i was thinking of getting the sensation but after many complaints of users from the same problems that is going to annoy me like touch screen unresponsive - lag - lock screen problems - bad software by htc
so i m now thinking to get the SG2
but i need the phone for the following reasons :-
1- fast speed and fast performance "no lag at all"
2- games play well on it
3- average battery life
4- good camera
5- sound quality
6- optimized stock software "very important"
and after a small tour in sg2 forums i found some issues people annoyed from it and it is not easy to be ignored
1- many talks about battery issue while some has good battery life and it has resolved ??? Q
2- pink spot on camera ..... does it appear while taking the photo in camera app only or in the taken photo or recorded video ???
3- i was surprised when i saw a complaint of some lag in games ???
4- a small lag for 2 sec after moving the immage of unlocking screen ??
these are 4 issues i want to be sure about and then i can get the phone
Im on my second SGS2 since the first was stolen after 3 weeks.. all i can say this phone is the best smartphone that exists. However only an idiot would go with touchwiz. That **** is so outdated and ugly, i almost puked when i first got the phone.
Here is what you need to go through if you want to make SGS2 the most awesome phone there is (takes about 20 mins and no rooting is required):
-install GO launcher
-install HD live wallpaper for GO launcher
-install GO SMS
-install GO contacts
-install Widgetlocker
-tweak GO launcher to look how you like
There is absolutely no lag, but there was some with touchwiz since the phone comes loaded with 100 widgets on and Touch**** is very unoptimized still.
All of the above apps are free and updated very very frequently
Games play very well on it (lol it has power like no other).
Camera is very good, not the best, but one of the best in the android world.
Sound is better than good although not the best but almost.
Like i said, i had one for 3 weeks, it got stolen and i bought a new one straight away. Didn't even consider anything else. Nothing comes close to SGS2!
Edit * overall it's the best phone. Nokia might have better cameras but the software is laughable. IOS is stupidly closed and you can't make it really work how you want (customization). SGS2 is the best of Android phones by far!
Hi, you are always always going to find problems with which ever phone you go with, sometimes to you can do too much research. This phone is bloody fantastic, I love everything about it. It kicks the crap out of pretty much everything I thow at it, videos, games apps. Battery life isnt fantastic but what to you expect for a dual core CPU running a 1.2 gig, this is laptop territory.
Most vendors will give you a week, to two week grace on your purchase, get it try it, thats by far the best option.
I came from a HD2, wasn't sure how much of an upgrade it was going to be, I also thought I'd miss the sheer number of ROMS available on the HD2. This phone is in a different league to most other on the market and there are now loads of cooked ROMS to choose from. Got mine Free for £25/month, haven't looked back.

and so what about battery issue ??? with moderate and heavy use how long does it works ??
and pink spot ..... this spot appear on the recorded video or taken pic ???
There is no pink spot. There was no pink spot on the first SGS2 and not on this second one either. If there is you can take it back and demand a new one immediately.
The battery of my first one lasted maximum of 2 days and some hours.. i can't remember exactly. The second one lasted the same until yesterday when i installed some apps that made something go wrong and it only lasted 5 hours and that was on the night when i didnt even touch the phone. I think some process was left running since i saw from the report that system took 75% of battery by itself at night. I think the app was theft aware 2 (it hides itself as system app so thief's don't delete it). I post this info so that people realize that battery drain is mostly caused by apps from the market.
TL;DR: battery lasts 2 days - 1 day heavy use
believe me ,you're as right as your complain but not so perfect not having it.
it is the best smart phone out there now, am not a sales rep neither do i want to convince you but nothing come so close to perfect in the phone world than the sgs2.
all phones got there one problem or the other but you will surely enjoy this one.........read alot about this and that on the forum also till i got mine and wasn't having those problem, dont ask me what i did to my phone cos i did nothing, just download batiste rom and love it .go for it i advice but let the choice be yours
ok thanks guys
but another Q .... about build quality and heat generation
the outer layer of the body of the phone is easy to be removed by scratches or it is fine and durable ?? this is a major factor that makes me toward sensation first
and what about heat generation is it a related to battery drain and solved or not ??
and does the heat affect the device ??? or it is in the normal range
i know it is normal to phone to get hot when charging or using gps or other hard work but my Q is the generated heat is tooo high that annoy or not ??

