[Q] keyboard and touchscreen as mouse for remote controlling pc? >not remote desktop<
Hello,
I'm a total noob regarding to software for WM6.5, but i wondered, is there some kind of program that allows me to use my phone's keyboard and touchscreen as keyboard / mouse for my desktop? Would be nice for my plasma tv with desktop connected to it..
Thanks in advance.
Bouke

I use this
I use GRemote. It's a client-server program. One part runs on your PC, the other on your WM or Android phone. I think there's a free and a Pro version, not sure, might just be the paid version (which I have) and it's *AWESOME*, I use it just like you'd mentioned - I have my PC hooked up to my HDTV as a HTPC/media center, and I can use my phone as a trackpad, air/gyro mouse, hardware keyboard, media remote, generic remote, and gyro joystick/racing wheel/etc for gaming. It can connect over WiFi or BT. I don't want to sound like I'm going to marry it or anything but it is a pretty awesome program. The media remote functions work with Winamp, WMP, XBMC, VLC, others.
EDIT: Sorry, got so hot and bothered talking about the program, forgot to mention the website. It's at gbmsoftware dot com.

***Bluetooth and IR Remotes***

I may be completely off my rocker here but is there a way to use the Bluetooth or IR on my wizard to control lets say... windows media player on my computer? Or change channels on a tv?
Are there any programs out there that are written for this kind of application? Thanks for the help in advance.
I have an old PDA iPAQ with no phone capability but it had an app
called NEVO which controlled anything IR like TVs and DVD players
but I've not seen anything yet on an xda.
I'll keep my eyes open.
Call for Wizard IR Remote software!
You might be thinking of NoviiRemote from Novii http://novii.tv
So far their product does not support the Wizard despite repeated attempts (from multiple wizard owners) to get an idea of when it will... they keep saying "they're working on it" but have been saying that since Oct. 2005.
FWIW, I've tested the following competing "universal remote" applications and couldn't get any to work on the Wizard:
- Vivo Remote
- Universal RemoteCE
- UltraMote
- Total Remote (locked the Wizard... had to remove battery)
- Remote Control II (big time failure, couldn't find images)
- TV remote controller (says no Wizard support on homepage)
- NoviiRemote =(
Each were installed to Storage Card (1 at a time). All of them didn't seem find the IR hardware, with error codes varying from non-existent to not even running / crashing. Nearly all the apps would not uninstall cleanly (running WM5 v1.6.8 WWE) had to manually remove.
Clearly there is an opportunity for someone here... there is no competition on Wizards, all this someone has to do is support the OMAP hardware and Wizard users will come running.
Any takers? =)
No he's thinking of NEVO (http://www.mynevo.com/), I too have NEVO bundled on my HP IPaq RX3715 and it's a very slick program, it used to be that you could only get it bundled but I believe they're starting to sell it as a stand alone product now.
The problem with this remote software is that to use it effectively you have to make sure that the IR type built into your device is cIR rather than the more common sIR etc as they have pretty drastic differences in their ranges. So you can get software but if you have sIR then you'll need to be on top of the TV to change the channel.

there is a beta version of novii remote that works on the wizard, its available in there forum.
range is over 2 meters which isn't too bad. i'll post a link if I can find it

edit: heres the link http://www.novii.tv/up/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2667
Yes Novii does indeed work but dont expect the same kind of response as an ipaq. They are fitted with commercial grade ir which works more like a normal remote. The wizard ir has to be lined up directly with the ir receiver.
Its much quicker to get up and change the channel
true but it is fun to turn the sound up on tv's on display in shop windows or inside stores

Which of the services do you use? They offer a few of them and they aren't free.
Do you use this software to control your pc for functions like play and pause your windows media player or winamp? thanks
I found something here... i dont know how well it works...

I know Salling Clicker works great on my Treo. Have not purchased it for Windows Mobile 5 yet. Still I would give it a try. Via bluetooth it controls your medai player, itunes, power point and lets your PDA function as track pad.

I've been lookng for something similar too. Here's the ultimate program for just that. I've used it before for my Palm 650 and didn't realize they made it for PPC as well.
I've just made buttons for WMP and it works like a charm. Connects through IR, Serial port, or WIFI so there's no distance problem. Pebbles program lets you control your computer or programs running on your computer. Try it out, its free and probably one of the best programs that you can configure everything on your own!

