[Q] My Quantum appears to have reset itself ... can I fix it or at least get data off - Quantum General

Put my Quantum on the charger last night and woke up to it being on the "Welcome to your LG-C900" screen. I've tried taking out the battery, re-seating the SIM, etc. but no luck.
I do hear a little "click" when it is booting up ... is it possible to re-seat the internal memory? Or is that soldered on?
Or any other ideas?
I did update it via Zune a week or so ago but of course I have some pictures from a trip and my son's game since then ... I'd like to keep those.
Any ideas??
Thanks for any help!

Sorry, it sounds like it might be a defective unit... it should be still under warranty.

Won't read sim card anymore

So this is just a shot in the dark, but I'm hoping maybe someone can help.
A few months ago, as I was walking out of a restaurant, someone was calling me, and just as I was pulling out my phone, some drunken idiot ran into my spilling his soda all over me and my phone. I quickly dried it off, got home and let it sit for the next day or so. When I turned it back on, it wouldn't read my sim, and there was a very dark spot left on my sim card. Then after some cleaning, magically it started working again.
About two weeks ago, the sim reader suddenly stopped working again. Everything else works perfectly fine, except for the reader. I've tried cleaning it, flashing new/old roms, and nothing. So I'm back to my Razor. Which sucks.
Does anyone know how to maybe replace, or clean a sim reader?
Thanks
The easiest thing would probably be to just get a new sim card. Most providers will give you a new one for free and transfer it to the new one your number without any hassle at all. It's definitely worth trying that before you try replacing the reader itself. If replacing it is what you want to do though, try the post by Dharvey about his MDA being dead and you'll find a link to the service manual. I believe there's also a link to the service manual in the wiki.
Thanx for the input. I actually tried someone else's sim card with no luck. I also just took my MDA apart, cleaned out a bit of the corrosion I found, and tried running it again with no luck. I'm beginning to think it's probably a circuit/resistor problem, which I know I wouldn't be able to fix with my electronics skills, so I think I'm going to sell it and get a Tytn II
Anyone interested in my phone for parts?

I had this problem once. Don't know if it is the same with your MDA, but you just have to move the simcard a little, so it's exactly in the middle of you simcardholder. If I moved it just a little to far up or down, it wouldn't read my simcard, but if I put it exactly in the middle, it always read it. Try it, this should work! I also thought my MDA is broken, but now it works again!
It might be worth testing with a multimeter if any components are not working properly. Also check the joints for dry solder spots, they reguarly happen.

8525 suddenly wont turn on

I took the the SD memory card to put in some additional music and after I put it back in the phone 2 minutes later my phone just shut off and wont boot up anymore. I tried removing the memory card and nothing. I also tried plugging it into the charger and nothing lights up. I upgraded the rom and the radio a while back and havent had any problems since. I cant get it into bootloader or anything does anyone have any ideas? or did i just get me a handy new paper weight. Any help would be appreciated thank you

My 8525 died on me too! For no apparent reason it just powered off in the middle of a conversation and never came back. Good thing it still had a few days of warranty remaining.... that was close.

[Q] HTC Surround will not boot past white htc screen.

Hi I just recently applied the nodo update through chevronwp7. A few days later (today), I tried to sync with zune and had an error and would not read the phone correctly, I cant remember the message.. So I shutdown the phone then turned it back on thinking it would resolve the issue. But instead the phone gets stuck at the white htc screen( the first screen that comes on after pressing the power on button).
I have flashed ansar's cingular rom successfully several times, Tried the Windows Phone Support Tool......No luck. Will not get past the white htc screen, the only way to turn the phone off is by pulling the battery.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, bought the phone from ebay for my original at&t contract.....No Warranty that I know of. Sending it in for repair is not an option. Does anyone know of a possible fix? I am using Win7 x64.
Thanks, CheSley
It's borked, this has happened twice to me now. My devices were covered under warranty though. Sorry.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884142
This also happened to me. However my phone was still locked.
I bought mine on Craigslist so technically I couldn't claim it under warrenty but I talked to a guy at an ATT store and he said call anyway because 50% of the time they are to lazy to check. I called, was sent to a device center down the street and had a brand new Surround within an hour.
I'd suggest trying a call to ATT you might get lucky.
Fixed..
Hi there,
I also had this happen to me and unfortunetely I had one little red dot on the water sensor by the USB port so they wouldn't warrenty it for me.
Today i fixed the phone myself and it's up and running perfectly. With my issue i guess it was the SD card... Completely fried and unusable on anything. Once i put in a working SD card and rebooted the phone everything was running fine again.... It was a fresh start had nothing remembered except the stuff you purchased with your windows Live ID.
You do have to take apart the phone which could void your warrenty but this didn't matter any more in my case and i had nothing to lose..
Wasn't to hard at all..
Hopefully this helps someone else!