Try Samsungdive - doesn't eat the battery and it's built in!
Well, I started off thinking the SGS2 was not for me, then it grew on me, probably Android more than the phone.
Battery life started off pretty bad, but once you sort of a few things like the AP news widget that drains and uses data, etc...Also my battery lasts and charges faster each day, I guess the battery takes a while to get to its optimum, at first I was struggling with the battery life, now I am as happy as I was with my Iphone4.
Games don't lag at all, well at least not for me, I have now rooted mine so as I can use the chainfire 3D drivers to be able to play Tegra games, which run very smoothly indeed, just wish there were more games, but then that's not the devices fault.
I quite like TouchWiz, works well for me, but now I have just read about this Go UI thingy, I might try it out. Something I am finding more and more each day is how terribly addictive playing about with your Widgets and homescreens is, so much to play with and again, not had any lag whatsoever.
The camera is brilliant, much better then the old Iphone4's faster, clearer, quicker to autofocus, can't work out where this pink stuff is though, my photos seem fine.
Music, I use the built in player make sure 5.1 is set and download free Equalizer from the market, simply perfect sounds.
Another thing that I have not found as well is this wake up lag, perhaps I am so used to the slower performing Iphone 4 that I just don't notice these things.
If you want more imaginative and creative games and applications Android is not for you (but its getting there), go the route of Iphone4.
But if you want a super fast, stable, freedom to do what you like, OK games and Apps, general brilliant allround device, the SGS2 is for you.

Build quality - IMO : It's very good, there was a video on youtube showing the outer layer being really stretched and it was still like stock after the stretch. And it's anti-stratch(idk how to say), I got no scratch.
Heat generation, while charging it can get very hot, and maybe it get hots sometimes while playing, but I have the feeling it's gone after some times, or you get used to it. It's really bearable.
Battery drain is, for me, solved in XXKG1. Though I can get only 4 hours screen-on time(that's enough for me) with auto-brightness(3 approx. with max brightness), the phone can last a day and a half for me.
I think all smartphone have battery drain problem.
For me... in standby mode 2 days (received some calls)
and 6-8 hours maybe less for heavy use (games+wifi+gps)
but you can use Power saving mode function to save your battery life.
I got the problem about pink spot on my camera but someone said it will be fixed when new rom available.
"a small lag for 2 sec after moving the immage of unlocking screen" - I saw new 2.3.4 has fix this problem.

Dive dies when you change sim. I had Dive installed on stolen SGS2 and all it did was say "SIM card has changed" and it didn't give the new phone number of the thief's or nothing. SamsungDive is useless.
Theft Aware still works after Sim change and is way way better in functions.. im not ready to uninstall it yet, but hope to find that the drain is caused by something else.

1- this phone is lag free even on stock TW4. But Launcher Pro Plus is one of teh best alternative launchers for people that liek to change. And LPP won't affect your battery at all
2- I don't game but it is supposed to be one of the best gaming phones. Phone compatibility shouldn't be an issue as it is one of the top selling android phones
3- Battery life is great compared to most smartphones. It will also depend on your use of it. Most phones will be behind it though with such a screen.
4- Camera is one of the best on smartphones. But, of course, don't expect such a small lens to give you something even near to a DSLR or even a high end compact digital, ok!!
5- Sound quality: just like for point 4: don't expect it to replace dedicated hardware for music amateurs (not the RnB deaf generations )
6- I used it all the way on KE2 and since few days official KF3. Stay official and you'll have less issues if you like stock

1- Just select apps you need and don't install every freeware you see just to "consume" apps. Limit auto updating apps, limit auto-starting apps, avoid live widgets and limit most widgets. Just general good sense rules like with any OS in the world.
2- People saying they don't have the issue just don't know how to reproduce it. Yes, it has it, like the SGS1 I tested and many other smartphones. It will appear under some special circumstances. As I said, it's a very small lens and will have some limits under many circumstances, like it is with any lens if you know a little about photography. The spot won't ever bother you most of the times.
3- See my answer above about games.
4- This issue is absent. Most people in forums install any thing on their phone and then complain...
any one have dust under screen ???
it is one of the facts that makes me stop thinking of the sensation
Guys..how about the banding issue..? has the banding issue been addressed by the latest software upgrades? or does angry birds, the battery charging meter and live wallpapers still exhibit banding?
No banding, no dust under screen. I dunno how you could even fit any dust under screen, it's not like iphone 3gs with 5mm between screen and glass. I only had the previous for 3 weeks though and this one is about a week old now.
:O the banding issue has been rectified? could you post a pic of the charging screen or angry birds if possible?

