Google Maps, Facebook and ADB

Hello All.
I've had my UK, T-Mobile G1 for quite a while now. I have rooted it and it is running the latest CyanogenMod recovery image and ROM. I also have Apps2SD set up on my 8GB SD card, on a 512MB ext partition. This was all working fine until the problems below occurred...
I'm having some problems with several apps and ADB.
My PC runs Windows 7, 64 bit, and I can't seem to find a driver for the G1's ADB. I'm probably being incredibly stupid, but I just can't find one. I have used one before on Vista, where I had to set some boot options, but I'm not too sure / happy about doing that on my nicely functioning Windows 7. And as my friend once said; "You mess around with windows, then windows will mess around with you"...
But, anyway, I can't seem to get ADB working, if someone could either send me a link to the drivers or guide me through it, I'd be grateful...
Also, it may be due to me running CyanogenMod, but if I try to update the Facebook app, it downloads the app, and then when it tries to install, gives me the error "Installation Unsuccessful - Incompatible Update".
And with the Google Maps app, it says "Installation unsuccessful - Package file was not signed correctly". This may be due to me trying to get the hacked version of the app to get the Google Maps Navigation working in the UK, but I couldn't get that to work, so I uninstalled it and Nav Launcher, and now when I try to update from the Market it gives me that error.
I've seen a guide online with ADB commands, but as I have no access to ADB, I'm a tad screwed. I've tried runnign the commands in the Terminal Emulator in the phone, which does approximately nothing whatsoever.
So, can anyone give me any guidance on any of my Android problems?

Ah. Looks like I'll be reinstalling Ubuntu then for the ADB. Thank you for such a fast response.

In that case, do you remember where you obtained the driver from? I would love a link, or a zip file or something...

I'm on Vista x64 SP2 and I can use ADB just fine. You just need to download the SDK and then get the USB driver through there. It used to come included, but now you need to use the ADV and SDK manager and download the drivers as an SDK Component through there.
After that, make sure your phone is set to USB Debugging mode and plug it in then point windows to the new drivers. If it doesn't want to install the new drivers, you might need to remove the old ones first. I had to use USB Deview (DL link at bottom of page) and removed all installed HTC drivers. After that I plugged my G1 back in, pointed it at the newly downloaded drivers and all was well.

I'm running adb/fastboot/android sdk on win7 64b ultimate. The drivers are included in the sdk download. Once you download the sdk, make sure you have java installed. (I had to install JRE and JDK to get it to work properly, not sure if this was needed) Anyhow, when you have the sdk downloaded, run the sdk setup program. Go to settings and check the box for force update (unsure of the exact terminology used there) then go to available updates and your drivers are the last option on the list.

[Q] How do I go back to windows7?

I upgraded my asus laptop to windows 8, and the d drive that had a stock backup of windows 7 got wiped somewhow..... so I really want to go back to windows7. I dont have a disc but i do have the windows 7 product key on my laptop... I cant dual boot, i cant connect phones to qpst... my work for school cant be done on windows 8..... I NEED windows 7 back... how can i do this?

A) Given that Win8 is compatible with all software and damn near all drivers that Win7 was (a few legacy driver models, like the ability to use XP video drivers, were deprecated), I doubt you actually can't use Win8 instead.*
B) You need Windows installation media to install Windows. I would hope this would be self-explanatory. It usually comes on a DVD (in a "box", or with your PC) or in a DVD image (giant .ISO file). However, your PC may have a "recovery volume" (a reserved chunk of the hard drive) containing the install image.
* You may need to do one or both of the following to get legacy software to work:
1) Enable the legacy .NET framework versions. Start -> type "features" -> look under Settings -> Turn Windows features on or off -> .NET Framework 3.5.
1.1) If you need .NET 1.1, you'll have to download and install that separately, I think, although at this point that version is like 10 years old.
2) Run programs in Compatibility Mode. For programs designed to run under XP, this includes running them as Admin. Right-click the program (in Windows Explorer; you can get there by right-clicking the tile in Start and selecting Open File Location), go to Properties -> Compatibility. Choose the compatibility option(s) most suitable to your needs.

If it's a driver issue you're having, which it most likely is because most driver install tools aren't ready for Win8 yet, you'll need to extract the relevant driver from the executable (or find one extracted online somewhere) and install it using the windows device manager.
If you can't find a solution to the problem, burn the relevant Win7 ISO file to your license key, and reinstall Windows 7 from that until devices become more compatible.

Could be he's. Used to win 7 ,doesn't want to relearn 8 doesnt want to re install drivers and still nothing works, I'm not harping against 8. ,just think its really not. A desktop OS,works great as a phone and a tablet,useless as a desktop

I got everything situated... Windows 8 is just better with a touch screen and i miss my windows 7 themes and stuff. Now only way to boot windows is thru bios boot override... Or else grub only lets me boot ubuntu.... A little annoying but tolerable

You can download one of these upgrade isos from Digital River/Microsoft and then install using your key. Make sure you download the appropriate version Pro, Home, etc, it should say next to your key what it is and chances are your computer can run x64 unless its a netbook.

I've used these isos with OEM Windows 7 keys and it activates just fine and is perfectly legal since its your licensed key and the ISOs I linked to are unmodified from Microsoft and require a key to work.