Good call, I was thinking it was a storage failure, but as I said mine were covered under warranty so I never voided the stickers But, if you have nothing to lose grab a small torx bit (t-4 I believe) and try it out. Then report back here.

Hi all and thanks for the quick responses. I actually just tore mine down a few minutes ago, pulled the sd card, re-flashed with original rom and it worked... luckily i have old 4gb card that might work. So far the phone says "installing apps" in the initial setup. hopefully it works... Thanks Everyone.
SD Card
I have the same problem, and no chance to claim the warranty cause I'm at Brazil.
I didn't understand what are you talking about the SD Card, this phone don't have SD Card. Did you disassemble the device?
Yes you'll have to disassemble the device to get to the card. From what I've read it's not that hard to do. Good luck.
Yeah I had that same thing happen to my Surround but luckly I had warranty. I tried everything possible to fix it but nothing seemed to work.
This same thing happened to me... I think my phone is still covered under warranty, but I have a very bad tendency to lose my receipts... So hopefully I can go and get a copy from the at&t store and get it repaired or replaced...
Excellent!!!!!! I had the same problem. I changed the SD and problem sold.
MUCHAS GRACIAS!! PURA VIDA
ok, I wll try changing the SD card

No charge, no sync - loose MHL cable port.

Only had mine 3 weeks and its broken already. I have been using a desktop charger and have not been forcing it in at all, not once, I have always been very gentle inserting it it, anyway it no longer charges, it looks like the connectors have pushed themselves back so they are not flush anymore and thus no longer connecting to charge or sync.
Not happy about this at all, I had my desktop charger for my HD2 for 18 months with no problems at all, this suggest a very weak connector.
!!! BE CAREFUL !!!
Going to call in at Phones4you and see if they will swap it, I don't hold out much hope though.
Wow bad luck man, but really you don't need the F word to express your frustration.

was it an official desktop charger or 3rd party?
DO a factory reset using code *2767*3855#
(please not this will wipe everything including built in memory, so do backup before you proceed. Backup possible by moving content of internal memory to SD card by copy paste in file manager)
I had a problem when my phone stopped charging after I upgraded firmware, It would also launch Connected to computer screen when it wasnt . Thought its dead.
Did factory reset using this code and its working flawlessly ever since. Seems to be some kind of bug which happens out of nowhere as 2 people I know have experienced this after upgrading to KE2.

I was going to ask exactly the same thing...
I think the OP means that the micro usb receptacle has come away from the board and has been pushed back into the body of the phone. I hope this is not going to turn out to be a common problem as it's something that seemed plague to the Nokia N900 and it took ages for Nokia to acknowledge a design/production fault.
great advice, now it wont boot at all, just goes round in circles....
F**cked.....
anyone got any ideas?
Hi, the charger isnt really the issue, i haven't had any problems inserting the phone into the charger, ie no resistance which suggests to me it was week or loose and has gradually pushed it self back over the last 2 weeks since I have had the charger. If thats the case it would have done this with any charger or cable.
Just spoke to phones4you, they are going to exchange it for me, they didnt even grumble after I told them what happened which I thought was odd, heading off now to pick it up.
Will be interesting to see if your wifi is any better on the new phone stoolzo. Maybe you could let us know. Thanks.

remove and reinsert battery
i had this issue when running custom kernels. somehow doesnt happen with stock.
issue happens like this:
u go to bed while charging
u wake up and the phoneis off or very hot with battery and temperature warning
u reboot and it doesnt reboot, doesn't boot, just goes in circle battery display/reboot cause it doesnt seem to charge neither have enough power to boot.
removing battery + cable then putting both back = it boots again and charge normally

Yeah, did all the usual things, I have bricked phones before and always managed to turn them around but we have no CMR to flash anything from ROOT/SD so when it wouldn't boot after a factory reset I knew I was in trouble
The MHL port being loose was the tell tale sign of a fault as I hadn't misused it at all. When I compared it to my new phone I got today it was defo a little further back, just enough to prevent it connecting.
Good old phones4you, fault report to phone exchange in under an hour, impressive.
Just in case the charger had anything to do with this I am going to get rid, dont think it did but I don't want to risk it.