ok guy's and gal's ,just want some good feedback on this phone.i used to have the g1 when it first came out ,had it for a while .up till about 6 mth's ago .then i sold it got a touch pro 2 .i love android but after the stuff with google pulled on Cyan .wasn't sure were all this was going.but know been looking to get back in .with the power and memory look's like partitioning the memory card will be no more .i know you can have root on this one to and it just came out ! so let me know on this phone what ya think.i read about battery life thread but that seem's to be the first place everyone go's to.i want to now how you like it for everyday use and if you are rooted it or not .thank' s for the imput.
Short answer...love it....can't think of a better device...wish the gps/compass was fixed sooner rather than later though...
I did root it as soon as I read the instructions via adb...glad to have wireless tether running and glad I don't have to worry about partitioning the sd card or having swap etc..
I think we all complain about some of the things on the phone but I mean what phone doesn't have its share of complaints? I think the general consensus is that most people love it =)
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
very good to here !ya what phone don't have complaint's lol well keep it coming thank's everone.
I'm rooted and absolutely love this phone.. I have no GPS problems and get locks fast... the screen is beautiful and amazes people everytime they see it. The camera is pretty good for me as its just a phone camera but takes awesome shots. The night mode kinda makes up for the lack of camera flash but once again no biggie. The compass is wack but whatever I don't use it. ..
The 720 p recording is awesome and takes great videos I was impressed.
The games are insane on this thing. The 3d graphics on this super amoled screen is just amazing, I actually play games now one my phone.. the screen is super responsive and the Multitouch is flawless vs the nexus one (came from it)..
All in all I love this. Oh I also get no slow downs either... and the memory is awesome no need for apps2sd or ever check my memory... fantastic phone way better than my old n1 IMO...
Best phone I've ever used/owned.
thank's everyone i think i'm sold.going to have to get one !well let's keep this thread going for all !
I absolutely love mine. Had it since launch. i used my gps for the first time two days ago and it worked fine for the most part. Im also unrooted at the moment. I also came from a g1 so from me to you, it's a good choice to go with.
Loving mine so far. My GPS takes a bit to lock on sometimes but its usually only after google maps crashes and locks up the phone. A manual restart usually solves it and I get a quick lock.
Screen is beautiful, responsive and just the right size. The phone is light and thin which I like and battery life has been getting better for me. With my latest cycle, light use mind you, i'm at almost 23 hours since charge and im at 58% battery left using Juice Defender.
This phone gets my recommendation.
If you want to use Layar, Google Sky Map, Wikitude, or any other Augmented Reality app, prepare to be disappointed. The compass problem really sodomizes all those apps' ability to know which way you're facing. It was so bad I returned mine before my 14 day remorse period was up. If they manage to fix it in software, I might get a new one, but it remains to be seen whether their fix will be adequate.
It took a lot to get the G1 out of my hands but this phone is just so much better in terms of performance, stability and usability. It does take a day or so to get used to the different feel and button placement but other than that - I would say go for it!
Pros:
CPU/GPU
Camera
Performance speed
16gb on board and still room for a SD card
screen
weight
thinness
Android
Cons:
GPS/Compass (lets hope they fix it)
No flash on camera
Cheap build quality (volume button is flimsy)
plastic feel kinda cheap
old iphone like design
Touchwiz
Samsungs future support is questionable.
Overall its a great phone with great hardware especially if you are on Tmobile. If you can look past the cheap design and the GPS issues that might be fixed in the future then you will enjoy the phone. If you want a higher quality feeling phone and solid support I would hold for a HTC phone.
I bought the phone and generally happy with it I just hope all the kinks are worked out.
thank's again everyone ,hope this will help others if they are wondering about it to !
I've finally had enough of the freezing screens, force closes, complete memory wipes and many other issues with my Arc so I've given it the flick and thinking of going s2. I've heard about the crap battery life (although there are some that say it's not too bad) which I can deal with but are there any other problems I should know about before buying an s2?
1. It doesn't have Sense or CM7 as yet
2. No Voodoo sound or colour tweaks
3. Some reports of reception issues and random data connection drops
4. Supposedly a random reboot issue
5. Autofocus is all over the place when doing 1080p video recording
6. No stereo sound recording
7. Takes about 3 hours to charge battery from empty
8. Supposedly poor build quality????
9. Maybe GPS not as accurate as other devices????
10. Some claims of overheating
11. It doesn't cook and clean.
edit: Just to clarify, these are some of the "issues" reported on the forum. My own device has been working perfectly but does suffer from issue 11

