hi I'm in Canada with a WiFi note 8010. I've been waiting what feels like forever for this jb update and not sure if there's a better way to update? is there some other way to update? or should I just wait?
also I haven't rooted with the exnyos root, should I do that before or after?

I updated to the german firmware using the odin method described in another thread and it worked great, didnt trip the counter or change the device status. Data and apps were intact. all and all I dont see any reason to not do it.
if you want the canadian release then you can simply install it over top the german one once it becomes available but I doubt that there will be much difference.
You might have to WIPE tho, since the German and Canadian ROMs have different CSCs.
Someone please confirm.

Using ROM's meant for other regions isn't an issue and a good way to get the lastest fixes and updated versions of s/w like S Note. The only reason folks in the U.S. had challenges was because they were using ROMs (N8010) not meant for their h/w (N8013). There's a N8010 4.1.2 ROM that just came out. You should be able to use it with no issues. When the Canadian JB ROM is released just install it (via Odin) over the German ROM and you'll be back to where you would have been anyway while being able to use JB in the mean time.
Here's the newest 4.1.2 N8010 JB ROM...
http://hotfile.com/dl/190513084/ece...GT-N8010-DBT-N8010XXUCMA5-1357980235.zip.html
Here's how to install it using Odin...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2048213
Another thing Canadian users should be aware before updating is that, there is NO Official 4.0.4 Stock ROM to fall back to. So if you ever need to send the unit back to the shop (before a Canadian ROM arrives online), you're SOL.
This is on top of whatever issues flashing a ROM with a different CSC might cause.
I have the German rom on my Canadian note as far as I can tell there are absolutely 0 issues with having a different CSC. Although it's true that there is no official 4.04 I'm not very convinced that would be a problem in the event of a return I doubt any of the retailers in Canada would know enough to even check what firmware you have installed.
I can confirm that you do not have to wipe data your system status remains official.
Frankly I'm not even sure that installing an official rom would void the warranty even if it is from another region assuming of course you are installing an 8010 ROM on an 8010 device

No. The only file that's being updated via Odin is the PDA/MD5 file which doesn't affect user settings, apps, or what's stored on the device. Occasionally you'll see a widget break or disappear off the home screen because it’s been superseded by one with newer functionality. That's the only casualty I've experienced in bouncing between ROMs from different regions. You'll also see regionally specific things pop-up. The Italian N8000 ROM had a pasta eating game pre-installed on it. Some things don't work because of regional exclusions like the EU Video Hub knows when it's being used on a non-EU device. Those you can just disable in Application Manager.

Is there any reason why vodafone and three have official 2.3.5 on kies but nothing for unbranded phones? Even the original SGS has it. I'm really beginning to regret getting this phone. Don't want to flash a Frankenstein package as would rather have a official release.

The most obvious question arises:
Why?
There's literally no reasonable or logical disadvantage to using one of the 'leaked' ROMs, since they are typically identical to the 'official release' ROMs in every way.
People seem to think that the official releases are magically enhanced somehow. In reality, the 'leaked' ROM simply becomes the 'official release' a few weeks later with no changes whatsoever made to it.
If the XEU ROM was leaked I would put it on my phone, except it hasn't been. As I said I dont want any Frankenstein ROMS. I just find it weird there isn't even a leak of the a XEU ROM yet Vodafone and Three have released theirs on Kies.

Yes I agree , the op is asking a question of why Kies has not released the rom for all phones. He is not asking about flashing. There are too many people that dont actually read.
My phone is unbranded and find this question interesting.
Waiting for official 2.3.5 on my xeu sgs2 as well. But im happy with the current 2.3.4 and not in a rush to get it
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
I find it very strange as well that there isn't an official 2.3.5 firmware for unbranded XEU phones particularly when the vodafone and three customised firmwares would have been derived from a generic one.
I guess what makes it bearable is that 2.3.4 works perfectly for me and 2.3.5 doesn't add anything new apart from the blue overscroll glow which I'll rather not have.

