I would recommend flashing or temporarily booting a custom recovery and then flash the latest version of SuperSu which can be found here in recovery. This should give fix the binary need's to update error your encountering. Let me know if you still have questions.

Mine did the same. Then I chose the other option not normal and it installed it automatically through recovery. Before that it might be needed to download twrp recovery from here
http://www.teamw.in/project/twrp2/128. Use Android App Install Method.

I got my nexus 10 yesterday...
did the regular stuff:
fastboot oem unlock followed by fastboot flash recovery ... then i applied SuperSU.1.65 but its not workin > pic below.. any idea folks?

I would recommend flashing SuperSU again in recovery and if that still doesn't work take a look at CF-Auto root which will allow you to gain root access.

thanks for the answer.. I flashed 10x times.. same story... doesn't CF-Auto root flash an old version of supersu which is not compatible with android 4.3 ?

People have reported that CF-Auto Root works fine with Android 4.3 on the Nexus 10. You can also always update the SuperSU app and binary after successfully rooting with CF-Auto Root.

Thx my prob was solved by appying latest recovery and latest supersu 1.65

Same problem here
On starting SuperSU, here’s what I get:
>The SU binary needs to be updated. Continue?
[selected: Continue]
>If you have a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM, that can be used to (try to) install the SU binary. This is recommended for HTC devices. How would you like to install the SU binary? (Normal / TWRP/CWN)
[selected: Normal]
>Installing, please wait
>Installation failed!
As far as I can tell, I can’t install TRWP/CWN because the SuperSU binary is not updated, and I can’t update the the SuperSU binary unless TRWP/CWN is installed. This looks like a vicious circle, can anyone recommend a way out of it please?
Further background:
Device: Evolveo Xtraphone 4.5 Q4, rooted by SRSroot which recognised it as an HTC device.
Also attempted: updating from SD card with UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.86.zip, by running Superuser.apk from the zip folder. This takes me back to square one: “The SU binary needs to be updated. Continue?” etc.
Any recommendations enormously appreciated, thanks!

[Q] Help with lost root after 4.3 OTA update

Got a question. I lost root after the 4.3 ota update. Is it possible to get it back without losing everything on the tablet again? I was running SuperSU and OTARootkeeper at the time. When I got into OTARootkeeper is says the su file is there, but when I click restore root it seems not to be able to. I am not a super power user. I used WUGs tookkit to unlock it and root it in the first place. Also does this mean I lost unlock also?
Thanks!
I was in the same situation after installing the update through custom recovery. I remained unlocked. I used Wugs toolkit to root and install custom recovery (TWRP). In recovery I installed Chainfire's updated SuperSu zip. After booting back up, I had root and custom recovery. Search for SuperSu v1.43.

No, you do not lose data after flashing a recovery. Chainfire leased SuperSU 1.5 today.

Ok opened up Wugs Nexus Root toolkit. Let it update everything it wanted to and then then told it to root. I was indeed still unlocked and it went ahead and reestablished root without losing anything. I updated OTA RootKeeper afterward and all seems happy.
Thanks!

OK got one crazy issue. I root but sometimes I lose it and have to reboot to get it back. SuperSu can't write the binary. Every time I open it it wants to write the binary but can't seem to. After a reboot Otarootkeeper say root is there. Then later it will be gone and I have to reboot to get it back.

[Q] Lost Root after OTA update. How to properly re-root without messing the system?

Hello everyone,
I noticed that this is a common problem and I realize just not that I shouldn't have just updated without informing myself.
Anyway, I checked and the root seems to be gone (checked with Root Checker, although the SU app is still there [but not working]).
I checked the fastbook and it says 'unlocked', which is good, I don't have to lose data.
How do I re-root properly?
I am using OS X at the moment and I have access to adb but, if needed, I can access a Windows computer again and use Nexus Root Toolkit again (that's what I used the first time I rooted).
I have CWM-SuperSU-v0.98.zip and recovery-clockwork-6.0.1.9-manta.img.
I checked the bootloader and it says 'no command' but it still has:
- reboot system now
- apply update from ADB
- wipe data...
- wipe cache...
Thanks in advance for any help
First thing - Nearly always you will lose root after applying an OTA - at least lately so that's not really a big deal.
Second - Get and always use the Latest version of root zip from chainfire: http://download.chainfire.eu/370/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.80.zip
Or you can also just apply SuperSU from google play and you will prompted to reboot to update binaries etc. after you apply the OTA.
His blog on latest version: https://plus.google.com/+Chainfire/posts/QhrEdeJ3nqQ
I got the same problem.
I solved it by just by downgrading and upgrading back to the latest version of Cyanogenmod.