Crickey! Maybe the Arc isn't so bad after all...lol
Speaker is pants.
Don't believe everything you read. Buy the phone, it is by a long stretch the best on the market.
Using a UK handset from Carphone warehouse.. Full stock latest version, unrooted. Here is my take on the 'issues';
Battery is fine.
GPS is fine.
Sound is perfectly ample even considering the tiny components it's coming from.
No camera issues experienced.
Did experience some overheating during extended play of graphics intensive games on previous firmwares which now -appears- to be resolved in KF3 and was never unbearable aside from making your thumb sweat a bit if you continued playing through it anyway.
The 1080p recording excellent although it takes a very steady hand due to the zoom level it's fixed at.
Believe me coming from an Iphone 4 this has been a test for this phone, but I can fully whole heartedly say this is the greatest phone I have ever owned...
GPS - use it for recording my running using Runkeeper, run over 64 Kilometres since beginning of July, half of that distance on an Iphone 4 and half on this SGS2, the results are almost equal, in fact the SGS2 GPS tracking seems slightly more accurate, the fix to Satellites is near on instant, no problems here. 10/10
Battery - OK I have been having my worries and issues with this area, but I'm not sure I am imagining this, but it seems to improve over time, the more I drain/recharge the phone seems to last longer and longer 7/10
Screen - Well all I can say is, a screen any smaller would just not do, OK the Iphone 4's DPI resolution is higher, but the colours and size are simply marvelous on this Galaxy S2 10/10
Sound - Again at first I thought, give me back my Iphone 4, now I have discovered this little button 5.1 on the music player and WOW, in fact I prefer the sound quality through some decent Sony headphones on this to my Iphone4, deep bass, full surround like sounds, alas the external speaker is rather less impressive, but adequate. 9/10
Form factor - Initially I thought do I still have this in my pocket, its so light, but now being able to hold it in front of me reading a book or comic for ages is a delight 9/10
Camera - Again much better than the Iphone4 one, faster start up, superb quality photo's, 360 panoramic built in, lots of effects, you get a brilliant movie creator and image adjustment app built in simply brilliant stuff 10/10
There is so much to learn and do with this device, Android Market is improving all the time and now have most of the apps I loved on the Iphone, just they look so much better on this huge screen, advice = BUY IT

Think he has summed it up well , its basically the bes phone you can buy let alone best dual core phone with the least problems etc .
It does have a few probs but nothing major or showstopping . When they came out in may i got a couple and they had terrible screens , yellow tint and vertical lines .
I took them back the next ones were just as bad .
I waited a few months got a couple the other week and the screens are much much better , the tint is there but you cant see it in everyday useage , my others you could . I am well happy and its my gadget of choice at the minute .
Coming from symbian and maemo its refreshing and the 1st android device that can finally replace symbian and nokias convergance .
On a side note my battery has been excellent and prob beats my n8 which is pretty good for a smartphone peace mate and good luck with the purcahse
A dead pixel on mine is my only down side, but i'm getting mine exchanged tomorrow, so I guess none? Just look out for dead pixels I guess, though very rare.

Mine is overheating sometimes. But only when I game heavy for a hour or two.
Battery life is good for a smartphone but I'm not using stock rom.
Other than that it's the best phone I've ever had.
And it takes better macro photos than my Samsung NV20 camera.. (The camera sucks at macro all together but anyways )

3-Never happened to me..Being using since 2 months now.
4-Some Custom ROM issue, Never on stock.
7-Normally all smart phones do that that much time.
8-Disagree> watch this(here talking about only battery back cover that many people said sucked)
9-Gps never worked better on android.(galaxy s had gps issues, this one seems to have non straight from the box works fine)
10-Due to dual core,Get used to it.
12-That guy was dump not to a physical alarm if his job was so important, I agree to the post in that thread which says they had other reasons to kick him out. Its very odd to kick some one out of job for just one day late entry.
Edit: Out of million gs2 Samsung made those who reported those had the bad built, maybe damaged ones..So the ratio is 100:Millions..
Galaxy s2 is the best device i've seen on android and i recommend it to every one who can buy it

Oh no, I'm in the UK right now. Bought it from a retailer. Called the store about it, and they said they'd change it, just need to drop by tomorrow. Thank god though, since I'm leaving for Jamaica tomorrow.
I wouldn't dare buy a smartphone in Jamaica though, they're too damn overpriced down there. And the latest smartphone they have down there is the galaxy s last I remember. Will take a while before they get the galaxy s 2.

