I'm sorry, I have to brag about this - Eee Pad Transformer General

I just struck gold.
So, I recently bought an as is transformer on ebay for about $150. I really wanted the parts from it to repair a TF. When I got it, the first thing I noticed was there was not a scratch on there. The thing looks like new. The serial was a b50. After I charged it, I decided to turn it on and saw that it went right into apx mode.
So, I nvflashed it. OMG, it works! It's working flawlessly. I even restarted it several times to make sure it wasn't in apx bootloop.
Apparently, someone bricked it, thought it was dead, and sold it for parts.
Just thought I'd share

lol congrats bro, thats always good

Nice find.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk

Damn you made out like a bandit.
So what are you going to do now? Salvage it for parts anyway, use it? Sell it? I'd sell it and get another tablet so I'd have two different tablets. I'd even put that money towards an iPad 2 or an iPad 3 just because I want to try an iPad.

Love those days..

Actually, the seller said he got it from someone else. So, this thing has gotten passed around to a few people before it got on ebay. Impossible to find the original owner, I guess.
And why in the world would this thread get a 1 star? Who the hell gave me the 1 star? It's not like I'm scamming anyone.

I know. This was just an extreme luck thing. We all here knows that apx mode looks like the thing is bricked. A tablet can go into apx mode automatically if there's something wrong with the bootup. Most people out there don't know what apx is. So, I'm assuming someone thought he couldn't turn this thing on and so went ahead and sold it to some shop which ended up putting this tab on ebay.

Great find!!!

So...... Ill start the bidding for it at $200.

Probably some one who's jealous or could be the the Ebay seller.

Thats fantastic luck! congrats to you!

My device has appeared to be bricked a few times, doesn't boot up, connect to PC and its not going into apx mode but tablet is still warm so something is running. had to wait for the battery to completely deplete before it would turn back on with screen working. Only happened with one certain custom ROM though.
Good thing I had patience to wait it out or I could have been that sucker to sell it on e-bay! Congrats.

That's awesome! I used to scour craigslist and ebay for "bricked" devices and 9/10 times they're repairable.
Maybe it was the seller that rated the thread 1 star? haha

it just amazes me that with ALL the info available on the tf1 that they couldn't figure that out. serves em right if ya ask me! congrats my man!

You are a lucky man! Did the person post a picture of the device? It would probably be safe to assume, that if a seller posts pictures of a pretty good looking tablet and selling it for parts, it's more than likely bricked. However, the chance of getting that lucky is probably slim

a pictures worth a thousand words .
phone fell off seat in movie theater, like 2 feet from ground..
was it naked?
I cried a little inside when I saw this picture..
without a case ? ya
sorry.
I hate how badly HTC tempers some of their phones [screen that is]
I remember when I got my first TP2, broke screen on first drop... I had a replacement,... That I still have... I treat it like trash! And lemme tell you this thing is sturdy. My Evo... Has been abused, dropped, fell straight on the curb of the sidewalk (right onto the raised part and onto the floor). Only visible thing is a tiny dot of glass that chipped off the lower bottom right.. This one is sturdy as hell too...
this was my first time dropping the phone, I only had it for about two weeks.
The screen is like scratch proof but not shatter proof, it should be the other way around at least (hopefully both). I tried using my keys to scratch out a hole in the glass so i could take it out and see if i could get a replacement glass but the keys wouldnt even scratch as hard as i tried
i died a little inside when i saw that picture. if that happened to my phone...i would probably cry
Dang that really sux. I was so scared when I dropped my Evo at work from a height of 30 ft and lucky for me I just had sum dirt in the kick stand but that was the day I added insurance on my bill. I'm sure if u have insurance they will give u a new screen as there was a time with my instinct I broke the screen 3 times in a month and Sprint fixed it no questions asked

@ the PIC why put a 500$ phone on a sent and EVEN take the chance of it falling ?
That sucks man . Well if you don't have insurance, they sell replacement touch screen digitizers on eBay. Not sure how easy it is to replace.
http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-Sprint-Evo-...862017?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item4152abc101
I have no affiliation to that seller, just looked up the cheapest one that wasn't out of the country.
Looks like some guys just put up a repair video too and it doesn't look too difficult, but I'd be scared to do it myself lol.
http://www.repairsuniverse.com/htc-evo-4g-glass-touch-screen-digtizer-lcd-repair-guide.html
Most sprint repair stores are stocking glass/screen replacements. Just go down there and get it fixed, generally they can do them in 15-20 minutes
actually im within the first 30 days, so im taking the phone back to a store and swapping it for a brand new one. which seems like a great deal to me.
if you are rooted you will probably have to unroot... but you already knew that
I just flashed back to the stock rom i found in the evo wiki, that should be good correct ?