I have the same problem...
I have the same problem, I have installed the 4.4.3 OTA and now SuperSU stopped working.
Any advice?
Easily got my root back using Wugfresh toolkit.
Only the paid for version of SuperSU - "Pro" will attempt to keep root after an OTA update. It worked perfectly for me on a 5, 7 and 10.

Don`t use toolkits, just boot into TWRP in fastboot and reflash the latest superSU.zip and you`re rooted.

Well done mate , toolkits suck and you have no control over them. Flashing with adb gives you full control and you learn something

...after having to go through this over and over again with every single update I'm starting to think that having root is definitely not worth the pain.
If you switch to TWRP using its built in SuperSU install makes re-rooting a breeze.

you will get OTA updates.. it doesn't matter if your phone is rooted or not..

Well then you will be surprised to know that the people with root can update via OTA, it's just that they will loose their root privileges after updating.
The only requirement for the updates is that you need to be on the stock CyanogenMod recovery to take the benefit of the updates also you need to make sure that the apps or zips that you flashed might not have tempered with the core framework of the system as the update checks the signatures before updating and if they don't match installation fails.
As for the OP, make sure you flash the stock rom and that's it. You don't need to unroot in order to get the OTAs. But if have missed it you can always flash the update manually

I'd recommend to go and watch this thread on YU forums, it's not mine, but it's the first post that came on how to get the update manually.
But still in short all you need to do is :
1. Download the OTA's .img file from here : https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5qkmXkPr5WyMy1FUm9rNGdZZ2c/view?usp=sharing
2. Download the stock CyanogenMod Recovery from ere : https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0BwVitsnY-WxvRVNYcnhRM05vX2c&usp=sharing
3. Download Flashify from app store if u r sure that you r rooted.
4. Open Flashify >> select "Recovery Image" >> select "choose File" >> browse the Recovery .img file that you downloaded and flash it.
5. Open Custom recovery, go to "Update" browse and select your ota update .img file and flash it.
It'll take about a min to flash it and if all goes well, you will have the updated build and the proximity issue fixed !

[ROOT][RECOVERY][ALL IN ONE] Cf-Autoroot-twrp-T700/705/800/805/Tab S- UPDATE 23/4/15

Updated CF-autoroot with latest Supersu binaries and combined TWRP recovery for SM-T800/SM-T805/T700/T705 Exynos only, Lollipop and Kitkat
I've noticed that quite a number of people seeking to root their device also flash TWRP afterwards, seeing as it's unnecessary to do both steps I have made an all in one package to root and install TWRP recovery.
Cf-autoroot has been updated with the latest Supersu binaries and TWRP has been updated with my fixed version (ADB root shell and Download mode fixes).
UPDATE - I have updated all versions with new builds. TWRP is now v2.8.6.2 and now includes the fixes recently pushed to their repo for encrypted backups. I have also addressed the slow wipe issue, cache, system, etc., which some have experienced and should now be much quicker.
Each device now has it's own build, this is to ensure that TWRP recovery build properties reflect the device it's installed on. ROMs such as CM12 should now install without issue.
Feedback is welcome.
Simply flash with ODIN. Odin 10.6

UPDATED TWRP:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3074633
NOTE: It is important to boot to recovery after flashing or twrp may not stick and will be replaced with stock recovery.
When flashing uncheck auto reboot in Odin, immediately after flashing manually reboot and boot into twrp.
Manual reboot is POWER + HOME +VOL DOWN then as soon as the screen goes blank immediately change to VOL UP whilst still holding the other buttons.

After using the app with odin, root checker indicates that "Root access not properly configured or granted".
Root question comes up but can not check the box to allow.
Had an issue like this on a different device and it was corrected when I changed to ART, but do not know where it is in 5.0.2?
Just tried TWRP, and it is allowed.

Is the post below any solution to your problem?

If you still have problems you could open the Super su app and change in settings to 'Grant' root access by default.

As i know the method for root our phone is system mode, the systemless zip not work
Here the procedure that i followed for rooting my phone and is system mode
What you need:
Unlocked bootloader (see chapter 2).
TWRP installed (see chapter 7).
1.Zip .
2.Zip .
How:
Put 1.zip and 2.zip into your sd card/internal storage.
Boot into TWRP.
Ignore the message from TWRP.
Choose the "install" button.
Locate 1.zip (if on sd card go "up a level" and then "external sdcard" there you should find it).
Install it.
Reboot your phone.
Boot into TWRP again.
Locate 2.zip .
Install it.
Reboot
That's just the initial bootloader unlock and root method.
I used same method but later flashed custom rom witch also comes rooted. I have also unrooted and then rerooted systemless mode with SuperSU zip.

Things have changed a lot and android pay is working hard for avoid us pay with rooted phones.
Nowadays magisk is on v9 version and facing v10.
Want a clue?
If your mobile is compatible with multirom go this way. One rom rooted and modified as you want and another stock for doing payments.
