Hello
Over the last eight months I have been afraid to root my phone, but finally manned up and rooted and went with cm6
So my question is this...what are some must have apps for me to get the ultimate performance out of my phone? Any specific launchers, battery apps etc...

In my experience, using applications and mods don't work well for me and don't seem to ever have a positive effect on my phone for performance/battery.
One thing I will tell you NOT to do, and it is a common thing, is use a Task Killer. They don't help improve battery life as some say. It's actually argued that it makes it worse.
You can try turning JIT on, and if it's stable for you, then that is supposed to help performance.
(Settings > CM Settings > Performance > Enable JIT) Requires reboot.
A must have is collins_ph battery tweak, getting ridiculous battery life with his tweak (100 or so hours)
Few of my favorites, chrome to phone, voice actions and adb wireless
I do use task killer but autokill is off, I use it when an app freezes
+ 1 on chrome to phone and voice actions. And it's not froyo our even root specific, but awesome drop is a must have as well, I think anyways. Also, I couldn't live without swype or google voice.

+1 Though I'm not a big poster on these forums, I read constantly everyday and am ALWAYS tinkering with different roms, kernels, settings, etc. First and foremost, are you using CM6 or CM6 RC1? I would suggest RC1 if your not already on it. I have been on and off the task killer bandwagon but currently don't use any kind of task management. I don't feel its necessary on froyo and have had good success without it.
Flash google gaaps if you dont have them already if you need gmail and such.
My must haves are ROM Manager, Wireless tether, Beautiful widgets, Chrome to phone, Handcent and as for a browser I use Xscope. X scope is nice cause it has a decent file manager built in, a task manager,(Which I dont use) Download-able themes and a bunch of other goodies as well. OH And I cant forget doodle jump! LOL!
I also am using the Decad3nce V8 kernel but unless you know what your doing I would stay with the stock kernel.
Some have had luck with collins battery tweek, although I have not, (Probably cause I'm not smart enough to set it up! LOL!)
I have used Jit on and Jit off but I haven't really seen much of a difference. I don't think we really have the hardware to make good use of Jit. Although I have google ****s Im kind of a minimalist when it comes to my Hero so I dont like to add too much crap on it!
Good Luck!
chrome to phone is awesome. I use it all the time to send directions to my phone for navigation. Although I haven't used it lately AppBrain is very useful. I don't like ADW Launcher, so I have Launcher Pro Plus,I also installed Beautiful Widgets and Extended Controls which make my homescreen look good. If you can find the apk for fancy widget it also replicates the HTC weather clock, but is no longer in the market.

Send web pages, links, text, directions to your phone from your computer - comes in handy when you don't use adb like me and you can send threads of whatever you are wanting to download... or if you're reading something before work and have to go you can send the link to your phone, etc...

Launcher Pro Plus is definitely a must have for me. Although it's a paid app it's definitely worth the few dollars to buy it. The only pro's to the paid version are the sense-like widgets but it's worth it to support the dev.
I tried downloading the apk's for swype buy it seems like I don't have the swype keyboard .... any help would be excellent

Looking for some advice please.
I am currenty using ES Task Manager to control apps and tasks, and kill whatever necessary. But wanted to know if anyone has used anything better, and had experience of using my current one.

Yes, there is a better task manager.
Just go to Settings>Applications>Manage applications
find ES Task Manager, click on it and then select Uninstall.
Then you will be running the latest version of No F**** Task Manager
which should do miracles on your phone, along with your OCD on killing applications, only to see them pop up again seconds later,
because that's just how the Android works.
No offence! Nothing personal here,
I am just tired of arguing with people over the same matter.
Before opening a new thread, make a search!
As far as task managers are concerned, look here.
It's a long article but totally worth reading.
I've been where you are when I bought my first Android device,
it's only natural.
But, right now I am not using any task management/killing application on my X10 and I am more than happy with its performance.
Let alone, more relaxed that I don't just have-to-kill applications in a robotic and manic way!
Cheers!
Very helpful read, thank you very much for the link.
I will take the advice and let the phone do all the hardwork.
After all it is a 'Smart Phone'
Thanks anyway!!

I agree with My_Inmortal (love that song!). I been using es task manager and others app killers, and since I unintall them my phone seems to work nicer. And I do not worry now abuot apps running in the backgound or my free ram. I just let the phone do it for me and it's great. I was going mad pushing the widget 20 times per day and watching which apps were running... Now I don't care and everything is Ok. Even my health, LOL
+ 1 on both if those comments.. I've not been using task managers or startup managers for a couple of months now.. And both me and the phone are better without them!