11. It doesn't cook and clean.
edit: Just to clarify, these are some of the "issues" reported on the forum. My own device has been working perfectly but does suffer from issue 11

agree with kbiz90.
For folks not familiar with Intratech: He's not only a forum user, he also singlehandedly manages 2 of its most helpful SGS2 threads and answers user questions on a daily basis:

Perfect phone!
I am using it with teh Lite`ning rom 2.2, battery drain 1% per hour. I haven´t got any issues. Coming from an Iphone 3G this is heaven... 100% recomended phone.

Cheers.
I ask this, as I struggle to accept that having paid £500 for a phone, it should give me so much trouble. Here are some of the bugs I have with this phone -
Galaxy s2 specific -
1. Random crashing and subsequent battery drain.
2. Ongoing battery drain from full to empty in under 5 hours! (although better with KE7)
3. Stock application crashing (email app, music app)
4. phone lockup requiring the battery to be removed to boot it again.
I defected from an Iphone expecting a refreshing user experience with a high spec android phone, and it's let me down on so many levels (not all due to the phone, some are android generic.) Some of my main gripes beyond the bugs above are -
1. The sound quality is terrible, it has the dynamic range of a very cheap mp3 player. Having used it through studio monitors, high end Sennheiser headphones and component car audio it really does perform very badly. (Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to clear their ears out or expand their musical choices beyond R&B, Dance or chart music.)
2. The android apps and app store is miles behind the iphone store and app quality (event the cross platform apps are inferior on android).
3. Everyone goes on about how fast this phone is, but there is very little available which shows it off, even BBC iplayer stutters frames on the s2, an app which is installed as standard!
As a phone for daily business and personal use it really needs some work to make it worth the money. This is the same price as a sim free iphone 4, so should be similar in terms of quality, stability and reliability
By the way, I'm a genuine user who has owned this phone since it's launch in the UK, and use it daily. Not a troll, just a disgruntled user, who has got passed all the hype and feels let down by the experience!
Mine is totally fit for purpose - not a single freeze or reboot in the 2 months I've had it, the battery is fine for my use.
It could just be that you got a bad unit - if it had been me, I would returned it for an exchange rather quickly. I guess given that you've had it a while, an exchange might be a bit more difficult to get so you could try a factory reset (back up your data first unless you want to set everything up from scratch) and see if it behaves, or you could speak to the shop/provider you got it from and have it looked at.
Edit: as for your other gripes, well maybe you might want to go back to an iphone if it is such an issue for you - I know there is a lot of side taking and "this phone vs that phone vs that other phone vs whatever"... the way I look at it is that the best phone is whichever one suits your needs
Stop with all these negative threads the vast majority of people are very happyy with their GS2, if the OP reads up they will no doubt find a solution for any problems, i was only getting 17 hours out of my battery now im getting 25+ hours, and the sound is far from terrible, in fact im not having any of the issues the OP is having, maybe you are genuine but you have 5 posts and you mention coming from an iPhone and how your "dissapointed" with your GS2 so people will likely think your an Apple Fanboy/troll.
Im on my second SGS2 since the first was stolen. With the first everything went smooth and i had a very good battery life. Then i got a new one to replace the stolen and my battery was very good until i installed theft aware 2. Boom i now occasionally have only 5 hours of battery life at night when i don't even use the phone. The phone gets very hot and i can see that the system is using 65% of the battery (lol should be what like 5%).
TL;DR Battery is good unless you install some crap from the market that kills the phone
However, i think you should run back to iPhone since it clearly is the best choice for you. I could not live without Go launcher, Go SMS and Go contacts or live wallpaper showing the weather at all times. I can't stand the limited that is the iPhone, but i think it would be 100% awesome for you.

If you actually read my op you would see that the point I'm making is that for a £500 phone I shouldn't need to trawl forums to fix problems with the phone. On the point of "all these negative threads" Is that not enough of an indication that not everyone shares your happy view on the phone?
Isadora, your right I should have taken the unit back sooner, but it was fresh on the market, and I expected some teething issues, but 3 or 4 updates later (I lost count) the phone is no closer to being reliable for daily use. It's now too late to return it!
Sounds like you may have a faulty unit with memory errors. Get it replaced or repaired. Happens with all devices, even fruit based ones..

