Hello everyone. I made a video earlier today to demonstrate the general functionality of ICS on the Note. This is Chainfire's repackaged Chinese leak (ZCLP1). CLICK HERE for the original thread. I have made some customizations for smoother operation. I thought it was going to be a 'short' video but turned out to be 40 minutes long. I have divided them in 3 parts. Feel free to check them out if your having doubts about installing the leaked ROM.
Edit. A fair warning, the videos are amateur at best.

An interesting watch, thanks for this.

No, I don't think I have any banding issues at all. I have attached an image posted by someone else here. It's a great way to find out if you have banding issues. You can try it with varying brightness and you'll definitely notice the issue if you have it. Btw, there is always going to be banding if you use anything that is black/grey on the LOCK SCREEN. This is not a display issue. I think the lock screen has a greyish transparency overlay that causes the banding. Other than that, it's pretty smooth sailing.

Thank yu so much for that imformative set of videos.
Does Samsung include Swype keyboard as an option with ICS as I did not see it listed in your video?
Also, have you had a chance to play with voice control at all? I wounder if Samsung\VLingo is going to be a part of ICS build for GNote and maybe they have made some much needed improvements to voice control on the GNote.
I have had a lot of inconsistency with Voice control over bluetooth with the current setup.
Again thanks for your work.

Samsung does not include swype with this build. However, you can always download it from the market. And thanks for mentioning voice controls, Claude! I tried it and works like a dream. And I have a little guide HERE if you would care to take a look. It has step-by-step instructions for getting the exact same thing you saw on the video on to your Note. Have fun flashing, Claude!
Thanks Acidburn89,
I will likely use your guide and go for it over the w/end. I have recently upgraded my rooted GNote to substancer's XLA6 Deoxed and zipaligned tweaked ROM here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416192
with Vertumus' ICS Domination v1.1 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1467985
and am playing with that combo for the moment, Rooted and all.
I hope I am not out of line or not being PC here (If so, let me know and I will change this reply) in giving links to other efforts on XDA.
Regarding voice control;
Is it very different in ICS than in GB?
Is it still Samsung Powered by VLingo?
I use Plantronics Voyager Pro+ BT headset and have come to resign myself that Voice Control via BT is not reliable at all, totally inconsistant in it's behavior for me. I push the BT button and sometimes VLingo responds that it is ready (after telling me the number of calls I miseed, etc. and sometimes it just tell me what I missed and then stops dead in it's tracks. I have to push the button again and start over. I could go on about this but I would be hijacking this thread. I hope that Voice Control prooved to be clearly better and decernably improved in ICS.
Thanks again for your info and efforts in helping the rest of us get a leg up on ICS.

In a community driven development forum, I don't think there is much politics to begin with. The voice control is not the vLingo one. I think this is the ICS
version of google voice. But it functions exceptionally well. Has a very siri-ish feel to it. I will try and post a video sometime soon.
Btw, I use a Sony Ericsson MW600 bluetooth stereo headset and it works perfectly fine.
Edit. I think it is called Google voice search and voice actions and not Google Voice. It does offer personalized voice recognition, so i am guessing it will only get better with more usage.
Thanks for the video!
I don't know why, but honestly, I felt kind of sleepy watching the video. hehe. Maybe you should be more active, or have a drink (alcohol) to cheer up while recording the review.
I had been using super smooth home screen navigation and convenient features of ICS on Nexus S, but recently upgraded to Galaxy Note. The Note's stock interface is sometimes kind of laggy though. I really hope Samsung releases ICS soon, but I'm also kind of worried they might be delayed just like all the other Android devices. Nexus S (AT&T version) still didn't even get an official ICS update.
Nice videos.. very informative mate... only watched part 1.. part 2 & 3 later....
Can you tell me which case are u using on the note?

