[Q] Think we will ever.....? - Vibrant General

1. Get a playstation 2 or dreamcast emulator ( can vibrant handle?)
2. Get a game that truly shows off graphic capabilities?
3. Become a viable gaming platform so we can stop getting the shaft in terms quality?

You bet. With the rate of adoption of the Android platform, its only a matter of time before game developers start realizing the potential $$$ benefit to them.

I hope so. I love android compared to using iOS but when I compare the appstores I am left with a bad taste in my mouth.

to answer 1: gameloft has some and its only a matter of time.
to answer 2: No. Well sort of. It will happen, just not anytime soon. The only reason the devs of the PSX and NES etc. apps are not sued out of existence by the hardware manufacturers is that they are now legally out of patent. The devs can get away with it because they don't actually offer any of the still patented games, so you could be running your own games on the emulator (similar to the Limewire and torrent justifications). The PS2's hardware is still under patent and thus can not be copied without legal action. The games are also current enough that the manufacturers might actually bother with legal action.
What is more likely is an official PSP app from Samsung that allows PSP games on android phones (which would be awesome)
EDIT: I have checked the specs on the playstation and it is easily possible, abeit illegal to make the emulator, although everything would appear really small. In fact the Galaxy S could outperform the PS2 any day.
PS2: 299 MHz 64 bit processor
Galaxy S: 1GHz processor

Will android have cool games too?

Software houses are developing great games for iPhone 4 (look at RAGE) and WP7...
why google isn't doing anything to attract software houses???
I don't want to trade my nexus for a iPhone 4 or a WP7 but I think i will, because it seems it will never have such cool games (also due to its crappy multitouch)...
I like playing some games while on travel or before sleep..
I thought this "superphone" would have last me 2 years, but it's already old
Anyone having news/rumors on android gaming side? especially N1's side...
3.0 will help, and the next iteration of snapdragons will SERIOUSLY boost the ability of android to compete [unfortunately the 1GHz snapdragons are paired with a rather old gpu]. The 1.5 dual core scheduled for early adoption at christmas will bring 3x the CPU horsepower and 3x the GPU horsepower, SIGNIFICANTLY above the iphone.
ok, but i think that android should standardize hardware to attract software houses, it's like creating games for PC vs games for consoles, the can squeeze the power out of consoles because of their standard hardware, instead they need much more power to run same games on pc due to they different hardwares
EDIT: will it bring 3x ***** also??
There will be no standardized hardware. Just like in PCs. And just like in PCs, there will be games.
normally standardization does not work with open source/open licensing

yeah, i saw this rumor around but i dont remember him mentioning android at all in his demo. Also, he forgot to mention that your battery will implode in 10seconds. lol
Here is a game that came out recently Galcon
How about my phone plays psx, gameboy, snes.... Games?
Swyped from my Nexus One using XDA App
Yep but most of those games aren't playable because of keys combos that can't be done on our crappy multitouch...
However i was thinking about next gen games
Those rumors are interesting, if true
iOS have more and better games because it's easier to make games for two or three hardware setups, and also because the market is larger (I may be wrong here). The latest sales numbers show that Android kicks total ass at least in the US and is now the number one smart phone platform. That will most probably get more developers interested and we will se some more good games for Android too. It may take a while though, and we may have to wait for newer hardware revisions and Android 3 + as mentioned earlier up here.
Unfortunately all the latest Android devices were released without true multitouch and/or relatively weak GPU's (like graphics card).. Evo, Desire, Incredible, Nexus One etc. are all considered top end devices however none of them have a powerful GPU and some such as Nexus & Desire don't have proper multi touch. I think the release of all these phones definetly shot Android forward in the market and is still doing so now however we're still waiting on the next Android wave to come through bring full multitouch and fast GPU's and then I believe gaming will really take off.
On a side note Galaxy S series phones all have full multitouch & the fastest GPU in anyphone at the moment, more than 3x faster than the one in the iPhone.
Well I play more games on my nexus then I did on my iphone so w.e gran turismo, driver, mario, and a handful of game boy games.

on one side it's cool so that many games will be developed on 1ghz snapdragon platform and hopefully our nexus will see that games...but on the other side it's an old platform, honestly i think they should focus on the next generation processors to destroy iphone and bring an uber cool device
There are some really good android games. to name a few. Nova, Hawx, Asphalt5, Needforspeed shift, Hero of sparta, Modern combat, homerun battle, crusade of destiny, Super KO, Speed forge, Raging thunder, Heavy Gunner, Wave blazer, toon warz etc.
I have a n1 and a Vibrant, and let me tell you the vibrant blows the n1 out the water in real world gaming (not just benchmark crap). Games are way smoother on the Vibrant. The n1s Poor fake MT was the reason I got a vibrant, I wanna play some cool games and on the n1 with the crossing axis problem that was next to impossible...
The vibrants MT is flawless. Absolutely great, that mixed with a great GPU I say bring on the good games... Were ready.