You should be good with that. In my experience I've had no trouble taking rooted devices in to them. I always make sure at the very least it appears stock when they power it up.
I called them and they are the ones that suggested i just return it and get a new one since it's within thirty days. I called the store too, not sprint (sometimes they like to contradict each other).

You know I am almost thinking of preordering this thing. I have wanted a tablet for sometime and I have been looking at the Transformer as my first choice. This however looks like a great device for the price for what I would be using it for. Basically an e-reader, as I already read all my books on Kindle Software on my EVO, watching movies on the go either from HBO Go, Netflix or even Amazon's services and maybe some light web browsing and email.
So the question is, buy it now and have in in November and wait for the wonderful folks here to root the thing so I can run what I want on it OR wait until someone else gets them and puts out a review on it?
hmmmm..what to do what to do...
Do they charge your card if you pre-order? Or does it only charge when it ships out? I'd hate to have $200 something out from my credit card balance for over a month. It wont be out until November (mid).
I could have sworn I've seen Amazon preorders say "You won't be charged until this item ships" but that seems to be lacking for the Fire.
Can anyone that has preordered confirm if they've been charged?
Pre-ordered while in class . Can't wait for this thing to get into my hands. Praying that there won't be a locked bootloader. If not this thing has a shot of running a homebrew Ice Cream Sandwich!
Edit: I'll let you know if I get charged in an hour or two.
I pre-ordered this morning and have not been charged yet, so I'm assuming they will not charge until it ships.
I preordered as soon as it was up.figure worst case i give it as a gift. But im really intrested to see how a 7 inch tablet works out.
Current use ipad2 but been wanting something smaller.
I am getting one for the wife - just her speed I think...
I'll stick with my ASUS EP121 and ExoPC slates for me.
Amazon charges you when the item ships. So if you pre order, you have a couple months to decide what you really want to do.
I just went ahead and preordered one. I just read on AndroidTablet.com that Amazon acknowledged that this device will be easily rooted and that they won't stand in the way of it happening.
I figure I will get it, play around with it while the great folks here figure out the process and then I will decide if I want to keep it or not. For $200 I am not out much and I can give it away as a Christmas gift or return it if I don't like the thing.
DONE! How can you pass it up at that price? And with XDA throwing knives at it..... This is the entry point for E-readers and Tablets....
I ordered a couple for my family. We have the older kindles and it looks like a worthy upgrade.
I ordered one and the new $79 kindle as well. Cannot wait.
I preordered a few days ago. I still have not been charged for it yet.
And I have preordered things from amazon before. They don't charge until the day it ships.
As per usual the U.K has to play the waiting game and will probably be 40% more expensive when it eventually gets here...... Grrrr

I do, but the app wasn't installed, so it doesn't work :'(
And I tried to install plan b, I read lifehackers post on it awhile ago, but these people were expert thieves, they changed the service to another phone, and tried to make a purchase with it almost immediatly. Luckily, the charge was canceled and I ended service for the phone, then they sent me the new phone I'm currently using.
I would have loved it to work, but alas, sad. My only concern now is if there is a way to deauthorize that phone from my google account. Other than that, as soon as I get around to rooting this thing, I'll be fine.

I broke my screen digitizer a few weeks ago. Luckily I was able to buy one off ebay and replace it myself. The only thing that I did wrong was I didn't really reglue it down to the frame, so dust and dirt has been getting underneath the screen (which you can see behind bright backgrounds). BTW, if anyone breaks theirs, here's a great video on how to take apart the whole phone.

My RMA Experience

Had a USB malfunctioning error, got a code 43 unknown device error on windows. (see thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1468832)
Will post my RMA progress here,
I live in Glasgow, Scotland & the service centre for here is in Czech-Rebublic. Told them about the error and they gave me an RMA number on 1/2/12 (2 emails exchanged). UPS picked up the package on 2/2/12. Packed the transformer on its own in its original box, UPS came today took the package off me, gave me a receipt, stuck a label on the package and told me to sign it with my signature and date.
(I'll update this accordingly)
Reached the Asus service centre in Czech-Rebublic today 3/2/12, seems like UPS is overnight. Nice service, Asus.

