Is the $6.99 Insurance worth it?? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I have the $6.99 insurance for AT&T but my question is, is it really worth it? Are there better places to get insurance because for Asurion the s4 is Tier 3 which means a $200 deductible which to me is outrageous. I need your guy's opinions

I do best buy black tie $9.99 a month for any damage, no deductible. Just doesn't cover loss/theft

It covers damage but not lost or stolen..

im not worried about lost or stolen im worried because the glass is thinner and just as breakable
how would i go about getting bestbuy insurance

In case, Squaretrade can't be beat..
$5.99 a month or a $99 one time fee for 2-years of coverage and a $99 deductible..

You can also buy best buys outright for $170 with no deductible and no limit to the claims. Also if they cannot fix/replace the phone they give you a store credit for the full retail of the phone so that you can pick something else out.

i just bought 5.99 insurance thanks guys for the help

I dont know how yalls home insurance is but we have state farm. They cover electronics. We have 2 50" flat screens, ps3, laptop, and 2 gs4's and its 29.99 month. I think she said it was 2.99 month for each phone. Full coverage. But all thats tied into home insurance.

Gorilla Glass... Pfff - I think not!

Girlfriend just got home and found out her daughter dropped her EVO. Called Sprint and those tards want $100 for the deductible (TEP since day one). Still debating on what to do, seeing as I have several options...
1 - File claim, pay $100, return damaged phone, and receive a new phone. Easiest
2 - File claim (as lost), pay $100, receive new phone and try to sell for parts.
3 - File claim (as lost), pay $100, receive new phone, replace Glass then sell with Bad ESN and net make profit of about $200
I guess you can consider this a rant, I just think it's dumb that you have to pay a deductible when you are returning a phone to them. If I didn't have to pay a deductible, I'd return the phone without issue. However, I've already paid $200 for a phone + $10 "Premium Data" (x3) + $7 TEP (x3) and now $100 to have it "fixed"... WEAK.
You were unaware of the terms when you got the insurance?
Sent from the void...
...gorilla glass is scratch proof... not shatter resistant... but i would go with option #3
The reason you are paying a $100
deductible is because of options 2 & 3.
People who do this ruin a good thing for the rest of us. Don't add to the problem please.

Well aware of the deductible, but when presented it was worded as if "LOST or STOLEN" phone would be $100. I had a Treo 800W (never with a cracked screen) that had tons of hardware issues, each time I went in to a Sprint Store automatic replacement without being charged even outside warranty period.
I'm not blaming my ignorance here, I should have read where it said if damaged $100 deductible still applied. However, I was just simply stating its dumb that if you RETURN a phone in "somehwat-working" condition why would it warrant a deductible ? I've already paid $21 in to the insurance...

You're absolutely right, and I do not condone fraud in anyway! Having said that it irks me that their policies leave a nasty taste in the "Do-Rights" mouth forcing them to resort to OPTIONS 2 or 3.

A little material science lesson here.....
Hardness of a material is directly correlated with its brittleness. Gorilla glass is very hard; it is not shatter resistant. It is only scratch resistant.
It's not Gorilla Glass.
$100 is a steal for a new EVO. I thought everyone knew there was a $100 deduct. Personally Id keep it and part it out.

Well I just had that same thing happen to me about 3 weeks ago. Dropped it & shattered the screen. It took a couple weeks to get it because they are back-ordered everywhere, including Sprint/Asurion but they sent me a brand new phone, in new original packaging with new battery, charger, 8MB memory card...etc. Granted it came pre-updated with 2.2 so I lost root capability for now, but $100 got me a new phone.

Where do people get the idea that the EVO has gorilla glass because it doesn't and I thought we all knew that and even if it did in the end its still glass and glass breaks.
Yeah...it was well documented before release that the EVO did not use Gorilla Glass.
Yep, I have the the very small scratches to prove it isn't Gorilla glass. I'm disappointed with that because my Hero had great scratch resistance. Anyways, people are right, this is the way the terms of the insurance work. We might not agree, but that's how business works.

Sell on eBay with Bad ESN and advertise for use with Cricket/Metro PCS etc... $365ish
$167

[Q] Insurance plans for new phones (EVO 4g LTE) No deductible plan found...

I had read on a recent RSS Feed that Asurion is upping premiums to $11.00 or more per month and deductibles are rising from $100 to $200.
This is awful. But, It seems that on wirefly, when you go to pre-order the EVO 4G LTE, they are offering insurance with NO deductible and only $7.00 or so a month.
Reference: https://www.wirefly.com/AdditionalD...c76&referringdomain=wirefly&agent=&viewmode=1
Is this a Wirefly only offer or is this how its going with everyone? (Sprint, Best Buy?) If this is the case from Wirefly only, then that might be a deciding factor for me...
Thanks!
I heard the new insurance changes are due to take effect June 6. Chances are, the info you read about is outdated and you would still be charged the same upped charges

As far as I can tell, Wirefly doesn't use Asurion. So whatever changes they're making shouldn't affect Wirefly's insurance.
I pre-ordered my LTEvo from Wirefly with no contract and got the Platinum Insurance package. I have a device on a corporate account which has no insurance, so this was the best possible solution. I had no idea such a plan existed. So now all I have to pay is $7.49 a month for my phone, and I have the peace of mind knowing that if I have issues (like I've had with the last several OG refurbs I've gotten), I can get a working "comparable device" as a replacement.
Thanks to sgt. slaughter for posting that Wirefly link in that other thread. I was worried when I couldn't preorder on the Sprint site without a contract that I'd have to wait until launch day to get it .
EDIT: Though I just noticed the Wirefly insurance does NOT cover liquid damage, which Asurion does cover. That seems to be the only disadvantage I could see .
Zagg (Invisible Shield) now offers a warranty. There is a $99 up front fee for two years of coverage which comes out to just over $4 a month (A $59.00 deductible may apply) the Zagg coverage covers water damage as well. I have been paying for the coverage on my Evo 3D and Evo 4G through sprint and have been thinking about trying Zagg out for the new Evo LTE I just ordered. It would save money in the long run.

