From what I understand from reading a few articles about this is that the 2014 date is for manufacturers to ship it pre-installed on the phone, whereas it is released next month for the Galaxy Nexus whether it be the source code or a prebuilt image, but as it uses the android kernel and drivers so I wouldn't be surprised to see unofficial ports in the next few months for many of the high end devices including the Note 2.

Why a fail? I'm interested in seeing it! And playing around with it! It looks pretty cool. I'm sure when Android first came out everyone thought the same thing, but look at how it flourished.

Sounds awesome to me. They are clearly struggling to get OEMs on board, so I think releasing images to let the modding community have a play is a great way to build momentum and gain feedback.
It's how MIUI got started, and I hope it works for Ubuntu.
With a phone as powerful as the Note 2, it's a shame it can't run anything more than android for docking & use with monitor/keyboard/mouse.

Looks very nice! I have been following there progress for sometime...They really need to get this O/S on board with OEM's in 2013, but like said I am sure we will see ports soon, hopefully for the N2!

There is never going to be an official port.
Yeah there is xda for unofficial ones.
I was wondering how come no one got this idea before.

Android 4.2 Key Lime Pie Information

Hello,
Seems like Google's busy again huh?
Notable new features:
-Google Now enhanced
-Google Play enhanced
-Stock Video Player updated
-Project Road Runner to increase your battery life 3 folds
-and more!
Hopefully these improvements do not require any help from Samsung? Gawd if a new hwcomposer is needed etc then we will be out of luck since Samsung probably will ditch us after 4.1...
Let's hear your thoughts.

Sounds interesting. I can understand Project Roadrunner being legit. Android 4.1 is as smooth as a baby's arse, so improving the battery is understandable. If everything else is true, KLP is going to be amazing.

This is the I9100 forum, spam somewhere else.
I find it hard to believe that road runner will be implemented to every device that gets the update. Nexus devices most certainly (they get everything) but I think the development to bring that to every device that's able to receive KLP will be too great and time consuming.

It is very possible it could be ported but if it is and there's no official release from Samsung for the i9100 its going to be very hard for the devs to pull apart the sources from another device, (say the i9300) and try to merge it together for ours. Most likely miss alot of key features. Like with JB devs cannot manage to get butter working, and their only hope is when JB is officially released, but even then there's rumours going around that the s3 won't even have a properly working project butter.

Precisely my point. If the LG is the only Nexus device released this time round (rumors point to 4 other devices by other brands), I can see XDAers gobbling up the LG Optimus Nexus.
The choice is much easier this time around, unlike the Galaxy Nexus which wasn't that much better spec wise than its contemporaries.

There's rumors of it as well, but personally at this current point in time I feel that the rumors for the LG Optimus Nexus are more "concrete",if that's the word for it.
Androidauthority has a write up on it:
http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-nexus-2-plus-gt-i9260-here-what-we-know-118932/
The specs don't look encouraging. It seems to be only a slight upgrade over the old i9250, and is packing a dual-core A9 CPU.
Now, I realize that not everyone goes for specs, but I'm a specs guy and the Optimus Nexus is the most exciting phone for me in quite a while. :fingers-crossed:

AFAIK, nobody knows how exactly it's supposed to work right? Maybe it's a rework of the software internals? If I have to guess, maybe it's a radical rewrite of the Dalvik VM to make it much more efficient, or aggressive optimization of Android OS itself.
There will be multiple nexus phones. Don't you guys read the latest news? The nexus program will see huge changes.

Galaxy S2 Getting Jelly Bean Next month!

"The Samsung Galaxy S2, the Galxy Note and the Galaxy Note 10.1 are the devices that we expect to run Android 4.1 at some point in the immediate, or not-so-immediate, future. In case you happen to own any of these three devices, you’ll be happy to hear that Samsung Sweden has confirmed that all of them will get Jelly Bean in the coming months.
The Galaxy S2 will be updated to Jelly Bean at some point in November, while the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy Note 10.1 will be upgraded in Q4 2012. Considering that we’re already in the fourth quarter of the year, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the Galaxy S2 receive the update at some point next month, with the phablet and tablet to receive it after the handset.
According to Samsung Sweden, the Jelly Bean updates will be available over-the-air or via KIES, but we’ll cross those bridges once we get there. Needless to say that while Samsung may be ready to start releasing the updates, it’s still up to the carriers to issue them."
(Yes, I know there are many JB ROMs out there, but I am unsure if the Project Butter Source code is out for our GS2s)

Excellent news, will give our devs some much needed code to play with :cyclops:
Only thing I'm a bit affraid is availablity of leaked test builds for now. I remember S3 had first builds a month before official release But good info anyway.
Plus goes for saying us atleast we are able to carry JB and now even Exynos sources so CM will move on!
I'm new to Samsung. How do we get/search for leaks?
On the atrix we hacked Motorola's servers to check for updates/test builds (called cheesecaking)

Great news, im having trouble with my MHL HDMI cable working smoothly on jellybam, maybe there something in the code that can fix this.
I waited for months for the official Samsung ICS update only to find nothing much had changed in their ROM. Since then I have been on custom ROMs getting the true Android experience as Google intended it to be. Would definitely encourage people to root and flash custom ROMs (as long as they follow instructions and make backups). It's the way forward!

Ubuntu for Phones

Ubuntu for phones has just been announced today for mobile devices.
Ubuntu for phones website
Ubuntu for phones keynote presentation (Skip to 6:30 for the Mobile OS)
What does that mean for us? Ubuntu for phones supports the full range of ARM processors and also fully supports Android device drivers. Which means Ubuntu for phones should be easy to install on a multitude of android devices including the DINC2.
What does this mean for Devs? You can code in native C and C++ and there is no Dalvik VM to limit what you can and can't do.
We'll be getting a glimpse soon, as the Ubuntu OS will be made available for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus in the coming weeks.
That looks so sweet

Maybe after MWC which is the 25th of this month... Check out www.ubuntu.com is where I see that.
I would love to see this on our Tab, but considering the low-end requirements...
I don't mean to be a buzzkill, but this will probably never see the light of day on our tabs. We do have a Desktop Ubuntu ARM port, and a fully working Linux kernel for other OSes but even with everything in front of us, I doubt it will happen.
I think the only way we could get it is if someone takes the source code and probably do some crazy mods to it to get it to it to make it work for our tabs.
I am quite the optimist so here's to hoping!
They will publish a porting guide in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Porting, so there is a lot of hope!

Not professional.
In gingerbread there was Music player.

NOT big issues but finishing touch and overall quality is poor.
I would like to see feature updates available as a paid premium from the Samsung Apps store.
We have gotten our money's worth. Granted the Note N7000 should get 4.2.2 before the final chop on support, but beyond that, updating touchwiz, s-pen features and other Samsung exclusives could be easily done with a paid app update.
Remember how with Windows mobile 4 phones had a paid upgrade to 5? Maybe nothing so extreme as to be charged for an upgrade within the first two years of its release, but afterwards, to keep the phone fresh and new, I would gladly part with my hard earned cash.

Alot of the note 2 features are inside our roms just not activated. In secsettings/res/xml/ there are files such as quickglance2013.xml and maybe they are planning on activating these at some point.
Hopefully

So these features will never come to Note 1 officially - they are just leftovers...
