Dude u can use Gsam Battery application to monitor the temp of ur device
PS. its available free in Google Play

The app "OS Monitor " has an option to turn on notification bar monitoring which shows CPU load and current battery temp.
Notification bar is accessible when using full screen apps too, so it's very good for you guys which wanna monitor temp etc in real time instead of exiting app and quickly check temp in another app.

I would suggest that we also report our surrounding room temperature as well seeing as that would affect the resting temperature of the phone.
Anyway,
Normal - 30-40
Heavy - ~45
Charging while doing nothing - 40
Max - 50 (heavy use during charging)
Room temperature - 30
The temperatures are all lower than my old galaxy s' though so I'm not too concerned.

In cpu/gpu terms i wouldnt be too concerned about temps under 80degrees offcourse when it gets that hot you will not be able to hold your phone too long

Around 50/60 degrees when stressing the phone is considered as normal, above that It would be feeling hot but not damagefull for cpu/gpu or other components. I repaired phones in the past at 150degrees in the oven and everything still worked fine ^^

Offcourse the environement counts, some people have 50 degrees other people on the northpole have 40 if you know what I mean btw the quad core cpus are running much colder then the dualcores. That reminds me at my s2 that was burning my hands off

One suggestion to keep things cool is dont play heavy games while charging, Let the phone charge while your asleep, and use it when your not.
This way you wont have to face heat issues(well at least temp wont get very high)
ive had my phone for few days, it gets hotter than any smartphone ive used before, even under heavy browsing while not charging.
I'm planning to get a case and concerned that the phone will fry itself while inside the case..
btw what program are you using in the screenshot to read non-bull temperature values ?
What is the program you are using please?
normal regular use - 35 celc
gaming/heavy use - max i have got is 45 celc
charging without use - 41 celc
charging with use - about 45 again.
id say mine isnt too bad.. i have a case on as well. without the case its about 2 degrees less on average.
program?
The first screen is SystemPanel App - Task Manager and the second is a custom widget from the Elixir app
so... no one with a higher temp? :-D
p.s. no case on mine

Mine got to 51 degrees tops. I don`t play while charging. Temperature taken with Android assistent. Leather case on the phone.

Well i would assume that playing a game for 2 hours solid would definitely make the phone hot, given the phone is so thin it feels hotter than say a phone like the HTC HD2.
I play some games but not excessively, i played Brothers in Arms 2 and Lets Golf today about 20 mins each game and the phone didn't feel particulary hot afterwards,in fact since ive had it (around 2 weeks) it hasn't felt particulay hot.
Overheating? Drag racing? Don't drive so fast
Seriously tho, I was under the impression the phone is meant to run quite hot? Not sure exactly how high it goes before shutting down tho...

Which android software you are using? I think its ICS problem. Same problem with my Sony Xperia S.
It was getting hot while playing games. My android tablet on ICS have the same problem but I play same game on
Samsung galaxy S 1 it was GB. It never got hot. 7 to 8 hours. It was never hot. You should use GB for games. Its my
Personal analysis. Hope its true.
its hot man ..... i got i got from a guy on the street and the cops are still looking for it ... i think it's super hot
now moving to on topic :
- the phone heats up a lot , not just the back even the screen . I noticed that it really depends on the game i play. for example if i play "granny smith" or anything similar the heat is ok . If i fire up Batman or other similar games that use grapghics a lot then i have to leave it a few minutes before i can make a call .. cos it feels really hot
i had this problem from the first day . But , i guess it is no problem that it heats up . Other phones do not heat .. it's true but such hardware it's expected to heat up this much
Try KH3 modem. It made my overheating problems go away!

Try flash a rom and then you can boil an egg with it...
This happens to me too. Especially on cm10 so the cpu is doing a lot of the graphical rendering thanks to no butter at the moment. Hottest mine got to is 48° after playing World of Goo for an hour. Other than that I've only noticed increased temperatures wge, I go a bit flash mad and flash different things one after another.

I find it's a kernel issue...
when I have a good kernel that works well with the rom I'm running - then it doesn't heat up too much... occasionally it'll get warmish
Use your cheeks (on your face :meh: to test) -=or=- weird as it sounds your lips!! Don't use the back of your fingers, it'll feel warm no matter what!!
I've come close a couple of times to core melt down & had to pull the battery to remedy the situation...
A lot of things can cause this:
- Heavy games
- Bad mobile signal
- Heavy usage of browser
- Charging
Nothing to do with GB or ICS, the problem was the same with both.
Yes, it's the hottest phone I had in many ways.
Didn't you asked for that?
Didn't fry yet... and I doubt it will but it's sometimes uncomfortable.

What's the longest screen-on time you've ever had?

Sometimes the problem with a big screen is that it can use up a lot of juice.
Even before I bought my Note I had heard of the rumours about really bad battery drainage that came with ics.
Well today, a Sunday (in Australia at least), rather than studying hard for my Maths test tomorrow I was on my phablet, watching youtube (a friend showed me this really awesome channel recently) videos, surfing the web and xda, whatever; pretty much the phone was hardly on idle/standby at all.
Except for when I had lunch in the middle.
Anyway, it was the best battery life I have ever had.

