[Q] Guitar Amp App - Acer Iconia A500

I have been a musician for around two decades now, and just recently decided to really start learning the guitar. I have a USB jack for it and was thinking about connecting it to my tablet to use as an amp. I cannot find an app for this, and dont even know if its possible.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Native Instruments for PC
Hi,
I haven't come across an Android solution, but if you also have a PC, I highly recommend Guitar Rig from Native Instruments, they even have a free version
http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/producer/guitar-rig-5-player/
You will need an A/D to USB device to hook up your guitar. Personally I am using one of these cheap Chinese ones ...
http://www.benl.ebay.be/itm/Guitar-...149?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item1c206b351d
It's a fun !!
Hope this helps, Marcher

I couldn't find anything searching as far as an app.
However, I think that I may have found a reason for this. As far as I can tell from reading about it, there may be a latency issue with the way Android processes audio that has not been overcome. What that means to you is that you could strum your guitar, and then a second or so later the sound would (finally) come out of the tab.
There may never be an app for that on the versions of Android that we use today. Hopefully this limitation can be overcome someday in the future.
Final note; I gleaned this information on the interwebz. It may or may not be fact. I only researched until I found this answer and moved right along. So I certainly could be completely wrong. Feel free to correct me and respond to this potential fud with relevance.

thanks for the help. I was looking for a nice setup on the pc as well so this works great. Hopefully someone will come out with an app for that lol

Actually, low-latency native audio was implemented in Gingerbread, so it's quite possible.

XDA really sucks as a phone

Well my sage continues with this XDA (SX56). This $400 Paper weight has finally pushed me back to using a PALM device. Very disappointing since I love the functionality of my Pocket PC. After Upgrading and downgrading ROM and Radio Stacks the device just never truly gets to be a phone. So I have to go back to carrying my Toshiba PDA and my Palm Tungsten W in order to get anything done.
I am so sorry for even buying the dam thing it has been a serious dampener to my business and I would never recommend another PDA/Phone like this again, to anyone.
So if your are on this website looking for a fix...there isn't one. Accept the fact that the device is just a pretty PDA that can be a phone once and a while.
I am very happy with my xda and xda 2, I have never had a problem with the phone side and I think the xda is the best featured value for money pda/phone on the market. Maybe you should address the problem in the hope of fixing it, messing with radio stacks is not to be taken lightly. If you supply all the details such as original radio stack, current radio stack, original and current rom, the nature of your problem etc. you may find a solution, if you just want to moan then moan to the suppliers. If you have been experimenting with non official upgrades etc then it is not the fault of the supplier or the hardware.
Great device
I used my xda as a pda, to access emails, to surf the net, as a library, as a directory, as a newspaper and even as a phone now and again (have I missed anything out? oh yes its a big kids toy as well.). Now and again I get a hitch ... usually due to my own meddling, but most of the time it all works fine. I finally talked myself into an XDA II a couple of weeks ago and now I can add media messaging, video camera and wifi to the list.
As for the phone, I guess your network and local signal strength will dictate how well it works ... perhaps I have just been lucky.

Agreed, I am very happy with the phone and pad portions, as well as the ability to hack and test like mad.
Plenty of people seem happy. Me included. Seems that you fixed what wasn't broke. Jolly bad luck, old chap.
I'm trying to work out what was the purpose of your post. Sounds like an admission that you screwed it up.
In my experience, company directors shouldn't ever be allowed near technology...
mmm 7 posts
6 from last two days
all just complaining
How do you treat employees that only complain?
Phew, it's getting a bit warm in here!
I agree with the general consensus, it's a great device, and i think you just have to accept that any device that can be a phone, pda, internet browser, satnav, mp3/video player etc etc all in one handy little box is going to have a few problems every now and again! Stop moaning!
Perhaps I'm biased because I have been a PPC fan for a long time and so really utilize my XDA II's PPC functions a lot. But to me the phone aspect works pretty well too.
I must admit it is a bit disappointing that we need to buy 3rd party applications like RingtoneX and PocketZenPhone to profide functions which are standard in most other phones but apart from that I am happy with the phone functionality too.
Combined with my in car kit and Destinator GPS the XDA II becomes even more functional. The clarity of calls made and received in the car is fine and the GPS is fantastic.
For a mobile hands free I have opted to use the Logitec BT headset. Yeah I look a bit weird with it stuck on my ear but it certainly does the trick.
I'm sorry you are disappointed with your choice Director4u2c, but I am very happy with mine.