Well, that's only half the truth.
Android's auto killing feature performs very well.
But only as long as the Apps are coded correctly.
But there are several Apps, that have no "exit" button to end them manually. So they are working on in the background.
I for example make use of the autokilling features of an App called "Task Manager" and modified the App autostart behavior with "Autostarts".
Voila, the battery gained about 40% Standby.
Autokilling is also nice for the Apps _with_ Exit button, on which I forgot to exit them...
So there is no "Use an Autokiller" or "Don't use an Autokiller".
It depends on the individual used Apps and how Android is treated.

You are better off without that kind of apps anyway.
And if you didn't exit an app, after some period of inactivity, the system will shut it down.
Look here, I am using all these apps: http://www.appbrain.com/user/iridaki/apps-on-the-x10i
and not a single one of them is causing my phone any problems at all.
Free RAM is wasted RAM on Android, there is absolutely no point in obsessing about it.
Of course, having a task manager won't harm your phone, but auto or continuously manually killing will.
Period.
I was no talking about battery gain. Maybe you're right at this point. But for me, my phone works better since i don't have it. And i just killed apps i did not use, like moxier, photoshop, etc. Don't know why, but now works nicer.

Don't mean to be a [email protected] in the @ss, but if you cannot define "nicer",
then it proves nothing!
It could be a placebo effect from the very well know Moxier-obsession!
Anyway, there are facts and then there is user experience.
Eveybody feels different and is entitled to use his phone any way he feels like.
But the facts are still facts.

Your english are perfect!
Okay, I searched A TON on this, and while I found posts on this forum and others that address it, the accepted solution doesn't seem to be working for me. In my battery usage panel, htc.com.bgp is always near the top of the list. After the battery usage panel loads, htc.com.bgp turns into "Calendar", and when I click on it I see that there are many many different things "packaged" within it. Anyway, the consensus in other threads seems to be "clear cache for gmail and calendar" which I've done and it has no effect. It is consistently ALWAYS at the top of battery drainers, and sometimes goes above threshold (via Watchdog).
So...does anyone have any more info on what might be causing this, and how to stop it? I actually use my calendar so deleting it isn't an option, and ideally I don't want to completely disable sync, but I will if I must. There must be a way to just use the calendar as it was intended without eating up 20% of the battery usage!! Anyway, a little background on where I am in case it has an effect, I'm perm-rooted, s=off, still running stock, but with LPP as my launcher, and the only system tweaks I've made are installing faux's kernel and setting up setCPU, and doing a battery mod. But since rooting, the htc.com.bgp thing seems to have become a bigger issue. Any ideas?
Is this process strictly tied to the calendar? What happens if you're using a different calendar?
This probably isn't the answer you want to hear, but one solution is to flash a custom ROM that doesn't have any of HTC's overlay on it, but I suppose you're sticking to stock for a reason.
I'm stickin to my guns here by saying that stock Rom doesn't play well with root..
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
Wow, I hadn't even considered or heard that the stock rom doesn't work well with root, but it makes sense when I think about it because ever since rooting my phone has been a little wackier than normal. Freezes up sometimes, and battery hasn't been great at all. The main reason I hadn't flashed a new rom yet was because since I'm running LPP I didn't think it really mattered what rom I was on...but I may just flash Cyanogen7 and then run LPP over that if you think it'd make that big a difference. Certainly worth a shot! Thanks for the tips guys.
Don't want to beat a dead horse, but just had to come back and say that I've flashed cm7, and so far my phone seems to be operating MUCH better, with LPP running over it. Thanks for the tip about stock not playing nice with root!!

Yes and no. Some people really like it and there are definitely some features which even I miss now that I'm on CM7 (I personally liked the contacts app on sense). What kills it for me is the framework and everything that has to run in the background in order for all that to work. I like ROMs under 100MB.

This +1. I actually liked a lot of aspects about mysense, like the contacts app you mentioned, as well as the dialer in general. But the benefits of switching to AOSP have so far greatly outweighed the negatives. I'm happy to trade down on the dialer/contacts and a couple other things in exchange for an overall smoother, faster experience with what seems so far to be much better battery life.
I can say this is a problem for non-rooted, stock MT4G as well. Has nothing to do with root. No one has been able to identify a source of the problem or a solution from what I have found.

What are you running? If stock then carrier had probably crippled it even with their junk ware. Suggest running overcome kratos, or stock non-carrier gingerbread-can find both in the dev section. They work very fast with no bad lag.