As wilesd mentioned, there is a free version, you just have to hunt for it. I use LogMeIn remote, and paid $1000 for 25 clients, but that's less than half the price of the best price I was quoted for GoToMyPC for an equivalent set of user licenses. GoToMyPC is the only other GUI software I found that works, but the WM5 version of LogMeIn is faster than GoToMyPC.
You could easily control WMP or winamp remotely, although logging in to do so will take a few minutes. I'm not sure if this is a solution that would work for you, as it is an IP-based solution... not exactly the kind of 'remote' in which you seem interested.
remoteamp
i use remoteamp, its a nice prog and it controlls Winamp and Media player via Wifi. and you can see al the files on you PDA for scrolling and so.
good app.

The Best Xperia BT Remote Control Software

Mobile remote is awesome. I have used since it was out and decided to buy it right away.
It connects to my pc in about 2 seconds and I can start using it right away. I love not having to get up to pause my media player .
I can't believe that haven't provide this asROM incorporated application... If K800i have it.. why X1 doesn't....
Is there any free app of this sort.. that support BT HID protocol?

By the way, comparing the K800i to the Xperia is like comparing apples and pears
Just tried Mobileremote - seems to be a bit screwy landscape/portrait are reversed and the hardware keyboard has permanent numlock on when used on X1
still just about usable though
You're right... but on my old K800i BT HID protocol worked for free... and perfectly well ..

Coming to Windows Mobile after being a longstanding Sony Ericsson feature phone user, it's really surprised me how truly COMPLETE the SE ui was! It had SO many great tools built right in that Windows Mobile even struggles with, and it's a smartphone OS! I could be happy if they just made the SE A200 interface touch-enabled (a nice qwerty maybe ), because I miss so many nicely implemented features they had!
i would suggest using this:
http://www.jaylee.org/RemoteControl/
it's free and it let's you control most media applications and what's cool about is it that it allows you to use the x1 touchscreen as a touchpad of a notebook computer to control the mouse pointer and tap to left click. unfortunately it cannot right-click. it doesn't accurately input the proper characters either while using the physical keyboard, but the onscreen keyboard works just fine with it.

Xmbc remote software

Dont know if anybody is familiar with XMBC but what iam looking for, well found but for iphone is a remote control app. There are some out there but i really like the look of http://remote.collect3.com.au/ . Its the GUi i like. Any body know of something similar for WM
Cheers
Take look here. This is working on MY tp2.
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=68330
And here are the latest SVN's for the old XBOX.
http://t3ch.yi.se/
@purple8:
There's quite a few out there; also one called XMOTE. Pinged the dev and he informs me that he's working on a update which will also support the Apple iPad - suggest dropping him a note indicating your interest ... might motivate him further.
@mike2nl:
Have you tested this on a Gen1 XBOX with XBMC (ex: XBMC-SVN_2010-08-31_rev30587-T3CH) with a large audio library?
Keep us posted on the developments of this ... awesome find!
Been looking for an XBMC Remote for quite some time which would allow full control of XBMC without having to be in front of a screen. The Web GUI is fine but lacks much functionality - primarily because no one has really put time into improving it.
Cheers,

I think GRemote Pro has XBMC support. The free version might have it too, not sure. It also works with VLC, WMP, WinAmp, Boxee, and more. The GUI has options for gyroscopic mouse control, trackpad control, keyboard control, number-pad control, media remote control, joypad control etc. The Pro version isn't freeware, and the GUI is different, but it's a sweet app. Connects over WiFi or BlueTooth. There's a client that goes on your WM or Android phone, and a server that gets run on your home computer. Hope the info helps.

TP2 as a Remote keboard??