Yep, I've had a few problems with my Xda1, but after finding this site and being very patient and persistent I now have 2003 and it works really well as a phone, I'm a youth worker and need a reliable phone - this fits the bill. I've got all my contacts can browse the internet for housing vacancies etc. I suggest you ask rudegar to send you some basic instructions (as he did for myself) and then play a bit. At first I found the instructions very confusing, but by going step by step I upgraded the software and it all works fantastically! Give it a go mate, and hopefully you'll have better luck

Audio Alibi such as SounderCover?

I dont know if anyone recalls SounderCover made by Simeda a few years back that adds background noise to your calls... is there any such program for WM5? The Simeda program never went anywhere and was for Symbian OS at the time... I would imagine with all of the talented WM5 developers out there something like this would have popped up... Maybe I'm not using correct search terms
As of now, this is available for the phones made by Gigabyte only
Just a suggestion:
Might work if Alibi sounds were ported through the external (Speaker-phone) speaker. Would be an awful lot of work, and quite awkward in public, but possible.
i remember this from the Ngage i used to have, but alas no such luck on a pocket pc unless you go to a Gigabyte like hdubli said.
its the same as the much sort after phone answering machine.
bringing up this thread ... hope this app can be invented by devs out there

[Q] Repurposing Older Android Phones

I've got several older Android phones that I've retired from use and are now collecting dust in my closet.
I'd like to use these units as something other than a cell phone (or a paper weight). I'd like to disable the cellular network component and use the phone either as a music player, or as a satellite enabled GPS receiver.
Are there any custom ROMs for this? While I can get these devices functioning as described above, however whenever they are rebooted I get the "new phone" messages looking for service providers, or complaining that the device is missing the SIMM card.
Thanks in advance for relevant information. Don't flame me TOO badly if I'm being tragically unhip and noobish w/this request.
Idk if its much help but I use my old Droid x for a camera and games. I got past the activation screen by pressing the 4 corners on the screen around the android guy. If I'm not explaining it well you can find it on Google by searching for something like using Android phone without activating.

I would think it's possible, but it will depend entirely on the device and its support within the community. Search the forum for your device(s) and determine if it can be "rooted" first. Most can, although what you can do beyond that will often depend on how popular the device was. The device forum will have advice on what to do to get the functionality you want.
Good luck!
Why not stick a large memory card inside and use it for torrents?

Thanks for the responses.
Ideally I was planning on using the audio player in my car, something that would boot up into the standard phone desktop and skip the "Where's my SIMM card? Where's my carrier??" device panic.
Same for the GPS unit.
The devices are a G1 and an older Motorola Droid, the G1 is rooted but not the Droid yet. Thanks again.
Repurpose old android
A couple of ideas that I like are using the phone as a bit-torrent device, or maybe as a pirate box. But one idea I like a lot and would love to hear something from the developers is about a device on Kickstarter called Twine (I can't post links yet so you will have to look it up), how hard would it be to use old android devices in this same fashion?
I went through the same thought process for my old HTC Hero. Currently, I have CM7.2 installed on it (because it runs smoother and has plenty of options to potentially reduce unneeded battery use) and I keep it clean and in airplane mode. Even that alone allows me to get some pretty good battery life on it to go towards being used as a music player and as a backup device for geocaching.
That in mind, I'd say finding the most barebones ROM will do the trick for you. Or find the newest fully developed version of CM for each device and use that.
you could try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2644588
Follow the link I posted, you would be surprised how much you have to disable/freeze before it stops complaining.
Some processes you can not disable unless you are rooted.