Run the ROM/Kernel from Overcome and you will have your speed back.

Or we could send around 4 big blokes with various tablet devices to show you the error of your ways....
Overcome is good, but I prefer CyanogenMod, completely sans TouchWiz. Both are great, and you should definitely switch to one of them. You will gain a lot of performance and battery life back, for sure.
Might be a rogue app. I run the 'Fast Reboot' to dump stuff before and after a game, seems to help. The 2.3.3 update made things far smoother too.

http://www.internetslang.com/SANS.asp
I'm running the old gingerbread prep rom that came packaged with the overcome rom. I had such great speed from this that I didn't even bother to move onto overcome.
Apart from the occasional stutter, everything is very smooth, particularly web browsing. This prep rom is just stock ginger with root, and it's almost perfect. All of the ginger builds are largely identical so I can't see how you could have ginger and bad lag unless you have an app bogging it down.
Have you tried a factory reset and started fresh?
Use Fast Reboot
its free on the market, it made my tab run whole lot faster than it was.
ofcourse after installing Kratos and overclocking to 1.3Ghz it runs a lot better, but i still use Fast Reboot. it simulates a restart without doing one, causing all processes to close and come back up.
very nice app.
you can buy the paid one for scheduling it to run at times when memory usage is too high
I dont like doing factory resets my uses the tab for them farm like money games and its anoying starting from scratch

I like andromadus a lot. its the best rom ive ever had but i think i have some ideas for the next versions of it:
-themes, i would love a sense 4 or touchwiz or even a iOS theme
-more processor speed options, i mostly onderclock my Android. but there should be more "low speeds" options, like 600mhz.
-USB options, like the internet USB options in android 2.3x
-Beats Audio, maybe?
-The old music player, this one is not as easy as the one in beta 3
-Gmail update? it says everytime at opening that it hasn't been synced
-games, temple run is always buggy. Fix maybe?
-when at lockscreen, and then holding the lock button, you can still make screenshots or shutdown or phone, happend to me 2 times. fix that please
i will have more but this is it for now. what do you think?

last thing you said: it has always been like that.
themes pretty much difficult and there are cyano theme you can use
they're trying, I think, to keep the rom as much similar as possible to stock/cyano ics and and to add new features when they may be useful, but not to completely change it. Beats audio: it's mostly for sense roms, you can flash a zip if you want it. they can't update gmail themselves, google should.

This is a known issue, I can't recall what causes this but it is solved by wiping the cache/gmail cache. Go to account & sync to check if the email sync is actually checked. Not AAB4's fault though.
Overall, I think a lot of things you ask for you can get it if you do some extra work instead of asking the dev to do some more work.

I dislike how most CPU governors start slow and build up after wake. If the wake speed isn't high enough moving the lock circle on the lock screen seems very laggy and not fluid.
Music player is so very easy to change. If we are talking about custom roms, you can easily delete .apk files in /system/app because you have root access. I do this to ensure only my favorite browser is always used for instance.
I wish known issues like Temple Run crashes, camera focus is off, 3g doesn't always recover after wifi signal dropped were mentioned on the 1st post as "not working". I believe that post is misleading otherwise. Perhaps his 2nd reserve post could be used for a list of "issues" to be resolved.

Which ones are you thinking of? To my knowledge, all the ICS roms released use kernels that default to the smartassV2 governor. SmartassV2 automatically hits an ideal wake frequency immediately after turning the screen on (768mhz in Andromadus). From there it will ramp up or down appropriately.

