.2 mega-pixel camera, FM radio and full 3G support. When we reviewed the HTC Tattoo here at 3G we concluded that “If you're hankering after an Android phone, this comes up with the goods for a (relatively) low price.”

"Newest version"? LOL Haven't they heard of FroYo?
Would like to know from where this reporter dude got this information...
Someone on android forums has said they got a reply from HTC saying that the latest update was to prepare for a2.1 update. Don't know how much to read into that though...

This is one of the 'brilliant' bits of journalism that sparked the Frandroid article.
Its all listed and discussed in the other much longer thread here on XDA.
In essence, it was a HTC customer support answer that was posted and discussed here and then ended up on Frandroid. All complete nonsense, as is that article above -- that piece above about Android 2.1 on the Tattoo shows a complete lack of knowledge about the Tattoo, they talk about 2.1 bringing five screens for f sake.
I would post all the links, but can't be bothered. The OP should have read the other three or four threads with the heading Android 2.1 that are right below this one.

The HTC Support person may be getting confused with the Hero update, they do that a lot ;-) as the announcements for the Hero did say it would be a minor ROM update at the begining of June followed by 2.1 later in June.
OR, us Tattoo owners could be in luck!
Somehow I don't think so though :-/

Yes.
...............
Honey Monster
What is Honeycomb, I've heard (read) a few posts refering to this, but the only Literature I can find refers to Android 3.0 which is supposedly Tablet only. Can someone show me the way to enlightenment so I too may share the dream. I would love to add more OS to the seemingly endless capabilities of my HD2.
It is meant for tablet only. However some have modified the roms to run on Phones.
However, apparently the current phone Honeycomb ROMS are flakey to say the least.
I am so used to a stable working gingerbread I'd be hesitant to jump ship until its been through a few iterations on the HD2

Is Google trying to fatten us up by feeding us all these sweets before throwing us into the oven?

Well my interest would simply be for trying it out for fun and curiosity more then as a daily OS.
Its primerily for tablets but would be nice to try on our HD2 screens, bit like the ubuntu UI.

[Q] Does the new Nexus One GB Update have Sense?

Okay, I can't believe I actually have to ask this question. I've read comments all over the web from people who got the new Gingerbread OTA update for their Nexus One's Feb 28th, but I haven't seen any actual screenshots of the UI (just of the About Phone page).
Engadget says the update comes from Google, which to me means AOSP. If I had instead heard it came from HTC, I would then assume it was Sense. With no new ROMs (as of the writing of this post) based on the new build, I have no other information recourse.
Can someone please just tell me if this new OTA update has Sense installed or not?
The Nexus one is (i think!) built by HTC though it has no HTC branding. It has Standard Android OS - No Sense!
Hope this helps!
the nexus doesnt use sense, only htc phones use sense

Thank you for your input, but the Nexus One was built by HTC.
No more like HTC branded phones only use sense e.g. HTC Desire, HTC HD2/LEO, HTC Desire HD (You don't see a HTC Nexus one on it's name do you?). The nexus one is a google branded phone, hence the name Google Nexus One. So it will never receive sense in any of its updates.
Let me post this link to put the flaming down to a minimum here:
http://www.htc.com/www/product/nexusone/specification.html
No where does it say that there will never be sense on the device.

well according to what ive been reading on twitter from the cynogen mod team
its laggy and unusable on a few phones they have got it working on
so may be quite awhile till it even branches down to the hd2
My personal opinion is that hd2 and devices with same or lower specs are dead devices for new android versions. With 4.1.2 allready lags in many ways and i dont think that this will magically get fixed.I am also really sad that many devs that started the hd2 android project arent anymore in the scene. The only hope to get a fully working 4.1.2 and 4.2 is to have all devs that worked in hd2 to work again on it.

First, sorry for my English.
Why do you think HD2 is dead device? Last week WP8 was ported to the HTC LEO and Desire C have almost the same hardware. As I remember that phone is supported by CM. Anyway I don't like buy a new device because have bigger, more numbers of CPU/GPU/RAM etc etc if my phone works enough fast. Why, Why I need buy a "new" device?? Because is supporting official by HTC?
BTW// HTC was twitt photo of HD2 and write some about working OSes on in it but nothing more...
My previous phone was HTC Magic and that phone had only one year fully supporting. Official still have Android 1.5 in Europe!! I'll never trust that company about support in the future.
Now I think even tytung (who is greatest small user) or DFT support that phone longer. Another devs did and doing great stuff of course too
Do you remember Desire HD and complain about Sense 3.5 or Desire about update to 2.3.. I don't have words for this.