In fact the battery life was so incredibly good, I thought I was using one of my two Anker 2700mAh batteries and it wasn't until I took off the battery cover to change the battery did I realise that I was actually using a stock Samsung 2500mAh battery.
Typically, when I'm at school and the phone is just idle in my pocket all day, I get around 3 hours screen on time with the stock battery, and 4 hours with the Anker batteries.
So this 5 and a half hours with little idle time is absolutely mind blowing for me (hence why i felt the need to post about it on xda).
Without needing to charge it, what is the longest screen-on time you've had with your 5.3 inch beast?
4.5~5 hours, stock gb, with some crap freezed (unasomething, samsung push, and some other) and k2-12 speedmod kernel on lb1(regional/device dependant) modem. Just browsing and tapatalk on dark theme.
But, this should be in q&a section

I'm running imilka's incredible PA v0.5 rom using the latest cm9 stable kernel.
about 5.
ics with cf-root.
rom was xme latest gb, but had simmilar results on latest dbt,and open europe latest gb rom
edit I posted not for discussion, but for means to replicate, should someone want to
ps, result only thought ultra clean install with fresh install of everything, no restore of backups and such
ps2 learned hardway, make efs backup and safe across multiple locations so you have way back, as flashing different csc roms can damage efs easily and before you know it no service. Hacking your way back is costly, so backup efs and dont make same mistake as me.

5h10min of screen on time, using Rocket Rom with speedmod kernel, 40% brightness, power saving mode, no games, black/white/grey icons and wallpaper :good:

I don't think so.
Well I've never gotten anything.
On stock ics 4.0.4 using a stock battery, min brightness, mobile network 3g
currently 4hrs 14 mins with 48% battery left
total time on battery is 7hrs 55mins 47 secs
10 hrs while reading e-book on aldiko
with grey text on black background
7% juice left
3g and phone on
Flight from Atlanta to Orange county Ca. 3.7 hours. Plenty left. I never use the device screen on for hours on end unless couped up in a plane.

[Q] Charger got wet

Hello, My original LG wall adapter got wet, i wiped away all the water i could, and let it dry out for day.
After that I plugged my N4 into it, and my battery just jumped from 70% to 100% in a blink. I unplugged it imminently, and phone thought it was still charging for like 10 seconds, and then my battery percentage went back to 70%.
It's been a few days since this event. I'm worrying about whatever damage it might have caused.
Battery life isn't great. i get about 1.5 SOT when I hit 40%. standby time are as the used to be, but when using the phone the battery seems to drain more. (WIFI OFF WHEN NOT AT HOME ,ALL GOOGLE LOCATION SERVICES DISABLED, ON 3G 24/7)
Is there any real test to see if there is really any damage ?
I hope I'm just imagining. Maybe the charger didn't went bad at all? after all is it a known bug when nexus jumps to 100%.
The wet adapter charged my Other galaxy S2 just fine..
Here is some ridiculous screen.barely 10 minutes screen on an a short phone call and its already down 5%

5% down, in 1 hr and 15 minutes, with 10~ minutes of screen on time, and some phone calls is not really that bad imho.
You should probably get a new charger, seems like something is messed up within the charger, due to being exposed to water.
Is there any way to determine if the phone itself received damage ? I's there any chance at all ?
Only the plastic of the charger was exposed to water ..
anyway I'm using apple Iphone adapter since then.
I think the best way to tell if it received any damage is to just use it normally.
Charge it normally, through the iphone adapter for now, and see if the problem re-occurs.
I do notice battery drains quicker , My friend's nexus, which was from an older batch, drained 2% after 10 mins in google chrome, auto brightness.
mine drains 8% , same brightness, no application running in background. betterbatterystats shows nothing unusual.
Is this normal? Totally Moderate use.

Then how comes the Note 4 is so much warmer (noticable) than the Note 3 , where I never really felt any heat, no matter what I did. Just feels weird.

I'd suggest it's placebo. Honestly, 30-40degrees is totally normal. I had all the major flagships last year and apart from the G3 which was a heat and thermal throttling machine, they all averaged around 35-45 at idle. The Note 4 on my CPU temp testing is fine. I'm currently downloading and updating a lot of apps so it's a little warmer and it's sitting at 46. Spot on temperature for what it's doing.

Just to be sure: Without taking screenshots, under Analysis mode on 6 cores when you try to move pieces, there is no lag at all? If so, that is awesome.
(I observe significant lag on my note 3 in such case..)

I didnt notice a big enough delay to call it lag more like the cpu thinking while it performs over 1000 other moves a second in the background its less than half a second on mine

Seeing a peak around 1045. Interesting benchmark.

I actually meant does it "playable" or responsive enough to move pieces when it under analysis mode...

You couldnt play a proper game that would get frustrating but itwas showing a response within half a second

This was after 1 minute. Didn't feel any lag when playing with the analysis mode on and 6 cores.
Out of my own curiosity i tried this on my note 1 and no matter how many threads i use it is rendered catatonic and about 4 secs later it reboots

Since it seems like this is a heavy test I assume it gets hot and throttles a bit like any phone. But overall I noticed the G4 doesn't get burning hot, even when playing high end games at 100% brightness.
According to ampere after 30mins real racing 3 my battery is about 48c but the phone doesnt feel hot maybe call it fairly warm