Factory reset bro! Sometimes all the patching slows the phone to crawl. Factory reset and be careful of what you install after that. If you take 3 mins after factory reset and install the free Go launcher, your life will be ****ing AWESOME after that and you will want to donate your left testicle to me for showing you the path!
Edit * unlike the fruit phone, Android is always better with launchers from market. That's what Android is all about anyways, it's for you to tweak it to the max. If you don't like personality then go with the iSheep bro!

Thanks Buddy01 - I agree that there are some great apps out there, but they are great on any android phone, you don't need an s2 to enjoy them. It was the limited nature of the iphone which drew me to android, plus the feeling that the platform was maturing enough and taking a big enough market share to compete with apples offering. I don't think I'm being unfair to expect less grief from a premium phone like this! 'm Not running any crapware from the app store just standard apps, widget locker (only to get a half usable lock screen!) Go sms, and Spotify...

you should just stick with your iPhone mate as it appears that Android isn't for you,you would sell this phone no problem it's the biggest selling phone around right now.
I and many others are not having any of the problems you are having, maybe some people are unlucky, this is by far and away the best phone out there, however some people may have problems most of which by reading can be rectified.
Battery life on my phone now is excellent for a smartphone.
I also shifted from IPhone 4..and I must say there are a few things that the iPhone is better than the Sgs2..and I repeat.."a few"
Sorry to hear of your problems, except for the battery drain that you're facing, inthink the rest is something to do with your apps..maybe you should try a fresh install.
As for battery,I get up to 4 and half sometimes 5 hours of screen up time...depends on the usage, which to me is not bad..maybe the ip4 ups there a bit..
Anyhow,I'm totally satisfied and yes it fits my purpose..which are fast, stable and plenty of room to customize to my liking..which I couldn't do on the ip4..
If people want superior battery life be sure to root your phone (should be a pre-requisite) and freeze all the Samsung bloatware with Titanium Backup in particular Software Update.

Now this is useful information since i too am running the latest version of widget locker and am thinking that could also be the cause of the battery drain i explained a few posts back. Does any one know if there is an app on the market that can accurately log what process is using the most of battery. Stock battery log is not good enough, we need to go deeper?

Im really thinking it could be the widget locker. since a full day with light use is no problem to SGS2. I had 2 days on the stolen SGS2, but for some reason the replacement has started to act up and i also have the widget locker installed! Or then it's GO SMS, since i have that too. Or then theft aware, but i know you don't have that one.