TV receiver via IR && 1 TB cloud storage?

so i remember hearing about these things in the live preview, that the IR would work as a TV antenna receiver to give you TV on your phone.
i also remember hearing about a samsung version of cloud storage with 1TB space. these didn't get much attention, but can anyone confirm that these are in fact s4 features?
while were at it i might as well throw out some other miscellaneous questions.
the samsung keyboard has Swiftkey built in? this was mentioned, then never elaborated on.
secondly since were most likely getting snapdragon, does anyone know how the soundchip compares to s3, its worse right, since its integrated in s600?
thanks guys, theres a zillion small details to figure out, i appreciate you guys helping to fill in the blanks, so ill give 'Thanks' to anyone who gives feedback
since I'm asking so many questions i might as well give something back, so here's something you prolly didn't know, the camera app has configurable hardware buttons, so you can set the hw buttons on the phone to be a shutter/focus/zoom/whatever else you want, in any way you want. found that fun fact translating a German blog who demoed the camera lol.

I just converted to Windows Phone 8. I'm rocking a T-Mobile Nokia Lumina 925. I have experience using both Android and iOS. For some reason the simplicity of WP8 has made me "content" with using it.
A few things I just wanted to note. Perhaps someone here can answer the questions if he or she has it.
1. SMS Transfers (While I was able to successfully move my SMS messages using the Nokia Transfer App on my Nexus 5, iOS is a different Story. When I run it against iOS is recognizes the texts but says there is 0, when there a lot more then that.
2. USB Streaming in the car. (I have a USB port in my 2010 Chevy Cruze. While I was able to stream anything from Pandora to Tune IN off my iPhone, the Nexus 5 couldn't do this. I had to resort to using the AUX port, but the sound quality was lousy. I wanted to know if there was an app or something that may allow me to use my USB port on my WP8 phone
3. YouTube. (I had no clue why Google has been not friendly in allowing a native YouTube app on WP8. I do find alternatives in Windows Marketplace, but I would like a suggestion of one that is the best one to use)
4. Apple TV (Now I know folks will probably laugh their ass off, but is there an app that would let me stream content to it. If not is there a device I can purchase that can?)
5. WP8 Info (Unfortunately unlike Android, there isn't much of anything on XDA that talks about WP8. Are their known websites {don't freaking tell me to google it} that has more info on the OS.
6. Google Now (again another laugh your ass moment, but I really liked those darn cards. The one in particular was giving me a travel time from my home to work and vise versa. Is there an app that can do that in the WP8 Store?)
7.Battery Life (I'm amazed at the battery life of this thing. It's lasted longer then iOS and Android but I miss not being able to see how much percent I have left. Again the WP8 store had a dime of dozen apps for this, but i'm looking for a good recommendation on one that I can use.)
8. OWA. (There was an app I was using with the Nexus 5 called 'FASTOWA'. It let me logon to my corp Exchange account using OWA where I can quickly look at messages. The company doesn't allow ActiveSync so this work around was pretty much what I used. Is their an app alternative for this on WP8)
Again Thanks in Advance for posting some answers. I know there will be some smirk comments about this, but those who do happen to come upon this thread and give me real answers, I'll really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Angel