Maybe I'm missing something but I've been reading change logs for Android 2.1 vs 1.6 and I don't really see what the big deal is.
Aside from someone posting that the battery life was a "zillion times better" I don't see anything that is going to improve my phone. Most of what's offered in 2.1 I've already gotten via 3rd party apps for 1.6.
Glad to hear about the "zillion times better" though, throwing out all of my chargers now Assuming most of us would place the fictitious "zillion" somewhere near a trilllion that would mean the battery should last 2.73790926 × 10^9 years. I'll probably change phones before charging again.
Seriously though, what does 2.1 really bring that the market apps don't?
more apps are supporting 2.0/2.1 and above only

Twitter sucks
Anyways, for me, the main thing would be more apps would be compatible with the phone! I've been dieing to try LauncherPro!
Another thing that was promised with the update was 720p Recording, and Live Wallpapers (which is also something else that i am excited for)!
Plus
- Full range of colors: 1.6 only has 65000 colors (16-bit), you can see the banding very visible in pictures and movies. With 2.1 we get full 16 million colors.
- Improved BT stack: with 2.1 we will be able to see contact and song names in the displays of our bundled MW600 headsets
Hopefully they've also finally addressed the low in-call volume issue.

AS to the colors I'm not really that excited but I don't really use the X10 for video. If you're a mobile video watcher then I can see why the video enhancement would be something to look forward to.
BT stack improvements would be welcomed but until I can BT voice dial I still won't be thrilled.
Funny thing about that in-call volume. When I use Google Voice the in-call volume is much much better ... no idea why.

BTW you know what's better than Twitter? Google Buzz.
That way, I can not only be inundated by useless thoughts I can also know exactly where they had the useless thought ... sweet.
So far:
Improved colors = useful for some to be sure.
720p video recording = I may use it from time to time.
Newer apps = Depends on what they do but I'm pretty happy with my 100 apps.
Improved BT stack = Yup but still want BT voice dial.
Better battery = Hard to really say unless someone with an X10 is running 2.1
Speed = Pretty fast already.
Twitter = No thanks.
Facebook = No thanks.
Social networking in general = No thanks (I actual reality network
My point wasn't to insult those waiting for 2.1 it was an honest question, "Am I missing something?". The improvements listed, for me, won't get me to upgrade.

Are you really sure there is going to be a great battery improvement? Until 2.1 is running on the X10 you won't know for certain.
I do know that my extended battery has reallly worked out for me. I use the phone for all it's worth (except twitter) and I can go 14 hours and still have 60% remaining.

The other thread has made me increasingly mental trying to find some decent information on what is working and what isn't working for SGS users upgrading to 2.3.2. I upgraded on Sunday evening without any issues and have been using it for the past 48hrs and have come across the following:
bad:
- no sip configuration options
- when integrated with MS exchange server, the unread count for emails never changes even after you read the mail
- default internet browser is horrifically slow, even with no other apps running in the background
- no samsung apps available (probably because this isn't an official samsung release)
good:
- android market works fine for me in Switzerland
- GPS works well with all the different apps i have
- wifi is interesting. it works, but i don't get full signal strength notification even when next to the access point
- FM radio, the most used app i have continues to work nicely
Overall I have been pleasantly surprised with this version. It's nice, although it's not an official release and is still leagues better than 2.1.x and 2.2. Would get a good argument from me about how it compares with 2.2.1..

Well, for me, I am not downloading torrents on my phone. When I want to download, via wifi, apps from the market or something with dropbox, the wifi isn't not letting me down. I think there's a disconnect between what the graphic is reporting and the actual level.
It's good because it still works and is functional and allows me to keep using this on a daily basis despite its status.

Thats a good idea.. Not only might it help Samsung, but it will discourage people from running it (and later whinging).
i got it running for a few hours and i generally enjoyed it, but the keyboard has no bulgarian (well it have in the options but it does not work) and if you run out of ram you are screwed (the phone hangs or gets tooo slow ).
as said samsung apps doesn`t work and the gallery freezes very often...
i hate that samsung removed the fancy animations and the black menu bar....

1-3D performance
It's not as good as it was on 2.2.1. If you test some 3D games like NFS Shift, you culd see that it doesnt run so well as it did on 2.2.1
Some people even reports that they can’t even run lot of 3D games.
2-GPS
There are reports of a good gps performance, but I have read somewhere that it's contanstly throwing some kind of errors or bugs, I don't know how to check that. I guess they know it thanks to logcat or something like that.
According to what I could read on another forum they changed lot of gps files nad not is very similar to the ones of Nexus S, that's a good thing...
3-Keyboard
It’s also a shame that they didn’t include gingerboard keyboard…
PS: Some people might think that this thread isn’t useful, but as we are being kind of betatesters for Samsung it would be nice if we use this post only to report the most common bugs founds, so maybe Samsung could have a look at it and solve it faster.