THEY HAVENT FIXED IT.
there was a note with the tablet saying no issues/no trouble found.
Now, its either they didnt bother fixing it OR its my USB cable.. I'm going to order a brand new ASUS USB cable and re-check. Ill keep you's updated. Still dont know why they would waste so much of their own money on shipping when they never even fixed it.. This is the only reason im trying another cable.

Here's what you can expect from asus rma experience.
Case 1: If you call in ahead of time and describe to them exactly what's wrong, you can expect to get your tablet back within a week's time.
Case 2: If you call in and tell them what's wrong, but you are iffy about it, you can expect to get your tablet back in a week and a half.
Case 3: If you have no idea what's wrong with your tablet, you can expect to get your tablet back between 1.5 week to a month.
That said, if they tested your device and saw nothing wrong, they would have sent it to a different guy to do further testings.
Anyway, my bet is your cable.

Just to let you know some devices will not be recognized depending on the device itself. If the device works fine on a pc using the same cable then it is probably just an issue with the transformer recognizing it.

I just got my TF101 dock back
Well first at all the bad news:
they sent me an used/refurbished dock unit, mine was cosmetically 100% perfect paid full price retail on amazon.com, the one I got from asus has 2 major scratches, 1 crossing the following keys: Tab, Caps Lock, Shift and Crtl and even extends further down to my dock itself(plastic area), the other one is a highly noticeable scratch( a very large one) close to the touch pad. I find this highly offensive from asus, how come you treat your customers like that asus, I will try to get rid of it on ebay, since my power button is still loose and haven't send it to ASUS yet, probably never will. Good luck to people still looking to get a tf101/tf201
The good news is apparently this dock works fine. we'll see.

WTF ATT!!

So I got my phone today and low and behold I have some serious (at least to me) blemishes and scratches on the back. Some pics below. I know they may not seem too bad but come on, this is a brand new phone, and unexceptable if you ask me. So I actually go to my nearby ATT store to see if they have stock already so they can swap it out and they don't have any yet. You could see it in the eyes of the workers that they hadn't seen one yet. Borderline oogling over it.
Anyways, they say call ATT and they'll send me another. I call and low and behold they CAN send me a replacement (not overnight mind you, I'd have to pay for that), but as I had to remind them, there is a backorder for it so they couldn't tell me when I'd get it. All this time I wouldn't be able to activate the phone. I say screw it, I'll keep it but you gotta give me something here. All they can do open a customer credit report and see if it goes through. Suffice it to say.....I'm pissed.

Yeah this is a total case of WTF. Must have happened in the flashing process when they added all their carrier crap.
Wow. Was it shipped in bag full of rocks?
Thats how mine is from GPlay! Not as bad as yours but the same type of marks.... Seems like it was slid around and there was a bunch of dust/debris in the box on the phone.. I called them up right after I saw and they were gonna set me up with a new replacement but there is a problem with there system with that apparently...:roll eyes: So I have to wait for them to fix that then get in contact with me to set up the replacement... Im using this one in a case in the mean time but it definitely shouldn't fly to get one that looks this way!
Looks like someone was skate boarding on it before shipping. Lol I would return it. There is no fu#king way I pay over $700 for a screwed up phone.

I think it has some room to move because there doesn't seem to be anything keeping it in place or anything protective it has to sit on. Its just sitting on indent of the phone with the documentation. I think it happened during shipping possibly especially if it was man handled it could bounce around and scuff up but idk? i don't see how sliding on cardboard could cause marks like that.
Im also still waiting on Gplay to reply and fix there system to get me a new replacement...
Did you have any issues getting AT&T to initiate the return? This is ridiculous, mine has this too.

They would have touched it last when flashing their splash screenand doing the logo on the back. But a previous commenter said his gplay device was the same. I would look at how the phone fits in the retail packaging. Does it have room to move around at all, is what i would be looking at.

AT&T wouldn't have done it themselves, just semantically speaking.
They would have made a deal with the OEM (Motorola) to make the modifications on their behalf before packaging.
Not defending AT&T or anything, of course.