Ok then here's what I would do: factory reset, don't reinstall any apps for a day, see how your phone is doing. Then reinstall apps one-by-one, making sure you leave some time in between installing each one to check if a specific one is causing battery drain.
Im using xperia arc as of now but im planning to buy sgs2 just for future proofing of a smartphone device..but im reading a lot of negative comments as to overheating aand yellowish tint on the screen and pinkish discoloration in the cam..or all u sgs2 users, can u comment with full honesty on ur device? Iys really my first choice..htc sensation will be my 2nd choice.. Will that overheating be fixed with a firmware upgrade? How bout the cam, battery and discoloration problem?
please please i need a smart and honest opinion..
► Well, I don't have any Overheating issues. I don't think there is any overheating issue if I am not wrong. Yes, it could be possible that some devices are damaged in manufacturing, but that's very few. Also keep in mind that the device will be heated if you play game for prolonged hours, if you play games while charging, if you put a bad/fully back covered case while charging/playing, but that doesn't mean Overheat. Always check Temperature of the battery before quoting it as 'Overheat', without a figure that term is meaningless.
► Pink spot in photos were a firmware related problem, which is gone away with new firmware releases. You could also try to update the Camera firmware separately.
► For Yellowish tint in display see this thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1079444
Besides, no device is perefect, each and every has their own problem, you just have to find a near perfect one, which I believe GSII is. You can go for Sensation too, then you'd have to visit XDA for much more time, as it will have more problem than GSII
Regards.
The only issues I have had is a broken USB port which I got a swapped out phone for, so no problem there.
The battery life is great as far as I am concerned even when moderately hammering the phone...4-6 hours of screen on time per charge depending upon what you are doing with it. It's only bad if you use badly coded apps installed I think.
Hardware issues such as a dodgy screen can easily be resolved by taking the phone back for a swap.
Software issues will all get sorted out with firmware updates I believe. Not that I really think there is much wrong.
People complaining on forums is a bad method of judging a phone, after all millions of people have the phone and there are relatively few real complaints on here.
I say go for it, you won't regret it, have had many phones by lots of different manufacturers and this is genuinely the first one I cannot stop playing with. It's a real life changer to be honest.
1. No yellow tint here, at least me and my friends can't see it on my phone even if it exists and general opinion is that it exists on every SII to a lesser or greater extent.
2. Pink spot on camera here, no matter which official firmware i updated with Kies, no matter what camera firmware i installed. It only pops up in certain conditions, that's why people say they don't have it or say it's fixed.
3. Overheating - depends on what one considers to be overheating. My battery temeprature never got past 48 % degrees, but this temperature feels hot for your fingers when touching the screen or back cover.
thanks for both of u guys...
implanning to buy maybe this last week of august..
in my xperia arc experience, i didnt encounter any overheating..in fact even when im playing need for speed or heavy gunnerm or gt racing which are my 3 fave games my phone dont event get warm...in charging, yes, but only for the first 30 mins i guess..
i feel it gets warm only when im using 3G when browsing..
i hope those problems as just an isolated issues...btw, im working ins saudi arabia as of now..im not sure about the latest firmware available here. i heard about gingerbread 2.3.4 already released for SGS2..is it already available in ur country or u still have to flash it yourself?
If your not in a rush maybe you could wait till the holidays, its rumored that a new andriod reference device ( the Nexus S ) will be out by that time, also a new Galaxy S line device for sure.
For the issues you posted:
1.) Overheating - Some phones seem to run hotter than others, ive been through a couple of replacements and this one I have runs hotter when gaming/surfing and also runs noticeably hotter when charging.
2.) Yellow tinting on the left side - Luck of the draw, if your buying the phone for its screen it might tick you off depending on how severe the issue is that you got on the phone, Using a 2.3.4 kernel alleviates this issue but the left side is a tad bit dimmer and is noticeable proportional to the yellow tint. Some users are not affected by this because they plainly dont see it (which is great) others have accepted this as a "normal" defect hence why samsung never rectified this issue. There are also legit QC issues on the screen refer to this
3.) Pink spot on camera - we dont really know if all phones are affected by Im guessing NOT due to the very low participation on the thread in XDA and also a very low or non existent internet media coverage about this, a very minor issue TBH.
4.) Battery Life - Its great, dont expect it to out last any netbook or laptop though.. I believe only the IP4 can outlast the battery on the S2 especially with wifi 24/7 with tons of IM and email apps.
i see no problems with mine .
love it in fact .

Honestly I have a lot of friends with iphones and the general consensus is that they get like 14 hours... Now maybe that is because they haven't updated or w.e but I just flashed the latest nightly and my battery life is really good so far... I expect to get 18 hours today.

Weird, I get at least a day from mine, moderate-heavy use..
Bought from T-Booth, unlocked from Bell to Rogers using an unlock service. Absolutely LOVE the device but the battery life is frustrating. With great power... comes great responsibility in keeping a charger with you. Apparently. lol.
I feel like everyone is being really picky when it comes to those issues, its just like the whole iPhone's antenna gate problem, it wasn't really a big problem because when i had the iPhone, i never dropped a call. I bet you that you wouldn't even notice the issues if you didn't read this forum

I have never tried the xperia Arc but between the SGS2 and Sensation, the choice is easy, SGS2. I have both and the Sensation is a real disappointment IMO

Lol, but you didn't have AT&T. You don't antenna gate for dropped calls with that network
Buying a new phone for futureproofing is always a bad solution. No matter what, there will ALWAYS be new and better technology in less than a year after (Moore's law applies here too)... when that is said, the SGS2 really is a good candidate for holding on to in the next couple of years. But don't buy a phone, and think it's futureproofed - it's NOT.
If it's shear power, then the SGS2 really is a good choice, forget about the Sensation... it's really not that good!! I will say that the SGS2 is the best phone, i have ever owned... and that is said very honestly!!
If it's shear design... keep your Arc, as it's a very nice phone, and very beautyfull to look at. It also has a good camera, which is slightly better than the 2 other phones, when it comes to taking pictures in the dark. And it has specs, that is okay, and apart from space for apps - it will stand it's grounds for some time yet. And when it can't cut the mustard anymore, the SGS3 will be out...
Tend to agree, you will future proof for about a month or two, with the rate that new android devices arrive the SGS2 will be out of date by Christmas, but that doesn't mean its forgotten, it will be one fast beast for quite some time until the quad cores arrive next year.
The only problem I have is the incredibly slow charging time even on the standard official mains charger.
No pink tint in camera, no or I cant see this screen yellow thing.
Why the need to upgrade from the Arc in the first place? I came from the Nokia 5800, and that thing is just too limited for my use for example. Good thing S2 came out just in time

