[Tutorial]What Are The Exactly Permissions To Replace Apps - Sony Cross-Device General

Hey Guys i have often seen lot of Question regarding the same "How to set the file permission,sorry i am a noob please explain?"
well this we come across on all threads, i post this quickly.
Reason being simple that we suggest some people to do as said below:
1) copy the file XXXX to your Internal or External sd-card.
2) push the file XXXX to sytem/xxxx folder.
3) set permissions to rw-r--r-- blah blah blah.
4) reboot your phone and see.
Then comes the question again from the same people as below:
Hey,
1) I have done accordingly, but really confused regarding File permission though please explain?
2) How to set File Permission?
3) what is rw-r--r-- blah blah i cannot get it? etc.
So this Simple Guide will defenetly help the people with the same.
Let me not go in depth regarding the same,Since this excellent Tutorial from Matt Doyle explain's in more detail about it
Understanding File Permissions- by Matt Doyle
In order to set the file permission all you need is to have Root explorer or similar type of File manager app been installed on your phone, with Root access.
when you open the File manager you see all your files and folder listed there, thats not our main concern, but something below each one of those file's or folder's, what we are really interested in like:
I take an example ofSemcAlbum.apk on my XP
Example 1:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
and when you select Permissions in that pop up menu it appears as below.
Example 2:
as you can see in the pic above the permission is set to rw-r--r-- (644)
So in order to set the right Permission for a file, after you have copied the file to the relavent folder, all you have to follow is the below steps and also the Table guide below it.
1)Any File Manager app like Root Explore installed with root access (Do ensure to Mount as R/W (Read/Write)).
2)Find the File which you have copied to the appropriate Folder for which you have to set Permissions with the above installed file manager app.
3) Long press on the file to open a pop up menu as shown in Fig 1 above.
4)Set Permission accordingly ( been suggested by people for you) using the table guide below as reference.
5) Then reboot your phone for the same (Permission set) to take effect.
Table Guide for Reference
----------------------------------
No- Box is Unchecked, Yes- Box Checked
So, for example:
777 is the same as rwxrwxrwx
755 is the same as rwxr-xr-x
666 is the same as rw-rw-rw
644 is the same as rw-r---r--
I do hope this Guide will come in handy to all those people who want to set filepermission, but need some clarity upon the same.
All Credit to Matt Doyle & Sun90
And also like to Thank the XDA for this wonderfull Knowledge based Site.
All constructive Comments to improve the same by my fellow Member's are Welcome

Is this good explained people?

Increase Wifi Strength with this tweak (Moving to development)Mods please delete

Hey guys I got a tweak from wolfs Rom working on my x10 that increases the signal greatly. Watch the how to video here. Works in all roms. (if you have Wolfs Rom this isnt necessary. He already has it)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jy0r-o1Bh9Q&feature=youtube_gdata_player
I now have over a 10000 kbps connection just like his in the video. Pretty cool.
First step unzip the file in your sd card then open the file via root explorer
Next go into system/etc/init.d and copy the modules script using root explorer.
Next go to your system on the actual phone (not the sd card) then go.to etc then find the folder called init.d. (if you dont have it flash this via recovery) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1236446
Then place modules in the init folder.
Next go back to your sd card where the 4.0.4 thing is and go into system*etc and copy the entire. Install sh recovery folder then go back to the actual phone and go to.system/etc and just paste it there and select yes if it asks u to overwrite something.
Finally find the install recovery thing
you just copied and click it once and press execute.
Then your done.
How to test if it worked. Before u do the tweak download speed test from the market and test your current wifi speed. After tweak test it again. Note it may require a reboot.
Get it here. http://www.datafilehost.com/get.php?file=a18d42a6

you do realize that overwriting install-recovery.sh will overwrite any other init.d scripts the person might have and also any tweaks put in there by the dev (if you are using it on any other rom than wolfbreaks)?
You shouldn't be advising people to do stuff like this without at least warning them about what they're doing.

[FIX] WiFi Fix for WPA & WPA2 Connections (CM7)

CM7 Wi-Fi Fix for WPA & WPA2 Connections!
-----------------------
I'm back guys, with another thread
This will probably be my last one in the X8 forums due to my departure in exactly one week
So, this thread is a quick and easy fix for the problem that some people are experiencing with their
WiFi on CM7!, mostly WPA2 networks....like mine.
------
Guide
------
1. First, download this file. This is the fix. (ITS NOT A FLASHABLE ZIP!!)
Recommended

Mirror
http://d-h.st/rII <-- Dev-Host is ofiicial XDA hosting
http://db.tt/AXn4CqCF
2. Now, you must get Titanium Backup. Either via the Market using 3G or downloading it on
your PC and transferring it to your phone. I don't support piracy so please, just get the Lite version.
3. Install the file on your phone.
4. Now, either on your phone or PC, extract the fix that I've listed for download above.
5. Once you've got both things done, proceed to this next step.
a. If you've installed Titanium Backup then you'll have the 'TitaniumBackup' folder on your SD cards root.
b. When you extracted the ZIP, there was two files there. Copy them both to the 'TitaniumBackup' folder on your SD card.
6. Open Titanium Backup and press on the second tab 'middle tab' .
Scroll to the very bottom and choose 'WiFi Access Points' and hit restore. If it asks to restore data, hit yes.
7. REQUIRED! Reboot your phone.
8. Once you've rebooted Connect to your WiFi and bam, welcome back to your WiFi.
This has worked for me each and EVERY time I've used this fix. Its also worked for a good few people that I've shared this with.
A lot of people started encountering this so I decided I might as well share my fix. Kinda embarrassed as I found the fix in November :embarrassed:
I hope you guys have enjoyed this guide and hope it worked for you.
Just want to say goodbye to everybody and I've had a wonderful time in the X8 community, whether it was GingerDX or the new maintainers or if it was CM9, it was great.
Thank you everybody

[Guide] Port jelly bean!

