Is there any way to use the finger print scanner other than its designated way. Such as scrolling up and down websites? Or is it impossible?

this would be sick
You know i never thought of using the scanner for other uses but what a great idea!!!
Would be great as a trackball replacement....even though it would probably be just up and down...
Seems like lots could be done with it if it was possible...
Good thread idea! =)
that sounds like what moto used to have. the backtrack thing that was on some earlier android phones with motoblur.

Indeed it is. All you need is some java experience. If it's not too difficult, I may do it myself! I need to brush up on my java anyways for pre college credit.
Edit: thought about it a bit longer, may not be the same implementation you think making it a bit hardet. Since I don't have access to a computer for three more days, ill think about it a while longer.

We should also come up with a cm7 compatible app since the stock one doesn't work

Not to be disheartening but I think that the fingerprint sensor isn't always on as it is so if you do what you want it will probably be at the cost of battery power although I'm not exactly sure how much it would affect it if even at all.

Has anyone tried?

Indeed.
Also FP is something totally new in all phones. And don't know if there is a function that detects in which way you are moving your finger.
FP Sensor its like a camera, that it took pictures when a finger slides on it.
Eg when the phone is locked with screen on, it is activated, and when it detects a finger, it pictures it.
Good luck if somebody makes it!

I'm gonna say no. there is no open access to the fingerprint sdk from motorola which has made it difficult to use for non-moto apps such as widget locker. it's difficult just to enable the fp scanner on outside apps, accessing its functionality further is even less likely.

The fingerprint scanner is made my Authentec and the SDK is freely available from them. http://developers.authentec.com/
However, I doubt that it exposes which direction the finger was swiped, and I'm pretty sure it's only on when the screen is waiting to be unlocked.
I had a Toshiba laptop with fingerprint scanner which supported scrolling. But it is possible it scans more than 1 line at once so it would know which direction you are sliding. I doubt that would be the case with the Atrix one but would love to be proven wrong
Is there any way to do this? I think it looks really ugly. Im on cm7 ics mod2

Don't use FP......................Problem solved!
Fingerprint sensor isn't currently supported by CM7, it's best to disable it.

OP maybe you would be willing to try WidgetLocker. WL is a paid app but many people prefer it to other lockscreens, it supports fingerprint scanner and is very customizable.
I have used WidgetLocker and it is a great app. Great customization. There is also GOLocker or WP7 Locker. Both free and offer something different than a stock lock screen. It just depends on your preferences.
I use the CM7 lock screen with rings and a custom background. Disabled all things to do with the FP sensor. It was nice at first but now is more a gimmick as not even Motorola is trying to support it anymore.

You could start by posting in the right section.
Then add a link to the feature you're requesting.

Im not a dev so i cant do it but here are some possible work arounds. You could assign take screenshot to one of the gestures in Apex Launcher so pinching in or two finger swipe would do it. Or I have it assigned in my navbar ring (i think most JB ROMS have this) its close to a gesture I just swipe up from the navbar and it takes a screen cap. Hope that at least gives you something similar until you can work out a real port.

Since this is going to be my first phone with on screen buttons which I consider a stupid idea I am wondering what can we go with this back bar embeded at the bottom of the screen, Can we make it smaller?, will it be removed in games? Can we add extra buttons or ever widgets to it? Maybe ever make it pages so when you swipe over it it will reveal a rss feed or something. Any ideas on what can be done to make it helpful rather than a hinderance

Once custom roms start rolling out you will be able to change the DPI of the bar.
AOKP i expect will support this feature as they do in current JB Roms
Why don't you like them? I think they're great.

Hello Guys,
I was wondering if there's any Good and Less Irritating Fingerprint Security app for S5?
I need to lock some Apps like WhatsApp so what's are the Best options?
With cool features.. I tried using an app FingerSecurity (or similar) it was sort of irritating.. Because if my Device gets locked while using WhatsApp and i open the lock with Fingerprint.. Then it again prompts me to put Finger Print and when i scan again.. Nothing happens..
Please help me out.. And yeah my device is not rooted.

I don't think there are any apps for FingerPrint Security. If there is I wouldn't even trust that app. It's a good chance it's fake, or it can take your idenity.
Samsung should do it!

This is not true. Apps that use Samsungs fingerprint scanner don't get your fingerprint. The only get to know if the fingerprint is one of the fingerprint that are registerd.
Also Samsung does not save a fingerprint but a hash.

I would not give my fingerprint to an app either