Tutorial: Install Windows Phone 8 SDK on Windows 7 the Easy Way

I have made a modified installer for the Windows Phone 8 SDK that will run on Windows 7 x64. I installed visual studio before I installed the SDK, but it shouldn't matter as this will install visual studio express for windows phone, if needed.
To install the SDK, perform the following:
1. Download the Windows Phone 8 SDK iso file. You can get it at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=257234&clcid=0x409
2. extract the contents of the ISO to the location of your choosing.
3. Download the modified "WPexpress_full.exe" that is attached to this post and use it to replace the one in the iso.
4. run setup as normal.
Everything will install and work.*
*I was getting an error when I launched the "Application Deployment" app. Once I updated Visual Studio 2012 to Update 3, it fixed it. EVERYTHING WORKS!!
Just wanted to add everything works 100%...I was able to recompile and deploy some xaps I wrote on my win 8 PC to my phone with no issues!

right now it will only work with Win7 x64 as the developer tools require it to function properly.

Yeah a 32 bit version would be nice. As running via VMware is a little too time consuming for me liking!

It did not work for me... Windows 7, 64-bit system.
I get an error after the installation has gone for a while.

Won't work for me.. it installs (after installing Visual Studio manually first), but the XAML Interface Builder crashes.

I've successfully installed the SDK on my Windows 7 x64 PC after installing and updating zune and .net framework 4.5. Every softwares are working with the visual studio update 3.
But I don't have succeed to register my ativ s phone because the Windows Phone Developer Registration program is unable to connect the phone. The screen is not locked, I don't have sd card, I try to change name, usb port, without firewall, with date+hour manual. The "Windows Phone IP over USB Transport" service is working and I've installed and uninstalled several times drivers of the phone. When I connected it to pc, windows installed two drivers: for the USB and for the phone but it failed to install a third one for Windows phone 8? Is it useful? not sure because I can discuss and navigate without problems with the windows phone 8 program for windows 7 without problems.
Any suggestions to make my ativ s recognized by the registration programm on windows 7?

I'm getting this error:

@Gampanat I would try installing Visual Studio 2012 Update 3 first.
The sequences I went through were:
1. install Visual Studio 2012.
2. Install the SDK.
3. The tools wouldn't work...(I forget what the error was)
4. Update Visual Studio 2012 to Update 3.
5. all tools worked great.
When I had to rebuild my Windows 7 box, I did the following:
1. Install Visual Studio 2012
2. Install Visual Studio 2012 Update 3.
3. Install the Windows Phone 8 SDK.
4. Everything "just worked" using this sequence.

In your case, make sure Visual Studio 2012 Update 3 is installed.
@organite Weird...it worked fine for my HTC 8x on Windows 7 x64. I'd check your internet connection and make sure the tool can get out to the servers ok.
@linusplus make sure your date and time are correct on your system before installation. If it is, try setting the date on your system back to Sept 1, 2013, unplug/disable Internet, and try installing again in offline mode.

Change the System Date to 1 september in your computer.

I install success with steps:
1. Install VS 2012 ultimate with SP2 (already have before)
2. Install VS 2012 SP3
3. Change date to Dec, 1, 2013 and install SDK 8, (if set correct date, got certificate error)
OK every things works well, but when I create Windows Phone Application, after set name for app and press OK button to create app, I got error:
Object reference not set to an instance

Gents, I was able to install the SDK with the date setting trick, itt seems to be working, I was even able to dev. unlock my phone, but deploying applications just doesn't work I receive an error message:
Exception of type Microsoft.SmartDevice.Connectivity.PlatformNotFound exception was thrown.
Any hints how to overcome this?

Are you able to deploy apps to your phone as well?

I was able to deploy apps. Took some fiddling to get the phone to *connect* to the PC, but that's been a problem on my Win8 machine too... *rolls eyes*.

I ve installed successfully on win7x64 but I get this error whenever I try to run a app
Value cannot be null.

Are you trying to debug an app on the phone, or use the emulator? The last cannot work on Win7; the so-called emulator is actually an x86 virtual machine image running in Hyper-V, and Win7 can't run Hyper-V.
You also may need to reboot.

Hey, have you tried running it inside Windows Server 2008 or just Server 2008 R2's Hyper-V? I don't think there should be any driver differences on the VM side, but that would remove the SLAT issue.

Register my Lumia 520 so I can run a developer app without Win8 64bit?

A friend of mine develops applications and I just want to sideload a single application of his. My current computer is not running Windows 8 64-bit so I can't install the SDK. How can I register my phone so I can be granted the 2 application limit for the free developers?

[TUT] Install Windows Phone Power Tools 2.5.5 on Windows 7

I was a bit annoyed when I couldn't install Windows Phone Power Tools on Windows 7 due to Visual Studio 2012 needed, but I found a way to get it working. So.. here =D
Step 1 - Install this lite version of Windows Phone 8 SDK and it's prerequisites from here (works on Windows 7, includes Developer Unlock and stock WP8 SDK XAP deployment)
Step 2 - Install Visual Studio Express 2010 (yes 2010) from visualstudio.com
Step 3 - Download Windows Phone Power Tools from http://wptools.codeplex.com/
Step 4 - Now Power Tools should install, since it has the required resources, albeit older ones, to install.
Step 5 - Uninstall Visual Studio 2010 if desired (you can by opening it's install thing again). Not necesarry I don't believe.
Step 6 - Enjoy WPPT on Windows 7 =D

If you have to ask, the answer is probably "no". It deploys homebrew and development apps. It is neither intended for, nor particularly useful for, pirating apps or games (discussion of which is strictly prohibited on XDA, by the way...)