It's not that I didn't read or understand the question, just that the question itself is very strange given that there's no logical reason to 'regret' getting the device when we have access to everything the OP wants already. There's no difference between 'official' ROMs or leaked ones other than the waiting time involved. In fact, the chances of the 'Official' Kies flash screwing up your phone are probably greater than they are with Odin.
The OP isn't only stating that it's odd that the 'Official' ROM hasn't been released via Kies, which I'd agree that it is a bit odd, but that he's beginning to regret purchasing the device because of this. I don't deny that reality, but I do think it's a trivial reason to regret such a fine device, particularly given the regularity with which leaked ROMs appear for the GSII compared to other devices. That's all I'm saying.
Some people like to use the official route I.E. Kies or at least use the ROM specific to their location. Sadly some others just cannot accept this. I have given up asking about officially released through Kies roms a long time ago because inevitably there will be a post immediately suggesting flashing. If I wanted that info I would ask for it.
You may wish to plug your phone in tonight.
I just did this to be told that the 2.3.5 update is ready and waiting for download (which I will do tomorrow when I have charged my phone)

The point to this is that it's unprecedented and curious that branded phones will have firmware updates so far ahead of unbranded ones, however I agree it's a strange reason to regret buying the phone considering there's very little between both fw versions.

I too dont understand where 2.3.5 XEU is....
Ive seen quite a few 2.3.5 versions appear over past weeks, but no XEU.
I agree that it is very strange for some uk networks to release 2.3.5 via kies before we have a leaked version.
Maybe ICS is coming sooner than we thought, so no need for 2.3.5 ... Lol
XEU is usually one of the 1st leaks available, so it is strange.

The Kies servers can only handle so much at a time. UK (o2) and UK (T-Mobile) haven't even had the 2.3.4 upgrade yet. I think these users would be a bit miffed if we UK (unbranded) owners got yet another upgrade via Kies (2.3.5) before they even got the older 2.3.4 we have enjoyed for several weeks now.

Hello guys!
I bought my Galaxy Note in France (I work there).
The PDA/PHONE/CSC are XXKKA/XXKK5/XXKK5.
Build info is Friday 11 Nov...
How is it possible to receive official updates (stock roms) without flashing?
Please do not start telling me to read guides and so on... I worked on Android platform and after this experience I am aware how preparing roms and custom stuff is obviously a great challenge, gives you great satisfaction, but makes the phone be more prone to crashes, memory leaks and so on.
Thank you in advance.

I'm sure you were joking but this actually does raise a point that people should take into consideration:
If the phone is bought from the UK but the firmware is German, then it will get German upgrades. If it's bought from amazon.de and has Chinese firmware then it will only get Asian upgrades.
It doesn't matter where you buy the phone from, it matters what country the firmware is directed at. I also own a UK note which has BRI as the sales code and I don't have any update even though I live in Finland.

Hello everyone,
first time poster here, so please be gentle if I missed one of the rules here... I've searched through the threads here but am still somewhat confused.
I have an unlocked, unbranded international edition I9300 coming in the mail shortly. I intend to use it in the United States on the T-Mobile network. It turns out that T-Mobile has 3G coverage in the 1900 MHz band where I live.
Being a complete nub, I would prefer to not root the phone. However, I'm also wondering whether it is possible to install a version of official Jelly Bean on there once I get it through Kies? I've looked at the releases for Poland and Sweden, but they seem to all be branded versions for specific carriers. Would they work for me?
Thank you in advance!

Yes they will work on any i9300 model. However JB for your particular region should be out soon. So, you could just wait and update through KIES to avoid an hassle.
The Polish release is not branded. The Swedish is.
It just so happens I just came back from the states where I used my I9300 with my stock Polish DLIB rom on T-Mobile. Worked great.
Okay, thanks!
If the OS is branded, what differences does it have other than the splash screen at startup? Can these be installed without rooting?
Also - the North American variant is not the quad core i9300. Do you think they will still release an update through Kies to the U.S. for i9300?

The boot animation, some sounds probably, some carrier specific apps and/or games. In this case the telenor release is almost clean from what I read.
The apps you can disable without root, the boot animation you cannot.
If I were you I would go for the newest JB release and wouldn't worry about the branding or the CSC. If another newer release comes around you can just flash it over your existing rom using Odin without losing anything.
The NA versions will most likely receive JB as the Note2 which is about to hit retail in the US is already running it.
im waiting for the official uk update either that or a good working aosp rom

There will never be a specific US region update for the International GS3. The same was true for the International GS2. You'll have to download another country's ROM if you want to update. It doesn't matter. Just set it to U.S. English and that's it. I'm on AT&T and the ROM's CSC code doesn't matter either. I recommend the latest UK unbranded ROM build XXDLJ4. There are plenty of ROMs on this forum based on this build.
So what you're saying is that the upgrade OTA is determined by the current region of the rom? i.e. where I purchased the device?
I'm in San Francisco now but I bought my device in the Netherlands.
Can I just upgrade to the UK unbranded without a problem? What about US features like installing Google Wallet etc.
Thanks.
Dude just download the faryraab stock official and inside the package is Odin
Its so super easy. I have an American purchased 9300 that was originally a Brazilian firmware. Now I am always on uk btu mainly because its the latest and greatest.