Start with a pure sdk system dump and deodex it - or use one of the dumps floating around here that are pre deodexed
you need to basically merge it with your latest ics build - I used my last compile of cm9 as a base but needless to say the closer the base is to aosp the better. You'll want to keep as much of the sdk pristine as possible basically just add in the things you need that are device specific such as:
any platform named hw libs from /system/lib/hw
your egl files from /system/lib/egl
your modules from system/lib/modules
wifi, bluetooth, and gps related files from /system/etc
you also will need your idc and keymap files and all the other device specific items out of /system/usr folders so your input methods will work - no idc files means no touch screen
the above error looks like a framework and lib are not getting along. Make sure the frameworks and all of the root /libs are sdk originals you can copy libs over to your sdk port that are not included however just don't overwrite any
make sure you properly modifiy the build.prop to match your device
copy busybox to the working folder into /system/bin and /system/xbin make sure every binary is executable! symlink /system/bin/busybox to /system/bin/sh and replace the sdk version of toolbox bin with the ics version
in ramdisk retain your device.init.rc but replace everything else with what comes in the sdk ramdisk - download the sdk properly and extract the ramdisk as cpio.gz extract it and use it as a base only adding the device specific .rcs that you need. If init.rc needs a few changes make them but as a rule you can usually just use your device.init.rc and keep the master clean. Be sure that init.traces.rc is in your ramdisk it's a new file for jellybean and it gives a crapload of errors when it's not there.
try not to load any wifi modules for initial tests - theres some changes that are screwing mine up if I set my modules to load on boot- it prevents a full boot.
Send your thanks here! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28020178&postcount=36 Thanks randomblame!:laugh:

Yeah I think XDA is for helping each other and to try to develop, I mean not only develop Android thingys, but to develop ourselves, so please help each other in peace and respect anyone who tries to do something for our community, even if he/she is a beginner developer. Only thing I can wish to the OP is good luck and to never give up! Ask one of the more veteran Developers for help, it's not a shame, but never forget the respect to each other.

Finally someone said this... I am really surprised how everyone call themselfs good developers and they are in fact not good people at all. Reading some of these replies I can only say that you guys disappointed me. You should help the beginners and encourage them to develop something and learn more by I dont know , giving them links where they can learn things, pm them with solutions and other tips, or not telling them anything at all.
How much is your created port zip?
Our system can handle around 115mb
If is above,can you light the system by creating a folder,in where meta inf and system is,called data and put some apks from system/app
of course must give and the correct permissions in updater script:

In order to set the file permission all you need is to have Root explore/Browser or similar type of File manager app been installed on your phone, with Root access.
when you open the File manager you see all your files and folder listed there, thats not our main concern, but something below each one of those file's or folder's, what we are really interested in like:
under say Data folder you see something like 'rwxrwx--x' which is of real concern here.
when you long press on the same Data Folder a pop appears as below
Fig 1
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
and when you select Permissions in that pop up menu it appears as below.
Fig 2
as you can see in the pic above the permission is set to 'rwxrwx--x' (771 according to Table below)
So in order to set the right Permission for a file, after you have copied the file to the relavent folder, all you have to follow is the below steps and also the Table guide below it.
1)Any File Manager app like Root Explorer/Browser,Es-file explorer installed with root access (Do ensure to Mount as R/W (Read/Write)).
2)Find the File which you have copied to the appropriate Folder for which you have to set Permissions with the above installed file manager app.
3) Long press on the file to open a pop up menu as shown in Fig 1 above.
4)Set Permission accordingly ( been suggested by people for you) using the table guide below as reference.
5) Then reboot your phone for the same (Permission set) to take effect.
Table Guide for Reference
----------------------------------
No- Box is Unchecked, Yes- Box Checked
So, for example:
777 is the same as rwxrwxrwx
755 is the same as rwxr-xr-x
666 is the same as rw-rw-rw- and so on.
I do hope this Guide will come in handy to all those people who want to set filepermission, but need some clarity upon the same.
All Credit to Matt Doyle for his Excellent Tutorial on 'Understanding File Permissions' which being an inspiration for me to make this Guide.
And also like to Thank the XDA for this wonderfull Knowledge based Site.
All constructive Comments to improve the same by my fellow Member's are Welcome

Possible fix for sound issue on kitkat

Method 1
I noticed one thing, that kitkat doesn't have this folder:
system/etc/snd_soc_msm
and files:
system/etc/snd_soc_msm/ snd_soc_msm_Taiko
system/etc/snd_soc_msm/ snd_soc_msm_Taiko_1x
located in firmware.
Just place the files in the attach on this location with 644 permissions and reboot.

I get the files from an audio mod made for 4.3 but I think this file solves our audio issue.
