Thrive Sleep of Death in Canada - Thrive General

So I just picked up a Thrive an hour ago here in Canukland, it is running 3.1.03.5.0003.
It is afflicted with the Sleep of Death which also includes random reboots. I've checked the Service Station and there's no updates whatsoever for the unit.
Is there some sort of manual update I can do for this or am I SOL until my 'region' is available for the fix?
**** regions.

Not another 3G/EDGE issue

well let me start off by saying that I have read all of the threads from day one about the fluctuation issues but have never yet experienced it myself, until today.
I have never had the issue before but today when I woke up I turned on my phone after its charge, i have never turned it off during a charge before, and I am experiencing this problem now.
My question is, is it time to root and flash a new radio to the N1? I have put off rooting because I havent had a reason to yet.
Thanks in advance for the input.
Ps. i am not new to rooting so I aint scureedddd.
oopsieee wrong section, can a mod please move this to either General or Q&A!
thanks

thanks for moving mindfrost, i had a brainfart lol.
anyone with input? i'd much appreciate it. The fluctuation is still going on but its not such a big deal because I am usually on wifi. Should I just wait for a new OTA from google?

I don't see how these things could in any way be related...Who is your carrier? You may want to contact them and see if they are having issues with a local tower or have a tower out so are now experiencing a weaker 3G signal and thus bouncing.
I am on T-Mobile, trust me I was just as confused. I know that turning off a device while charging "shouldn't" have anything to do with fluctuating signal thats the only thing I did.

have you tried another radio (software) version? what version are you using now?
i am on ere27
my radio is 4.03.00.21_2
he's on stock too...I only have this problem when holding the phone. Herd its normal.
I just started experiencing the 3g problem too. Didn't have this problem before. Completely stock (unrooted) with the OTA update. I thought it could just be the weather or some temporary maintenance but I've been experiencing it for about 3 days now.
Southern California area.
This better get fixed, I bought this phone the day it came out.
This is totally wierd, I have had no problems whatsoever signal wise with my nexus. Actually I have had a significant increase in quality and signal coming from a Mytouch3G. I have none of the problems at all that are described with signal, screen or anything. Got lucky I guess.
@pongalong - thats about the same time I have been experiencing the problem. Its def not the weather here because it has been beautiful the past week, highs in the 70's but in Feb we had a colossal snow storm which knocked power out and I had great signal then, its so odd.
@sinister - I didnt have any problems whatsoever until about two days ago.
Matter the towers are being worked on... one day my signal was horrid only the next day to find out the upgraded the towers where I live....
Tmobiles great here in portland oregon..
Went about 45 miles out of my area and the problem seemed to disappear (although it seemed to be around when I was indoors - probably just due to interference). Hopefully they're just doing some work in my area like mentioned above.
Any improvement or updates from the OP?
Hopefully T-Mo is almost ready for 21Mb/s.
It seems to have somewhat went away..it still fluctuates but only where I am below 2 bars of 3g. I'm getting used to just switching to 2g only in low 3g areas. Then I get full edge usually. Kinda weird but ill just wait for an update I guess.

Random lockups, before and after NoDo.

So yea... my DVP locks up every once in a while, crashes, etc. Is this normal? I'm getting kind of annoyed and ready to do an RMA, but I can't be without a phone (obviously).
Just curious if I'm the only one or not.
Depends on what you mean by once in a while. Short answer is a rather high percentage of 16GB DVPs have major stability/lockup issues (lots of threads here about it), most 8GB are fine. Supposedly Dell will release a firmware update in the next couple weeks to adress it.
Yea, I have a 16GB so I guess that may be my issue.
Any location for the announcements from Dell on the issue? I'd love to see that update sooner than later.

Best thing to do is watch the boards here and follow Dell on Twitter. Most DVP news on Twitter comes from @LionelAtDell (http://twitter.com/lionelatdell) and on the #dellvenuepro hashtag (http://twitter.com/#search?q=#dellvenuepro)
Mine's 8gb and it locked up quite often, up to couple times a day. I started to think about returning..
Since NoDo my DVP has started to lockup randomly too. Before it was just with wifi, but now it seems rather arbitrary. Hopefully the firmware update will bring this one down too.
Mine was locking up primarily while in marketplace on wifi, then while charging. Now it's locking up while Zune is playing. Funny how it started locking up more after my 30 day refund warranty was up. I'd love to get my money back, but Dell says I can't. Now I'm waiting to see what my attorney general has to say about it.
It's ironic that when I viewed this link through my phone, it locked up my phone.
*sigh*

You are not the only one suffering with the random lockups. It is getting quite irritating with or without the no-do update. I am still randomly getting the lockup while charging but "especially" when using Internet Explorer. From my experience, using the browser seems to be much worse with the no-do update on my phone. I cannot tell you how many times the frozen/lockup situation occurred to me within a 5 minute span. Loading a site, freeze. Opening a tab, freeze. scrolling through a site, freeze. The phone basically works whenever it wants to work. I'm sorry but this is absurd and I hope the new update will solve these issues. If not, many people including myself will be extremely unhappy.

ASUS confirms Transformer power fix incoming

http://androidcommunity.com/asus-confirms-eee-pad-transformer-power-fix-incoming-20110713/
Wonderful news! Still I don't see how this bug was missed. It was one of the first things I noticed when playing with it on the first day I bought it... and it's so widespread... did they not even play around with them first?
This is GREAT news! I was going to send my dock for RMA today! Guess I will wait a little more. If anyone has more news don't hesitate to post: timelines, firmware or hardware fix...
Joël.
So this means that it not the dock itself so people can stop trying to find b60s

Me too. I have the RMA package all wrapped up to go. Now I'll wait and see.
This reinforces the value of forums like XDA. Sufficient data has been presented in various threads here to assist ASUS in narrowing down the issue and hopefully fix it. In addition the pressure from members kept the issue in their sights. Hopefully the fix will improve the overall experience and not just fix one issue at the expense of creating another.