Same here, it was so slow till i had to restart my i9000.
I've been using it for the last two days now (one of them with Supercurio's Voodoo Hack) and I've been happy with it in some parts, but quite unhappy in others.
Lag:
First of all, it seems the "Lag" that was fixed in 2.2.1 is back. Especially with memory-Hungry applications like the Browser, the phone tends to just freeze up for a few minutes without really doing much. I even had to pull the battery one time. This does happen less with the voodoo-fix, but it's still noticeable. Flash also does barely work.
Gingerbread features:
The new Gyroscope-Driver seems to work and it works really well. Skymap and Starchart both looked a LOT better when using them, no fidgeting around all the time anymore.
The new Gingerbread animations are NOT present in this rom. It seems like Samsung thinks they don't fit into TouchWiz, which is a shame. So no glowing edges when overscrolling and no screen-off or screen-on animation.
3D Performance pretty much seems to be the same as on 2.2.1 Games load a little slower, but I think that's mostly because we're using an un-optimized kernel.
The Bluetooth-Driver unfortunately still is the same as in Previous versions. So Neither Wiiremote nor PS3 will pair with the SGS, unlike on Cyanogenmod.
Samsung-Stuff:
As was stated before, Swype does not work. However, I am in the Swype beta and was able to install the Beta of Swype into this rom after deleting the normal swype with root explorer. It works fine, even Voice input does work.
All in all, it is clear that this is beta-firmware and it doesn't really offer much in terms of improvement over 2.2.1, at least not yet. Cyanogenmod 7, even tho it supports less hardware and is more unstable, runs a LOT faster and smoother than this, is more customizable and uses more of the new Gingerbread features.
For now, I'll be going back to 2.2.1, it's more useful as a daily driver, but this at least looks promising so far.
Reverting back to 2.2.1. 2.3.2 is way too slow.
Well considering this is a beta it seems alot of the features that are suppose to be in the final build are here left out. That will give the reason for quite some things missing ( some animations, effects, lock screens, keyboards....) Plus also cause of the beta build maybe even alpha who knows, the performance for me is really bad, it feels twice as laggy compared to the 2.2.1 releases. All in all this build is an striped down, not optimized build for the samsung devs i guess. We will have to wait for a better build leak. Cheers !

You didn't say anything about Samsung, you asked how to get it on our Galaxy S's. I have it on mine, so I figured you missed the obvious. =)
I also get a solid 14 hours with 4-5 hours of the screen being on running CM7; I have absolutely no issue playing videos using any of the many players I've tried; and it takes perfectly fine photos for me too, since I don't use my phone for actual photography--I use, y'know, my camera for that.
But hey, being a douche does wonders I hear. Keep it up. All the best to you. =)

I'm definitely interested. Right now, I am using Player Pro for this reason, but it doesn't work all the time.[my network data usage alert comes from my network operator, which requires one to select ok].
Would love to have this feature on stock Samsung ROM's ..
As an aside, was really interested in Galaxy Tuner's [Power + HHOOK key button remapping]. Would be really awesome, if you could look into and see if incorporating that is easier that the long press volume button fix , which OP is requesting.?
I was intrigued by the new Note II feature where it was demonstrated that you would be able to capture a video of you making markings using the S-Note while also having audio being captured.
My suspicion is that this feature (if ported to the note 10.1) will be limited to S-Note.
I have found other note making apps, namely Quill, to be lightyears ahead of S-Note in the design of their interface and in their taking advantage of the pressure sensitivity of the digitizer in this tablet. It would be completely ideal, for me, to be able to take video recordings of my note-taking using other such apps whilst having audio embedded. For example, it would be absolutely useful to have the ability to play back the process of taking notes in a lecture using Quill whilst having my teacher's voice embedded over the video.
What I would like to know is namely if anyone has tried out any apps such as "screencast" which allow such functionality? I have not rooted my device yet, so it is not possible for me to see if this app works well on this tablet. Otherwise, does anyone know of any apps besides screencast which serve the same purpose? And of course, speculation as to whether the new note II features (if ported) will allow screen/audio recording throughout the user interface is welcome in this thread.
Cheers,
And a note to the mods: While this post is posed in the form of a question, I feel it is more suited for general rather than Q&A because of the rather unspecific nature of the question and discussion it may promote with regard to a certainly sought after feature by many users.