1.- No idea about SMS transfers. Maybe iOS has its own storage system for storing sms.
2.- What do you mean by USB Streaming? Maybe you're confused, as the iPhone dock also has an analog line-out and can stream audio out of it. In Windows Phone, as well as in Android, you don't have that dock port as it's an Apple proprietary port. You're stuck with line out, which is not bad at all if you have a good cable and set it correctly.
3.- Currently, the best YouTube app for Windows Phone is MetroTube (which costs US$ 0.99). The other good app is YouTube HD (which is free). Both of them gives you great functionality and many options.
4.- Apple TV uses their own proprietary streaming system called AirPlay, while Nokia and every other phone manufacturer uses DLNA (which is a standard by the way). If you want your Apple TV to stream content from your phone (whether it's Windows Phone, Android, Blackberry, whatever), you need to download an app to your Apple TV device to work as a DLNA device. Once you've done that, you can easily stream content from your Nokia phone using Nokia Play To. (which uses DLNA)
5.- WPCentral is a good site with info. XDA forums are good as well.
6.- No idea as I have never used Google now myself. Sorry.
7.- You can use This or This app to see the phone battery percentage. Windows Phone 8.1 will show percentage on the notifications bar.
8.- There should be no problem at all configuring your enterprise account as "Exchange server" on the accounts settings.
Hope this post was helpful.
Any time anybody requests "{don't freaking tell me to google it}" I assume they're an <REDACTED> who thinks their time is more valuable that that of the forum members who they expect to answer their easily-looked-up facts for them, and also so unintelligent that they think they'll save time writing a post rather than just looking it up themselves. These are behaviors I actively dis-incentivize on the forum, for example by not answering even if I know the answer, in the hopes that you or somebody else reading this post in the future will learn.
By the way, the #1 rule of this forum is "Search before posting".
Now, if you meant to say "I looked for a good site but there are so many; which one do you all prefer?", or maybe "I searched but all I got were support and specifications sites, and I want discussion and announcements" or something else of that variety, you should have said that. Give people an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge or Google-fu *without* sounding like an entitled <REDACTED> who can't be bothered to forum rules, and many of them will do so.
Oh, and it's "Lumia". I have no idea why people keep adding an extra 'n' to the name. It's a slightly weird letter combo in English, but not *that* weird, and it just looks wrong written with six letters instead of five so you don't even have the excuse that it "looks about right; I don't remember the real spelling".
The individual who replied before hand, GDTD, is possible one of the few remaining developers that try and support the platform out in the open for no other benefit then to help and contribute to the community. Given the amount of inane questions that are asked on here through no other reason then laziness, much of which is directed at GDTD, its not hard to see why devs an long term contributors get a little peeved when asked questions that can easily be found out, the internet is full of just about anything you can think of, google even helps you find most of it, but xda is primary source of that information, not a regurgitator of it

Why would breaking Forum rule number 11 get you in to trouble?
As a general rule of thumb, if another site has information that is relevant to your post then post that information HERE then supply a link to the person who deserves credit.
Telling people to just go somewhere else to contribute is not good practice for XDA to continue to thrive.
I'm really sorry . I never meant to break a rule. he was asking if there was somewhere he could get more info on Windows Phone and I gave him the link to where there is nothing but info on Windows Phone. I was trying to be helful and meant nothing against this great forum.
Thanks so much for reminding me of the rule as I confess I never read that rule.
"don't freaking tell me to google it" is disrespectful on the face of it, in addition to bordering on an outright violation of the forum rules. We are *not* here to be your personal interface to publicly available information. You blew "Respect me and I'll respect you" with your very first post [EDIT: in this thread]; I don't know why you expected to be respected after insulting everybody who reads the forum with that (confrontational!) bit of childish petulance.
FYI, I'm about 75% sure I could get you banned for immature piece of ASCII "art" - the mods *might* just edit it out with a pointed message to you instead - but I haven't bothered reporting you *yet* simply because my skin is thick enough to put up with some random person on the Internet who has an entitlement complex; I see them every day. You just happened to win the lottery on which one I responded to on that particular day. You seem to be an otherwise decent person, aside from a thin skin and the aforementioned childishness. "Making fun of" indeed! Guess what: I made fun of President GW Bush for his absurd mispronunciations on national TV. Act the fool where people can see you and they'll treat you like one. But pointing out that you misspelled a 5-letter word deserved a "lol oops" response, at most. Grow up, kid.