Hopefully its just a firmware update.

I haven't noticed any power/draining problems personally. In fact, I am amazed at the battery life of the tab while docked. But glad that a fix is in the works for those that need it.

i believe the article mentions it as a firmware update, but we'll have to see...that and other possible fixes on the horizon in 3.2 are just what is needed in a prod introduction. Sure there's bugs but it only becomes an issue if you don't address them.

I get excellent battery life if I put my ÁT in airplane mode when I'm done. I don't mind waiting 15 seconds for a few emails to download when I take it out of airplane mode.

My dock has already been shipped off for RMA, but I also hope that at least a portion of the issue may be correctable via firmware update. However, there are several reports in this thread (specifically here and here) that indicate that a hardware fix may be required.
In the main thread on dock battery drain, many with the B60 docks are reporting much small drain during standby and power off. So Asus is likely doing something different to the is newest batch of docks, and that means they have a 'fix' already.
So what are they waiting? Unless whatever they did to the B60 batch is hardware, and they need to figure out a software fix to patch the problem in older docks...
The fix is probably rolled into the 3.2 update.

I wouldn't assume too soon. I got a B60 dock 2 days ago. I also have had a B50 for about 2 weeks. There are noticable battery usage differences between the two in regular use, standy and when the tablet is turned off.
When I assume I make an a.....well you know
Lets wait and see what Asus says and does...
"We will shortly be announcing details on how this will be resolved for our customers."
If it was just a firmware update, they'd probably have said so. As in "We will shortly be releasing firmware to resolve this for our customers."
The only reason I can see for phrasing it in this manner is because they're expecting a hardware update -- which means "details" will be needed to tell customers in each market how to return their docks, what the expected turnaround time is, who pays for shipping, which serial number ranges are included, etc.
I hope I'm wrong, but I deal with decoding public relations-speke every day, and this doesn't read like a simple firmware update to me.

Update to correct SOD on thrive now available!

Just installed without a hitch. Hope this does the job! Look for it in Service Station in your apps.

I've had the update for a few days now and have not experienced a single failure to wake. As far as I'm concerned the problem is fixed. Toshiba has done a tremendous job of resolving problems quickly, posting updates and keeping its user infromed. Well done Toshiba!
Impossible as it was only released today. Maybe you are looking at the prior 2 updates available... !

Nope, tis for sleep of death.
Well, my ever-present SOD has disappeared since the update - so far. I don't know that I would go so far as to call it fixed if I were Toshiba, though. On both forums.toshiba.com and thriveforums.org, a number of people are reporting that the SOD persists in spite of the update. In addition to that, people who had no random reboots are now experiencing them. So maybe this is a partial fix, but it doesn't seem like it was just one issue causing all the problems.

Actually...
...he's right that he's had it for a few days, and you're right that it was only released yesterday.
Toshiba did a test run of the update with a handful of users who first reported the issue over on their support forums. They wanted to run it through the paces with regular users before sending it out to the masses. That's the update he's referring to, not any older ones.
Toshiba asked that the testing be kept quiet. So, it's not surprising that most people would be confused about it.
Is there some form of manual install for said update? Here in Canada there's no updates listed in Service Center so I'm stuck with a semi-bricked device that needs to be rebooted any time I need to use it.
Seriously though, how does a company release a tablet with a bug like THIS!?

The update has not been released in Canada. You can go to thriveforums.org and get whet wou need to root your device and then flash the 0032 update to your device.

Your welcome.

RMA Cracked Corner. Received LTE version as replacement.

So I was one of those affected by the Shield corner crack issue and got my replacement this week. I was out of town so I didn't open it for a few days. When I did much to my delight I noticed it was the 32gb LTE variant. This happen to anyone else or did I just get lucky?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2842175 Towards the end of this thread, 200 people lucked out. The rest get 16gb versions.
I received the LTE upgrade replacement as well. The down side, OTA 1.2 has completely borked the tablet. Random lock up's and rebooting. I'm a little surprised they are having so many issues getting this thing slightly stable.

I'm using a wifi version, but 1.2 is working well for me. Maybe a factory reset and or reflash of the update will help. Also are you guys having to send the tablet out before getting the replacement sent?
I have the LTE version and 1.2 works great on my device.
What did you do wrong?

Opened the box, turned on the tablet, updated to 1.2, factory reset, use = Crashing non stop as well as MANY others posting on the official forums. This is with no apps installed as well. My WiFi only on 1.1 runs much better, but is cracked to hell. (have to mail that out tomorrow....note to self)
Also pretty sad you can't disable LTE, you have to activate airplane mode to turn it off. They STILL have not fixed OTG charging (sigh). The processor mode gets stuck till reset after it sleeps on any mode. I have read on the official forums that gamestream got screwed for many people as well. Game stream still works for me, but the tablet loves to crash coming out of console mode.
I have no problems with the 1.2 ota either
At least if there are a ton of bug reports, a fix should be pushed relatively quickly.
Give it time guys, Nvidia will get it there...and if they don't the devs here likely will.

Would be great to have a kernel dev working with the Shield tablet. This would allow using the stock rom as a option. The problem with the shield is so many of its features require the stock rom to work (at least right now).
Got my shield 32Gb LTE since 4 days, did the Oita to. 1.2 and rooted it.
Can't find any problems with it, battery is fine, no fc’s, sod's just a fine fast tablet.