Yeah, that's my thoughts on it. EVO's got a crap GPU. Need something with a decent dedicated GPU if we're going to be playing games that look like they don't belong on a GBA or DS.
I think this is great. It's not going to be released until late this year. It's already pretty outdated but by then the Adreno 200 GPU is going to be super, duper ancient. The EVO is probably SOL of this but my next Android phone just got a lot more interesting.
Gingerbread minimum was said so maybe we won't be sol after all

I don't know but I think it'd be a waste to develop for this chipset by then.

this is great... by time it is out... EVO2 will be here to run with it.
I think that the evo should be able to do ok...with most of the games. we will see.
we need this.. since Win7 will have the xbox connection.
Sony will most likely lock it down to Sony only devices in the following manner:
1- The Suite checks Model# or firmware (think PS Network)
2- Input device check (if your phone doesn't have the Play's controls then no go)
3- Device/Suite registration lock (the suite is locked to one device and requires a data connection to verify and run)
The concept of the suite is nice but not much different than what's being done with emu/downloader pairing.

If this was a few years ago l would have agreed but look at how Sony has handled the PSP and PS3. If you had a full PSP library then replaced it with the Go (which is a part of the same platform as the PSP1000) you had to purchase the games all over again, they didn't even attempt an exchange program. Except for the loss of the HDD in the PS2 Slim, the PS3 has been the only console to lose major features over time.
It would not surprise a lot of people if Sony ends up saying that "all meant all Sony phones running 2.3" and claim piracy concerns when questioned about it. Software and hardware developers do this type of thing all the time.

Pointless for the evo as someone already mentioned. Unless you want a lag fest on the ****ty gpu then meh.
Even some of the games on the epic will lag. Unless its some ****ty graphics like psx. If the games are the same quality as the new psp games, then it would require a better gpu. Not only that, but a gpu that is VERY good at handling battery.
The evo's battery would die in a <1h of playing a game.

[DISCUSS] [POLL] Sony Ericsson Xperia Play - A Breakthrough for Android gaming?

Does anyone else think that due to SE releasing an Android based "PSP" phone we will finally get to see more and more high-quality games on our android phones?
Personally I won't be buying the Xperia play but I strongly believe that due to it's release a lot more developers will jump on the android gaming bandwagon, which will then obviously benefit a range of Android phone owners (Desire HD anyone?)
So whats your opinion? Will the Xperia play help Android reach or even exceed the gaming quality we have seen on the Iphone? (no fart apps, in terms of 3D FPS, RPG, etc....). Will the Xperia be such a breakthrough that developers will (finally) dump iOS and develope for Android first!?
I really hope the games reeased on the Play will have no soft keys and all the leaching oppurtunisists will finally buy atleast the consolse
No, games are coming anyways. Especially now that Nvidia has there own app/market for quality games.

Problem is Tegra Zone only works with Tegra devices. The Xperia play is built on snapdragon scorpion.
The Xperia Play will bring a different crowd in. One of the benefits of it is there will be Playstation games you can download and play, and that some games on Android are optimized for the controller. It really won't bring anything major in though, since as far as gpu goes it's not all that much faster than what we have now.
Correction-Tegra Zone is available to any device with a resolution of 480x800, and running Android 2.1.
I hope that more good games come out; there are some good ones now but personally, I think that games are better if you have separate controls.
I think it's brilliant. But I also call it the Emulator Phone. I'm going to rock it ASAP since no one will release a decent Bluetooth gamepad.

Yes and no.
I've tried one and it's very nice, the gameplay is surprisingly smooth.
The one clear advantage it has is the bespoke gaming controls. In that respect no other Android handset can compete.
The problem with it, as with SE in general, is the tech is behind the curve.
There are handsets being released with much more processing capability that would provide a better gaming experience if properly utilised.
If SE had made used some sort of dual-core CPU or better yet the same CPU as the NGP will use then it would undoubtedly be the cream of the crop for gaming on Android, as it is it will face stiff competition and content is likely to be the deciding factor. In that respect, SE have a slight edge as they're using Sony's existing ties with games developers to bring in exclusive titles to the Play but I would imagine that a lot of games developers will also look to bring their games to a wider market as well.
Only time will tell how successful SE's strategy will be...

as someone on engadget said, i think the reason SE went with "lower end hardware" is because they wanted the lowest common denominator for the PS suite games, if the PS suite games are built around the play's processor/GPU it should mean higher end phones can run the games without issue

Given their clearly-stated intention to restrict compatibility to a small range of 'certified' handsets, that point is moot IMO.
They could easily have used higher-spec hardware themselves and only certified equally high-spec handsets.
As it stands, the Play aside, the only phones that will definitely be able to play the Playstation branded games are Tegra2 handsets, which are definitely better specced than the Play.

