problem with vibrant need help - Vibrant General

hey guys, ive never really had any issues far as flashing rom on my phone, ive always just figured things out on my own without the need to ask a question however this one baffles me....
last night i flashed nero v5 over axura 2.2.6, no issues with that the phone rebooted, i let it sit about 10 mins rebooted no problems still so i started setting up the phone like i like it, well the first issue was the market wouldnt download anything at all period, so i reflashed, same thing, i then tried to go to back to axura at which went fine until the phone booted up and is stuck at the devsforandroid splash screen
now naturally the thing to do is hold volume up and volume down plus power get into download mode and odin to stock well heres my dilemma...
my volume up button hasnt worked for a few weeks, not sure why, its just stopped working one day.
is there a way to get into download mode while stuck in a boot loop with the volume button broken?
thanks for any help

well for me to get into download mode i dont hold the power button... i know you said your volume button doesnt work, but try taking out the battery, put it back in, hold both volume buttons down, while holding the vol buttons plug in the usb cord to the phone... BUT HAVE ODIN READY TO GO BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING... try doing that if not your gonna have to use adb and thats something im not very familiar with at all...

The above post is right you can also try just holding the down volume button and then while holding it down, plug in the usb cord, make sure you have odin up and ready if it sees then, you are good to go, (it should) You could also use the jig (see the bible for this) once you get the little android with a shovel you can odin back to stock

If you know how to use adb you can type "reboot download mode" and it should reboot into it. Ya I dont ever use the power button when I get into dl mode but hell if your volume buttons aren't all working then I dont know.

is there a tutorial on this anywhere? i have never used adb never had any use for it i guess until now...
ive also switched to sprint and got the evo 4g, so should i not be able to fix the vibrant i guess ill sell it to whomever can fix it for cheap
p.s. not that anyone cares but when i swtiched carriers i was discussing the samsung epic with him about the update problems we face with the vibrant, and he showed me that in their monthly employee playbook they just got for next month (february), the epic is in it to recieve the foryo update (some time in february),i read it and it didnt say specifically 2.2 or 2.2.1 just froyo, but like always whos know if itll happen or not, probably not but its what he showed me

Behold 2

I was wondering if anyone is working on a way to fully root the Behold 2. I tried the temporary root tutorial but seeing how fastboot cannot be accessed I was curious if there has been progress made or is it totally unrootable
Eric
Yeah i'm working on it without a behold 2 at the monent
I have 2 or 3 ideas which i'm sure will work. I'll have more when i finally get rid of my galaxy and get a behold 2
I will keep my fingers crossed on you getting a Behold 2. I was going to take my Behold 2 back to T-Mobile and go back to the MyTouch 3G but I cant see getting rid of a device when there is soooo much potential for it. Plus having the AMOLED screen and the 5MP camera helps too.
Eric
don't forget 320mb ram!! even more than any other HTC phone right now.
The Behold II is nice, I have one, anything I can do to help let me know, I am very eager to root this thing and get rid of touch wiz.
u can install open home which should do it for now.
Thats already done, but there is still the taint of touchwiz.. wonderful phone, horrible UI.
Yeah I had Open Home on it as well but earlier today I purchased GDE from the market and am really digging this home replacement.
Eric
Found this by accident, cant figure out how to do it again. was trying to get into recovery mode.
Awesome. So it can be accessed somehow. that is VERY good news
Eric
Interesting!
You can flash the recovery through Odin too, but its restored on the next boot.
Fastboot mode
Ok so I have been able to reproduce it now, this is how I am getting into fastboot, have your usb cable plugged into your computer then plug it into the phone, very quickly press vol down + send + power. thats it, the part i was missing was the usb cable timing, it appears to be required, this is of course from a powered off state.
GREAT I just tried this and it WORKS yessssss.... someone wanna try rc29
I keep trying to get this, and all it does is bring me to recovery whether I hold or briefly press volume down, send, and power.... any suggestions?
It's powered off, plug in usb cable, quickly press buttons, and I get recovery... no fastboot for me
EDIT:GOT IT!!!!! Seems after trying in order volume down, send, power I wasn't able to get it, however, I just tried, send, volume down, power in that order and it worked!
no no no .,.,..
power off wait 5 sec's
plug usb in and immediately press volume down, send, and power
I think the reboot issue is caused by a scan in an init script or something like that..
To solve this issue I would have to look deeper into it, a quicker way would be to find someone who knows java.
He could write an app which starts itself on boot_completed and executes the root command.
I was looking at exactly that Getting there...
Getting there.
hehe, cant wait.
man i sure hope someone figure out how soon, i love this phone
This guy found a work around for the samsung moment ,,, which suffers the same reboot issue...