Dead Nexus S

Hi guys,
Tried searching for my problem, but though I found some similar stuff, noone had quite my problem.
I was checking my Nexus S after a trip and it was with the 'emergency only' message. This sometimes happens to me, not sure if it's due to the roaming activation or caused by a bug where the radio subsystem crashes after a long period without network.
Anyway, I proceeded to my common solution: Turn off and reboot.
Except that after the phone was off, it would not turn on.
It doesn't even vibrate. It doesn't show anything when connected to the wall socket or to the computer. It's just completely dead.
Now, I'm not even sure if this is a hardware or software problem. Any idea on how I can debug this?
Here's what I've tried:
1. Take the battery out: no changes (even tried leaving it out overnight).
2. Charge the phone overnight: no change.
Next step: I'll go to a store and try a different battery... meanwhile I'm without my primary phone which sucks... Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance!
Try booting your phone into the bootloader. Hold the power button and volume up button simultaneously.
If it is not the battery, i can see what else you can do, a "dont turn on" phone is a dead end...

Guess I'm screwed... I had some pics and other data there... anyway I can get it back? i.e. is there a way to remove the internal sd card?

Yup, it was one of the first things I tried. No sign of life... I can't get a single sign that the phone is even being powered. It's like the battery was taken out.

Sounds like something is wrong with the hardware then. Have you brought it the store? Might need to get a new one on warranty.
I have the same issue with my old Blackberry 9000. It worked fine up until I stopped using it. Left it in a drawer for a few months. Went to sell it to Sprint. Wouldn't turn on. No LED, no nothing. Worked fine months before when I was still using it. To this day I have no idea what's wrong with it and it doesn't turn on.
Why not get an external battery charger and charge the battery up and then test it?
All true, and after trying with a new battery I'll have a bit more information.
But what strikes me as odd is that I didn't leave it in a drawer - I didn't even let the battery run down... it was just a damn reboot! I shut it down, and then couldn't power it up again (try and imagine THAT happening to you). It would be odd for the battery to be sucked dry all of a sudden...
I have a feeling that there's something else... maybe while shutting down something burned out in the power circuitry....? =S
No one ever heard of anything like what I'm experiencing? It sucks to be the only one!
Thanks for all the help so far, guys!
If you can get to download mode nothing is lost. Just flash new image via Odin.

Never heard of that happening, but it's a possibility... Still, I would first attribute it to a bad battery and try that first

With a new battery (that works on another nexus S) still no luck. =(
I still can't find anyone with this problem. I feel like the unluckiest idiot on Earth.
I assume I can't get to download mode since I can't even get the phone to report it is charging (it used to do that even if off). Do you want me to try anything, though? I'm open to suggestions until Monday. Then I'm taking it to Samsung. Hope they can recover my pictures.
BTW, my receipt doesn't have the IMEI and a customer service rep told me I need it on the receipt or they won't give me free support. How can I get it with the phone off?
Regards and thanks to all who responded,
Nuno
nuno, if you cant power on even with a new charged battery, then it's a harware fault and nothing can me done... =o\
but thanks for the advice, i never thought about the data in sd card, i guess i should make some backups! =o)

I've got the same problem: dead nexus s after a reboot. It says "no service" emergency call does not work. I tried pretty much everything like switching the battery, recovery mode, plug it in, etc. I even updated its image to the latest I've got access to. No luck. I'm already contacting samsung to get it replaced.

Did you try flashing a different rom? Or radio/
I haven't experienced this myself but I'm very interested on what happened. Did you guys flash any custom ROMS? or Radios for that matter?
This looks very similar to what i have. I just got my nexus s GT-i9023, it doesn't boot into fast boot, recovery, download mode or normal. The most activity i have got so fare is when i take the battery out, put it back it, and try turn the phone on it will sometimes flash then do nothing. I have looked every ware. When i use "./platform-tools/adb get-state" it returns "unknown". Any help would be great.
What i think i did was this:
- Unlocked bootloader, this worked
- restart
- installed clockwork mod with fast boot, this worked
- wiped data
- wiped cache (correct me if i spelt that wrong, or anything else)
- flashed cyanogenmod, this got an error but i didn't notice it the first time and i can't remember what it was.
- flashed gapps, this didn't work, when i restarted the phone it said that the installer for gaps had quit.
- restarted
- flashed cyanogenmod again, this is when i noticed the error
- restarted, didn't change anything
- wiped data
- wiped cache
- flashed i9020t recovery, this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061855 i think this is what stuffed it up because my phone is i9023
- wiped data after flashing, thats what it said to do, i thought it was strange but i went along with it.
- wiped cache
- reboot
- now doesnt work.
Take it to the store where you purchased and claim ignorance!