This is interesting.
This is cheaper than the Wirefly insurance, but has a deductible (which Wirefly doesn't), but it actually covers liquid damage (which Wirefly doesn't).
The other difference is that the Zagg insurance doesn't cover a lost or stolen device, while the Wirefly insurance does.
Historically, I haven't lost my device or gotten it liquid damaged (except the one time I accidentally jumped into a pool with my Motorola V710 in my pocket), so I'm having difficulty deciding which plan to go with.
I'll probably just end up going with the cheaper option, but if I do that, I'll probably end up losing my device. And if I go with the more expensive option, I'll probably drop it into a puddle. Stupid decisions.
the insurance wirefly offers is amazing and been wanting to change my sprint pre order to wirefly but sprint wont cancel mine. bastard

Actually, the Wirefly insurance doesn't mention "lost". It only mentions theft. In fact, it speciffically states that if the phone was not secured (i.e. in your car with the door un-locked) it is not covered! No matter that it was stolen.
And, from experience, these companies make you provide a police report. So if you leave it on a bus or in your car and no window was broken, good luck collecting. No water damage, no lost phone, partial theft coverage, no thanks.

Nice observation.
I actually already cancelled the Wirefly insurance, and will be taking advantage of the Zagg offer instead, once my device arrives. Seems more likely that I'd accidentally drop my device in a puddle then I'd have it stolen directly off my person in a situation where I'd have to contact the authorities.

I would rather pay Asurion 11$ with a 200$ deductible and get a new EVOLTE, than pay 7$ a month with no deductible to get a replacement phone that is not EVOLTE. There is a difference. You get what you pay for.

I don't even know if you can just for something that costs $199. If you could, I don't think it'd be worth it. In my case, it would fall under my renter's insurance--although IIRC my deductible is around $200.
It's £60 here for an extended 2 year warranty including damage, not worth it for a £190 tablet.

I wonder if it would be covered through Homeowners insurance.
You can take it to best buy and buy a protection warranty. Only thing is, for a tablet like this it costs 199.99. WTF! I'm not paying another 200 on top of the 250 I just paid. That's like paying for a $450 iP*d (had to censor or I would get killed ;p )
"extra" insurance is always a scam. (i'm talking for Europe). First you pay about 25%+ insurance fees and in case something happens you will pay "own risk/excess" and documentation costs. In many cases you'll pay within a year the full amount you need for replacing when something happens.
Never get extra insurance for something you can afford to buy a new one. Much cheaper in the long run!
What about a place like SquareTrade? They seem to offer good warranty for decent pricing

It should be. Check with your agent to be sure. Also check what your deductible is.
At least with my insurance, if I'd drop it and the screen would break, it would be covered. Some extended warranties will not cover, um, "user error" like that. In general extended warranties are a scam and a MASSIVE money maker for places like Best Buy.

Square Trade's warranty's are awesome. My wife dropped her iPad 2 on a tile floor and shattered the screen. Square trade sent a padded box by next day air and paid for next day air shipping both ways. We got the box, they got it next day, it was repaired and returned on the same day the got it. We received a repaired iPad 2 in 3 days and it didn't cost us a dime extra.

Sprint TEP insurance vs Geek Squad vs Squaretrade

I'm trying to figure out where to purchase my S4 for Sprint (Best Buy or Sprint). Insurance is my main concern, since sprint increased the monthly to $11 and deductible is possibly going to be $200 for incidentals. I say $200 because that's what the Note2 is currently.
Some of the things i noticed about Squaretrade and Geek Squad is they don't cover loss of phone, but do cover other incidentals. I'm not too worried about loss, more for crack screens.
Which insurance are you guys thinking of? I'm leaning towards GS or Squaretrade since the sprint TEP doesnt seem worth it with the high deductible.

With a low $0 deductible and premiums starting as little as under $4 a month, this policy accommodates every budget. We cover NEW, USED and REFURBISHED devices.

So Passport 2.0 has a deductable on repairs?

"PREMIUM PROTECTION:

There's always a deductable. They can't have people just running around smashing their screens. There's labor involved fixing them.

They should make it more known though. HTC's Uh Oh! Protection replaces your phone if you crack the screen one time. I understand your point but most people do not know this nor do they let you know it easily.
I believe it's $75 for the deductible. It ain't cheap, but it's cheaper than a separate "oops" warranty. I suppose you could run it over with your car (accidentally, of course) in month 23 and get a "new" phone out of it. Not too bad for a deductible and no monthly or initial payment(s).

Not a new phone, refurbished one.
And I think they do it only twice.
I called them before I ordered mine and here is what I was told by a very friendly young man. It's $79 deductible and they pay for the shipping there and back! Anything but loosing the phone they will fix or replace it. Also even if fixed or refurbished it is the original manufacturer that does it so I am ok with it.
I am paying something like $12.99 for Tmobile Assurance protection. Last week I dropped my unbreakable POS LG V10 which I hated anyways and the thig never turned on again. Small ding on the side and tiny crack yet it was dead. So I owe $400 still and had to pay Assurance $175 deductible for which I received a beat up LG V10 that looks abused as hell.
So I decided no more! I am selling it and getting the ZTE then I will cancel my Tmobile insurance and in 2 years the ZTE will cost me about $100.
I just have to not lose it lol.