My vibrant is totally bricked

Unable to turn it on. totally bricked
So... Are you unable to turn it on due to no fingers?
Lol yea what happened?
Well, we need a bit more info.

1. have you tried "power button" ?
2. have you charged the phone ?
on a bright side, you are the 1st one !
Maybe your battery is loose? Not to mention that bricking a
phone is usually due to screwing up a software flash. So, is brick really the right word?

LOL!!
Try holding down the volume down button as you turn the phone on...see if that does anything.
Only time I'd allow the "First" comment to be used in a thread.
Im guessing CW Recovery...
Thank you guys
I think it's bricked, and unrecoverable.
After several flashing, It suddenly turned off then never woke up again. Any effort so far is hopeless

I tried with captivate stock firmware, i9000 international firmware, then I flash back to vibrant stock firmware.
After had things done with Odin, my phone restarted, and it was the last time I saw my baby working as a smart phone.

If you are stuck on the phone to PC screen, you are NOT bricked. During development, I ended up getting into this state a couple times myself. You can still get into download mode in the same fashion.
Connect your phone to USB so you get the phone->PC screen. Press and hold both volume up/down. Then press and also hold Home. Then start pressing and holding power for 2 seconds. After 2 seconds, let go of power. Continue holding volume up, volume down, and home, until you get into download mode.

no, a completely blank screen.
no icon, no GUI, no nothing (
Yeah, weird...I just flashed back to US firmware and now my phone is totally unresponsive to everything. Keep in mind I've flashed back and forth several times...even once thought my phone was bricked because the power button wouldn't even turn the screen on. But after holding the correct buttons it finally booted into download mode. I was even using my phone earlier just fine, and having it run quadrant test of 1700, but as soon as I flashed back to 100% stock US firmware, my phone now no longer boots. Go figure lol.
Though this time I think it has bit the dust for real, lol. So be weary of flashing back to US firmware if you are flashing a lot of different other firmwares. Cuz I think something happens and the key combinations get deleted so it refuses to boot into any mode.

I"m at the phone to pc screen..but the Home button is not a "button" it's a touch sensitive button on my vibrant and it won't go into download mode...
I got here because i flashed the custom kernel to put the market and data on a ext4 partition...and it reversed my volume buttons and reversed the routing of sound..headphone speaker..that stuff....so i couldn't hear anything...so when i went to reflash stock t-mobile firmware it told me not to unplug for like hours..it wasn't doing anything.....i took the battery out and now i'm stuck at phone to pc...i think i might just use the warranty..seeing as u can't do a think with it...atleast i can't that is..i feel like a moron...
the forum said to work on com7 but com4 was showing up in odin...i couldn't get it to go on com7 so i thought it should still work....

what was your combination?
I hold volume up and down..then hold home with those..then power for 2 seconds..let go and nothing...it doesn't recognize i'm holding the home because it's a software based button..the home key that is..and with no software...no button...so i'm afraid this screen means bricked...adb reboot download won't work either...i'm gunna get it exchanged in the morning..under buyers remorse..