Prob would of gone for galaxy s2 but it's almost as costly as my iPhone.
Had htc desire before And it put me off htc - not keen on build q and as with most Chinese/Korean stuff a lot of software bits were unfinished. And am I the only person who didn't like sense ui?
Had Nokia n8 - phenomenal camera and good display of what can be achieved with smaller CPU but sw was limited no doubt about it. Considered getting one in anticipation of belle release but ultimately I'd be climbing onboard a sinking ship.
Arc is cheap, it looks good, great cam, great pic facilities and Sony UI seems like only a minimal intrusion on the OS.
Ultimately if you peel back the design of the galaxy s2 and the arc the main diff is in ram and CPU but not so much it would make or break the Arc.
Arc seems very underrated in my opinion.
It arrives 2moro maybe I'll change my opinion but I hope not because on paper it seems to tick every box for me.
Thanks for listening.
Great choice. To be honest i upgraded from the arc to arc s within a month. Purely down the fact i liked the white colour. You are right, though the device can be improved abit, it is under rated. On the contrary the iphone overrated. I had a play around with it for a week. I liked it but not as much as the arc/s. I have taken amazing pictures, sound is awesome. Battery life is for me great. 12+ hours with medium to heavy usage and all ive done is root and remove bloatware...implement v6 supercharger for extra smoothness. Ive also got link2sd but you said you dont use a lot of apps but id still recommended as with android apps you might get carried away
Hope this helps for reassurance that youve made the right choice

It does help thank you.
iPhone is overrated and now I'm outside of that apple/iOS frame of mind it's quite obvious to me.
The antenna issue is a pain in the balls (I know I should get a bumper) especially since I'm in a fringe signal area.
Ability to share (or rather not so) media is a big kneecapping of design
Lack of 'real' customisation - even just to set a custom ringtone eg.
Looking at it objectively it (iPhone ethos) completely goes against what I look for in a phone yet I was sucked in.
Make no mistake, i can be positive about it - it's a joy to behold (though IS starting to look its age)
It's fast, it DOES work in the way it's intended, iTunes store integration on the phone for me as a music lover is brilliant. It's gallery capabilties are generally pretty good. Email functionality for purely email is great.
But it isn't for me.
Lock screen notifications on iphone are very good.. and it does do what it does very well.. but the Arc does almost all of it just as well.. and many other things much better too!
I couldn't go back to iphone either.
Check out my 50 things the Arc S can do, the iPhone 4s can't thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1469028
Arc S is a great phone and very underrated. Root, remove bloatware, install a few cheap or even free apps ..... and voila ...... an absolutely cracking phone at half the price of thu iphone.
Happy days
Got it, love it but sending it back.
Out of the box (literally) it started randomly rebooting. I thought it was first time start up procedure but it contines, in fact typing this whilst it's sat in standby next to me and it's just rebooted on its own.
Formatted SD, reset factory setts 3 times, took SD out and tried diff sim but just reboots randomly, sometimes at 30 secs of use sometimes two minutes - no pattern.
Getting a replacement, not deterred as def seems HW fault.
Minimal time Ive been able to use it and it seems great
Can't get it collected till Monday tho will continue to update once replaced.
Cheers.
The arc is VERY underrated. I had never heard of it until I started looking for a phone with a great camera. I live in the USA though, which is why I had never heard of it before (good to see Sony finally bringing high end xperia phones to the USA now though).
My previous phone was a galaxy nexus. Only thing good about it is ics. The camera, speaker, etc are absolutely terrible and caused me to go look for a new phone, which led me to the arc.
Honestly? The arc s blows away the nexus in every single hardware category. I can't believe how great the camera and speaker are on this phone. And the screen is the best I've ever seen outdoors. It even looks better than the nexus super amoled HD screen.
I'm also surprised at how light the Sony skin is in comparison to other manufacturer skins. It actually improves gingerbread. Can't wait to see it with ics.
All I know is I'm sticking to Sony phones now. And yes, I've also owned iPhones (3 of them) and will never go back after switching to Android.