Hi,
I was thinking to buy a Logitech dinovo keyboard for my HTPC
http://ces.cnet.com/i/bto/20080104/lifestlyerichblog_540x360.JPG
... but then I wounderd if there is any application for WM6.5 that could use bluetuth to control a PC keybord.
I know i could use RDP client on my phone but then I get the screen on the phone as well..
I just want to use my TP2 as a keyboard remote to a Win7 PC with wifi or bluetouth..
Is this possible, does it exist a program for this?
Look for gremote .cab or also nueUSBKeyboard.
Both of these are located in this thread under Utilities. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550973
I have tried the latter and it is what it is...just a keyboard through USB. Gremote I gave a shot...but was having trouble getting my Bluetooth to work on my PC...my issues not the program.
Touch Pro 2 as remote BT Keyboard
I saw an app (believe it or not) on the Windows Mobile Marketplace for $1.99
called MobileRemote that does exactly what you are looking for including mouse functions.
It uses BlueTooth to connect as an HID Keyboard.
It's from MobileSRC.
Cheers
You might look into GRemote, it does everything. However, just at tip, if you buy any keyboard software that uses Bluetooth, make sure you test the trial version first. I know quite a few of the mouse/keyboard programs don't work on the Rhodium because of the Widcomm Bluetooth stack used instead of the Microsoft Bluetooth stack.
Wow, Thanks everybody!!
Now I have some things to tryout in the weekend..
Cheers!
Gremote works best over WiFi. I use it daily on my media center and love it. I'm planning on buying the paid version soon.
BRETT
I love GRemote, but it's sad that the computers that I'd use them on the most (work and school PCs) don't allow me to install the necessary software!
Wow Gremote was everything I wanted!
Works great with XMBC and Aeon skin
Thanks!
Ah man..u guys suck..now I gotta try wifi with gremote
gremote is working over wifi...however I cannot use any of the menus or settings on host PC. Is this a Trial limitation or something wrong with the install?
I can open settings program from taskbar...but nothing further.
wifi on my TP2 to a Win7 x64 works fantastic.... Playing around for some hour and now a get use to use it like a normal mouse.
one thing that is anoying is that gremote on the tp2 always turn on BT,, cant find any way to disable it
I am using it to type and tether. I can feel the waves killing my brain cells but, it feels good. lol I might have to fork up the 14 bucks to pay for the full service just to get the annoying demo message to go away. now if only I could get it to work on my Xbox 360. hmmmm jk
the app rocks!
oh... but i did find one problem. when typing using hardware keyboard; I can't seem to get the touchpad to work. or any of the control buttons. "DEL, TAB, CTRL, ALT" anyone know what is up with that?

Use N1 as touchpad for PC running VNC

I am looking for an app that will allow me to use my N1 as a basic touchpad for my PC running VNC. I hap an app for my iPad that did just this, but I had to sell my iPad. It worked flawlessly, had multitouch gestures for scrolling, forward/back, etc. The app for my iPad was free, and I'm hoping to find one that is free for Android as well. I've done a lot of searching, and all I can find are apps that $3+ or ones that require some other server side software and don't work with VNC. I was recently fired from my job of ten years and my right hand is broken(I'm right handed BTW) so free is preferable, I'd be willing to pay $1.00 even. I don't need keyboard support, just mouse with buttons, drag/drop, multitouch would be nice too. My phone is rooted and running CM7, if that helps any.
Not sure about compatability with VNC, but Gmote works pretty nicely though you do have to install SW. I have a HTPC in my bedroom and sometimes it is just easier to control using my phone when lying down.
Saw that, it doesn't use VNC. Whatever I'm looking for needs to be using VNC.
gmote 2.0 works pretty well, you just have to install a server on your computer which is pretty easy. in-app instructions are given after you dl it from the market.

As I stated in the OP and my last reply, I don't want to install another piece of software. I want to use VNC. If it was done on iOS device for free, then it's bound to exist for Android as well for free or cheap.

lllullzz i just asked him about the exact same thing two posts above haha
Have you tried Gmote? (sorry, couldn't resist. It is really good though)
I haven't really found anything that doesn't require additional software on top of your VNC software. The closest thing I can think of would be another VNC program. I personally use android-vnc-viewer which works great, but again it's just a straight VNC program.
why would you want to do it via vnc that transmits video when you can use gmote and send the mouse co-ordinated via touchpad directly to the server running on the computer, seems like ur buy the tea factory just for 1 cuppa

I don't want full video of my desktop, this is the app I had on my iPad that did just what I'm asking for here. I thought it was free, but I guess I had forgoten that it wasn't. In any case, it made my iPad into a grey surface that I could use with my PC like a touchpad, but it worked via VNC.
Hey, have you tried Gmote? I use it as home and it works pretty well.

So I broke down and tried gmote, it sucks, lags badly, no multitouch. I saw other apps that have multitouch, but I'm still back to the fact that I don't need some other piece of crap running in the background just for this when I know it can be done with VNC. If it can be done on iOS, I know it can be done on Android, just wish I were a programer so I could do it myself.

Unified Remote
You could try the 'Unified Remote' app for Android (but it requires a server-side application to run on the PC).
The touchpad part works awesomely, and Unified Remote will work via Bluetooth or Wifi/3G.
There are also 'plugin' remotes that work for other situations, like Youtube remote, Windows Media Player remote, keyboard, VLC remote, etc...
I can't remember where I heard it from but I heard gmote works good.