Just thought I’d put a short guide together on what I think are some things to do to get the most out of your spanking new LG G3 when you get it or you already have it. Most of you guys might already know most of this or might not. Just thought it might help some people. This ain’t rocket science but every little bit helps!
Battery:
This is the hardest thing to do because like a fingerprint everyone has a different set up with apps and how they use their phone (wifi vs 3g vs 4g etc) that screen on time will always vary. Also you don’t want to turn everything off and cripple your brand new smartphone just for your battery. There’s a balance.
However here are some general things to do that do help:
1. Install Greenify from the Playstore. I have found this is the number one way to stop drainage. This app will hibernate apps when not in use. It doesn’t stop their functionality at all but hibernates them.
2. Don’t use Google Now. I think it’s a gimmick and does bugger all for me however if you use it it will drain your battery big time. Of course if you love it then use it!
3. Don’t use location services. Another big drainer. Just use it when you need it. However if you have apps that need it then of course leave it on!
4. Use ‘auto’ on screen brightness. Mine is on ‘auto’ but at 100% and the brightness is perfectly ok for me.
5. If you continue to get big drainage then download Betterbatterystats from the Playstore and look at the ‘wakelocks’ – this way you will be able to see what’s draining your battery. As a general rule your phone should go into deep sleep for at least 80% of the time.
With this phone I am getting around 5 to 5.5 hours Screen on Time. You should be getting around that too.
Performance:
Here are a few things only that really do help with speed and performance:
1. The whole thermal throttling thing is a pain i.e. LG’s decision to turn down brightness when it gets hot. However there is something you can do and which I have now done for two weeks with no adverse problems. Turn it off! Put this in the phone app: 3845#*400# and then scroll down to 'high temperature property' and switch to enable and do the same for 'thermal daemon mitigation'. Please note my model is ‘400’ so this will work in the number sequence above. For models with other numbers I am pretty sure you just substitute and put that number in e.g. 855.
2. Go to Dev Options and change the transition animation scale, the animator duration scale and the window animation scale to 0.5. This little thing speeds up your phone like nothing else.
3. Root your phone with towelroot. One click root! And then start debloating. Get rid of whatever you want by downloading Titanium Backup and going into each app and freezing whatever you want. Freezing is safer than uninstalling but does the same thing. Debloating is a must!
4. So once rooted then start using xPosed modules by downloading and installing the xPosed framework and then rebooting.
These are my personal Top 3:
a. Download the brilliant xPosed module ‘TweaksBox’ by P_Toti located at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2792242
And donate something to him! This allows you to change so much with this phone. I dunno where to start. It is superb.
b. I dislike the LG skin so immediately download the Google launcher – to me it is the fastest launcher out there beating Nova and Apex. This launcher cannot be customised however there is a fantastic xPosed module that allows you to customise everything - Xposed Gel settings located here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-xposed-gel-settings-t2647275
And donate to him too!
c. How good would it be to extend your nav bar seamlessly if you slide your finger! Well you can – download Xtended nav bar here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-xtended-navbar-t2787228
And donate to him too!
I can’t think of anything else but these things definitely help.
And get ready for your G3 – it is super duper great!
lol donate this donate that, you sounded like their marketing... nice tips though, I'd like to ask between betterbattery stats and gsam battery monitor, which one better?
will towelroot work on the d855 version?
also what is the difference between greenify's hibernating with titanium backup's freezing?

Ha yes someone's got to donate! They do so much and get so little.
Yes the only reason I said bbs is because I'm used to it. Gsam does the same thing essentially.
Yes from what I read towelroot should work.
Greenify hibernates an app in the background if you are not using it whilst freezing apps effectively uninstalls them without the pain of then being actually uninstalled. And you can unfreeze them any time.
okay, again thanks for creating this thread, btw how do we take screenshots from g3?

Didn't you mean volume down and power button? Is rather easy to do compared to other phones because it only takes 1 finger (pun intended)

If you turn off the "Ok Google" listener you will save most off the battery drainage, I find Google Now pretty handy.

Yes sorry i meant the button at the back!
What we need is a lost of LG apps that can safely be frozen, and what it is they all do.

Yes I've debloated some but just the safe ones. There's heaps there though.
How are you finding yours? I'm loving mine but just hoping more developers get on board. Tell your developer mates please!
Is there any danger turning off the thermal thingy. Could the phone completely overheat?
I'll just confirm for anyone wondering that indeed the turning off the thermal throttling does work by changing the device model number to "855" on the UK version
No adverse effects in last half hour or so and have been trying to run demanding tasks to see how it go's
You can uninstall all of the bloat without any issues. It also helps with your battery life. I usual get 4 hours of screen time post charge. That's more than most people can get on a stock kernel, and it's great for a 2k display.

Go to settings, General, About phone, Software information and tap on the build number 7 times. Then go back to General, scroll down and you'll see Developer options.

omg thank you, no idea there is a magic code that hid it lol :victory:
surprised this thread does not get more attention, I guess most xda members are experts...
btw does g3 has pre installed torch app (cannot find it in mine, I'm pleasantly surprised that there is just little bloatwares pre installed in my phone...) ? if not what is the best non bloated torch app to use?
and also I'm such a noob, can someone link me a guide to use tapatalk efficiently?
thanks for the help
No torch/flashlight app preinstalled, you will have to install one. Also no task manager that I can see.
What is the best torch app you recommend?
Also task manager? Doesn't the android multitasking app work finely for that?
I am using"flashlight hd led" which seems fine.
Yes android does, I just liked the task manager on the G2, not sure why they didn't keep it.