help i9000 after flash, doing loop of at&t logo, can not enter download mode,
when plugged in screen goes black.
!! if anyone can help please do not hesitate, mostly appreciated.
Try to hold the Down+Menu+Power combination while INSERTING the battery into the device.
i try that seem to have no response and when unplugged from usb it loop at&t logo
or plugged in usb screen goes black and no response seem from pressing buttons
I had a similar problem as most phones in Canada seem to have Download/Recovery mode disabled, and here is what worked for me.
Grab something like One Click Un Root (all models), and click one click un root (obviously phone has to be on and plugged into the computer).
This should automatically reboot you into Recovery Mode!
All you have to do is "wipe data/factory default" or something like that (should be the third option).
As it states, you will loose all your data, but at least you will have a functionning phone!
did it work?
Hi. I have similar problem. Can anybody give instruction what can I do?
I have this problem too. Please help somebody
Add me to the list. Bell Galaxy S, went to unlock my phone the screen went black. Now it will not boot into the OS, the galaxy S splash screen displays then nothing. The menu and back button light up, thats all. ****[email protected]@
I have not rooted or anything.
Of course my download mode does not work.. Going to try this one click root thing if I can find it.
NOT HAPPY
This is not working. Probably because the phone is not in USB debugging mode as I can't change it... Is there any other way to get the phone into recovery mode?
**** me
i had the same thing happen to me the other day with my bell galaxy s and my phone wont do the 3 button combo trick. i left my phone plugged in to a wall charger for a while until the back of the phone became a little warm. i pulled the battery and then left the power cord plugged in and put the battery back in. i held the volume down and enter button until the battery charging indicator showed up, then i also pressed and held the power button until the boot animation started (this is the blue moving swirl and music, not the galaxy s splash scree) and then i let go of the power button. it took a few attempts at this before it actually worked, but eventually it will go into download mode at which time you can open the odin app, then plug in the usb cable and flash your phone that way. it did seem to make a difference if the back of the phone (around the camera area) was warm. if i let go of the power button while the music was playing and the phone did not enter download mode i would keep all 3 buttons pressed until it shut down again, then i would only let go of the power button while the phone initiated the charging screen, then once the battery logo was displayed i would hold the 3 buttons again and would just keep doing this until it went into download mode. i have flashed it at least 5 times today and i have been able to do this each time.
i also had an issue where odin would not recognize my phone was plugged in and windows would show a message saying the usb device was not recognized. i left the phone plugged in and while in download mode i pressed the volume up, enter button and power button until the phone went blank and when the galaxy s logo showed up i let go of the power button and the phone would go into recovery mode and then the usb drivers would be installed. i would then do the 3 button combo for download mode and odin would work fine. it took several attempts but it does work. i hope this helps you guys
If I hold all three buttons the splash screen does not come on, it just keeps looping the Galaxy S logo until I let go of the power button....

That's what mine did too, several times in a row and then it worked. For some reason it only works after the battery is charging for a bit and the back becomes warm. then it works at will
No luck. I am probably screwed getting it exchanged now too as I am passed the 14 days from Best Buy.
the on click thing doesn't work, if your phone is already bricked.
also it is not the phone's fault for not working, the phone was working properly before you tried the hacks.
whenever you do these kind of things you know you are entering into the "not supported" "not covered by warranty" zone.
in the worse case scenario, if you can no enter download mode to recover your phone, it'll be to take the phone back to bell and claim warranty on it, and prentent you don't know what happened to it.

Its my fault??
I did not hack my phone. Its not rooted, I did nothing to it.
By "unlock" I meant exactly that, unlock as in swiping the screen to unlock it.
The more I search the net the more posts I find of Galaxy S phones randomly bricking...
on the original message sounded more like you went to Unlock the phone, as in SIM unlock the phone using any of the tools available out there, and there has been already several people which had the same problem.
if you go back to Bell for an exchange, you better not use the word "unlock" rather use Swipe
as the message on the phone "swipe the screen to unlock"
there are no known issue about this causing the phone to brick.
if that is what happened to you, you should have started a new topic for people to help you, instead of hijacking the topic from the OP, as your issue is different from OP, the OP actually screwed up because he/she flashed the wrong ROM to the i9000
... anyways, Does it work if you reboot the phone?
I have rebooted the phone about 100 times. The phone crashed when I unlocked it to check a text I received. (not hacked). Has not booted up properly since. I have found many others with the same issue who have also not hacked/rooted/unlocked/ their phones.
Waiting on Best Buy to call me back. I am so pissed right now, I have been bragging to my friends and co-workers how awesome this phone is, one has already picked one up, I hope his doesn't brick too. Not recommending it to anyone anymore..
did you load a lot of MP3 to the phone?
can you boot into Recovery Mode?
in the recovery mode you can wipe the Cache and wipe the data
that should make your phone work normal again
it'll be best to open a topic to help you trouble shoot your interesting issue, as it's the first i've hear that you get a black screen after Swiping out of the lock screen
I can't get into recovery mode. I have tried every button combination I have found. I had about 2 GB of music on the phone. I also installed the Android SDK to try ADB, but since the phone is not in USB debugging mode it does not see it.