It will work for yoy
Hello all,
I have the GT-N8013 (US Version), and decided I wanted to get Jelly Bean on it, since Samsung hasn't really said anything about an update for the USA.
I just flashed the German 4.1.1 ODIN last night as per this thread. I was under the impression this would not affect the binary counter or the firmware status. However, my binary count is now 2 (I've never flashed anything else), and the firmware status is Custom, rather than Samsung Official/Normal.
As such, I can no longer receive OTA updates for this device. I wanted to keep myself in a position where I could still get OTA updates one way or another.
I've seen things about changing the CSC, but I'm not sure I want to wipe the device, especially if I wouldn't be guaranteed to get OTA updates afterwards. (Or would it be guaranteed that OTAs would work if I changed the CSC to DBT...?)
What is the best course of action to get back to Samsung Official/Normal status (USA or German), or can it even be done?
(If I can't get back to Samsung Official, is there somewhere to download GT-N8010 German update.zip files, rather than the 1GB ODIN files?)
Thanks in advance for any help!
You'll need to root and then use TriangleAway to reset your counter. Then you can unroot and reflash official 4.1.1 from sammobile.com or just keep your root. Either way, you have to root to reset your counter. I recommend ExynosAbuse. As for OTA updates, you'll have to unroot and flash back to stock for that. To accomplish this, I recommend bypassing ODIN and using MobileODIN to flash, just in case the 8010 firmware is what tripped your counter to begin with... you know, cause you put it on an 8013.

Hello all,
I just flashed the German 4.1.1 ODIN last night. I was under the impression this would not affect the binary counter or the firmware status. However, my binary count is now 2

Strange - Mine didn't do that for 4.11 or 4.1.2. It only changed when I rooted it. How are you checking that the Binary count is 2?

The firmware status is Custom, rather than Samsung Official/Normal.
As such, I can no longer receive OTA updates for this device. I wanted to keep myself in a position where I could still get OTA updates one way or another.

This will be because there is a mismatch between the devices CSC and the Firmware that is installed. You WILL lose all data if you wipe the device (Yes I've done it - No ROMS for UAE either)

What is the best course of action to get back to Samsung Official/Normal status (USA or German), or can it even be done?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Personally I'd wait a few days. JB is rolling out now, and I don't really believe that the US (8013) version will be that long behind the others. So if you can wait, then just download the 8013 JB ROM when it arrives, flash it with Odin and you will be back to official. I would tend to ignore the Binary count for now (see question above) and then fix it when you get the 8013 JB and your ready to go "Official"
Thanks for the replies!

I'm just looking at the information at the top left of the screen when the device is in download mode.
Thanks for pointing me to ExynosAbuse. That will definitely make life easier when I go to reset the binary counter!
I'll probably just wait to flash an 8013 JB ROM once one is available. The 8010 firmware doesn't have 5GHz WiFi support, which I use frequently.
Thanks for the advice!

That's funny. My 8013 on 8010 firmware works perfectly on 5 GHz wireless n.

Same thing happened to me. My counter is up to 2 now, one for the German ICS and one for the German JB.
My hypothesis is that you can swap ROMS within the same model - so any 8010 ROM works fine on any 8010 without upping the count, but that going between models (8010 -> 8013) trips the counter.
However, as far as I can tell, everything works fine except the ability to update OTA and it might even be better since you're getting the version that's not been modified for the US market to get past the legal issues with Apple.
The only iffy part is that you're going to be stuck relying on XDA for updates.. but to be honest, the gang here has been pretty reliable in that area for years.

I also installed the 8010 JB and now wi-fi direct between my GS3 and the Note doesn't work anymore.
I'm not rooted, will having the flash counter at 2, if I have an official rom flashed (and it says official in download mode), prevent me from getting an OTA?

WiFi issue are VERY common when flashing roms from different regions. Every country has different frequencies & bands that can be used publicly & in the UK & Germany, they differ from here in the US. If you change your CSC files in system to identify as an en_US device, or more precisely, change the line in the wifi config file from ccode=gb to ccode=ALL , you will then get 5Ghz. I have no issues with AllShare or WiFi direct, but I changed the wifi config files & edited the csc files to show XAR region with all wifi channels open (ccode=ALL).
BTW, there was an 4.1.1 region XAR leak recently, a few days ago I think. I am also pretty sure someone, maybe Darkman, released a deodexed version of it. There are also dumps of it in the Dev section of the Note 10.1 forums.