To reemphasize, I am not so fond of S-Note as I am of other note taking apps, namely Quill, which is much more suited to the fast paced note-taking required for the course I am taking.

Bare in mind, it's a very early release.

Thanks for this.
Just got around to watching this video, and it has me excited. Seeing as he initiated screen recording from his home page, I'm under the assumption that this will work throughout the interface. I do hope this makes it to the final release. For anyone time-pressed, he demos this feature at 2:40 in the video.
Alright, well a few months has passed and I have now flashed a JellyBean 4.1.2 rom. and as is probably evident to most... the screen recording feature didn't make it into the final version of JellyBean despite showing up in some of the leaked versions.
At any rate, since I have rooted the tablet, I went ahead and installed Screencast Video Recorder. It has worked phenomenally in most cases; however, just lately here some of the videos I have made will not play and seem corrupted in various ways (I suspect this may be because of having EZ Task Manager installed recently on my device, but I won't have made a video with it uninstalled yet until tonight.. so we'll see if that fixes things).
I was wondering: of those of you who use this app on the SGN 10.1 and have gotten it to work well, what settings do you use both within the app and within the system settings? Any other tips, such as avoiding installing certain apps or anything else you might suggest, for getting this amazing app to run optimally?
Ill try answering asap

This is my review of the phone. it's my first one so don't expect fireworks!
Is there a notification led?
If you can give us some camera samples in low light it would be great. What do you think about the camera and what telephone did you have previously?
Thanks!

I had Note5 . Haven't tried the camera properly yet, but just took some pics in low\semi low light.
P.s
Let me know if the quality is enough. If not, give me a website I can upload full pictures.
Where did you get it from and is there any disadvantages from a normal US/international version?
Can you install Aida64 and post the codecs supported specifically the OMX.qcom.video.decoder Interested to see what hardware video codecs it supports. Hoping for h264, hevc, VC1, MPEG2 and more!
Thanks for sharing dude !
Is there capactive or on-screen button ?

I live in China. bought it in www.jd.com. Cost 4100 RMB(=622.69 usd).
I've installed Google services without root, so at the moment can't tell the difference between this and international ver.

Captive.
OMG, I'm sold! I see h263/h264/hevc/MPEG4/DivX311/DivX4/DivX/MPEG2/VP8/VP9 for video codecs and AC3/EAC/Flac for audio codecs. This is perfect for my video codecs!
Now just need a reliable source to buy this from.
I ordered one of these from spemall.com last week, I wish they would hurry up and ship it. I don't remember seeing the fairly small "presale" text almost hidden on the product page now when I made the purchase. I hope they aren't holding back international purchases of this Chinese version for their international launch.
Thank you for the quick reply !
Good to now that "normal" 6/128gb version has the capacitive buttons.
On the codec side, good to see hevc, i just hope that they did use up to date one from dc so it supports 10 bits^^
Im not an audiophile, unfortunately, but I do appreciate a good sound quality as I have Sennheiser Wireless, and v-moda m100 and constantly listening to Dubstep\hardstyle\rock etc. I listened for a few minutes without to much equalizing and it sounds very good. Later I will root and install viper4android and hopefully it will work on marshmallow. My note5 didn't :\
How far is MiFavor UI 4.0 from AOSP visually and functionally? OK, I know that there is no original Gapps. But what about other functionalities? Does the phone have dialer which is close to android (Google) dialer or totally customized one? Does it support voice recording? Google contacts, if installed? Native sip (internet) calling? Thank you.

I am hoping that they have used the AOSP recent apps list and drop down quick settings rather than the way that MIUI and EUI do them.
If you have a Type-C -> hdmi/power in/usb A, could you give a try to that ?
As in, can you output to a screen through HDMI while charging and using a keyboard.
Cheers

Hmm. The chinese UI is very customized, I wanted to barf when I saw it the first time. Also because this is high configuration, its made of gold color, hardware and software. The notifications tray is actually nice, and after I nova prime the **** out of the phone , it looks great!
There are alot of functions, can't list them all, better watch youtube. But theres forcetouch(works very poorly, need software update), floating icon that can go back, take screen shot etc. You can have duplicate apps (wechat, whatsapp etc), voice activation and much more, I like it so far. Also for a full day not one force close.
Yes it supports voice recording (in dialer and regular).
No google what so ever, you can install seperatly though.
Don't think theres internet calling.