on the other topics relating to the 3 button not working.
have you tried the heating up method?
or the plugging the battery in, when all 3 buttons are pressed? (of course for this one you will need help from a friend, unless you are very skilled at keeping the 3 button on hold meanwhile able to slide in the battery in with out a 3rd hand)

Boots but wont load.

So my buddy seems to have bricked his phone. Not sure what he did, but the phone will boot up to Galaxy S i9000m screen, then it has sound with the S symbol coming together, flashes the S for about 20 seconds and finally goes black and thats it. 3 button recovery or Download mode dont work. Ive tried hooking it to odin wont see it. If I hook it to a charger the battery symbol does come on and it charges. I built a jig using a 301k resistor across pins 4 and 5, it doesnt seem work, however sure I am the jig is set up correctly it doesnt seem to work on my functioning phone either.???
Anyone have this similar problem and fix it? Any thoughts?
Thanks Ryan
Your buddy has flashed some different boot loaders on the phone it sounds like. Try holding power and volume down and see if that gets you to download mode, if not search around the i900 forums for different key combos

Sounds like gb bootloaders....
Its volume up hold and power for download mode
And vulume down and power for recovery mode
Thanks guys....I tried all sorts of button combos all weekend and nothing worked. I pretty much gave up. So this afternoon Im cleaning up my truck, and came across my original jig that I made up last week, that never worked....looked at it and thought huh too bad. Ahh Ill plug it in one more time his phone was sitting there in my truck....boom download mode...holy crap....felt like I just hit the jackpot. Drove straight home grapped my computer, hooked up to Odin, recognized....flashed it and now its rocking gingerbread 2.3.5 jvt with kg3 modem and csc. Rooted thanks to chainfire. My buddys so happy its been bricked for 4 months. Some cell fix company couldnt even fix it. Last time he had it he was still on 2.1 Eclair.
Thanks to who ever came up with this jig.
Persistance pays off.

Samsung galaxy s7 edge wont get passed the att logo screen.. HELP

Iv done all i could find on here to do, please heop me get my phone to boot up!!!
Perhaps you should give a bit more info. What were you doing before you got this issue. Were you updating, are you*rooted, what version of firmware and whose network are you on.
Sorry, I am rooted and I am with att, it was Working fine until I tried to put xposedon it , after I did that it went into this boot loop. I used Odin to root and it rooted fine and still worked. Then I attempted to put xposedon and it messed it up. I'm on att and 6.0.1. Let me know if you need to know anything else. Thank you
Tried goin back to factory
I also tried using Odin to go back to the original firm ware, now maybe I did something wrong but I t failed everytime I did it. Any help would be appreciated
When the same thing happened to me, I was stuck/frozen on the AT&T logo screen, I left the phone to drain all the way down. When it finally drained the battery and shut down, I was able to plug in the phone to my computer and get back to the download screen. I let it charge up a little bit, then I Odin'd it back to stock (PI2). I have since been unable to root again, but the same thing happened before. It was a couple months before I tried rooting again. At that time, I was successful. Someone else may have a more elegant solution.

Couldn't you just have tried a manual reboot? Just hold power and volume hardware keys for 12 seconds. Once it resets enter into download mode.

I don't believe that but I guess it may be possible and the hard restart buttons are power and volume down for about 10 seconds, seems like an eternity before it reboots lol.