Well, the Tegra Zone app itself will work with any device with the specs you mentioned, but games will run only on Tegra devices,so it's no good.
It all depends on how well the games can be played without Xperia Play.
I'd rather carry a phone with qwerty key pad than a game pad.
Those are 10 games out the 50 that will be available... keep in mind that those games are re-designed to work with the game-pad

Nope. I'm only considering overall enthusiasm about this phone on the internet forums. The enthusiasm is more or less non present at all. Of course, there is still a way that A LOT of people are buying it and, before they could even post on XDA, suddenly dying from an endless joy they recieve from playing those top-notch gameloft games, which all (except for, well, one) has been available for iOS for months, but i find it quite unrealistic.
Anyway, to improve the gaming situation this phone should be popular, i mean, POPULAR, like top HTC or Samsung phones are, with all their multimillion sales. And this phone is not. I suppose, it is even less desireable then it's brother Xperia Arc.

Right now, this phone is outdated. Hardware is good for 2010, but now it is 2011, and there are already some exclusive games that won't even launch on a single-core CPU smartphone. And Play have to survive in this environment for at least a year. The only hope is that Sony will pay for development of a new games especially for Play.
Phone is ideal for emulators, though.

Games on the DHD

I am a recentish owner of the Desire HD. I'm loving it. I flashed a custom rom on it and I love it more. I am well aware of the horsepower in this baby and that iphone 4 is nothing compared to it... My question is this: Why do major game developers avoid android, and go for the iphone throwing out all sorts of super games that would work even better on the DHD (and please avoid the financial part, i'm well aware apple brainwashed many into buying iphone 4).
I had to post this topic because I feel a bit frustrated seeing gameloft develop nova 2, dungeon hunter 2, etc. for iphone and android gets Shrek Kart 3d... REALLY? Ea games barely developed 2-3 games and popcap is in the same boat but with 0 games. (with a near-future release of games).
There are quite a few HD Gameloft games that work just fine. Just not the newest ones that you mentioned (DH2, Nova2 etc) because they just came out for iphone and are probably not ported yet. I'm pretty sure though that they will come out eventually.
Check out their homepage, you can buy all the games directly there. All the good ones are available for android but not all of them are in the market. At least where i live (europe).
Keep in mind that the DHD is half a year old and one of the first really powerful (gaming wise) android devices. So i think in the future lots of good games will come out once the hardware is reasonably spread.
[e] I just read a news that gameloft is working toghether with Qualcomm now (who made the chips for the DHD).
Yes, i know about the android games and where I can buy them from, the thing that bothers me is that games for android are "ported' and not built. It's really demeaning, plus it loses a bit of quality imho

The reason is simple:
1. As powerful as the DHD is, the current generation of adreno, lacks in comparison to powervr in the iphone 4, it can shift nearly twice the polygons adreno can.
2. IOS only uses one CPU chipset, there. Are now 2 diffent types used in android (arm & omap) each of these chipsets use diffrent types of textures in 3D games, meaning for android, devs have to write the game twice.....

Gaming has improved and quite a lot. Have you tried Gunbros, Fruit Ninja, Dungeon Defender, Mega Jump, Rocket Bunnies, Angry birds, Reckless racing.
And the futur is looking brighter with the Unity engin (IOS most famous game engine) being ported to android.
Well, indeed the processor architectures differ in android. But major game developers hsouldnt have an issue with building two games, they have enough people. ALso are the games so easily built on the iphone? because android is always the last platform that something gets released on...

Xperia Play Alternative? Not Even Close!

So i was just browsing around and apparently XOLO is releasing a new gaming phone. At first i was excited cause the name was "XOLO Play" and i don't know about you guys but that very sounded familiar. So yeah with my heart full of hope and my head full of dreams i clicked on the link, and thats when i got angry. NO PHYSICAL CONTROLS!!!!!!! Come on now, just cause you call it a gaming phone doesn't make it a gaming phone, and if you are going to call it a gaming (no physical controls) phone at least give is some out of this world sick specs. These don't even compare to the latest phones let alone make it a genuine gaming phone. Compare this to the HTC ONE, Sony Xperia Z, or the Samsung GS4 and it pretty much nothing.
Are you guys feeling the same way about these so called "Gaming Phones"?

I think there will be no Xperia play. Sony decided to join that race for fast and thinner handset, there no room for chunky gaming phone for nerds
But seriously, if not Sony there will be other manufacturer. When you look how games develop on Google Play market. I know majority of people play Angry birds, Candy crush saga etc. so they don't need pad to play. But from other side you got games like MC, NOVA or even DH, that games played smearing your fingers on screen seems wrong and these games need proper gamepad.
Btw. found this on YT, interesting concept:
at the moment i don't think there is a profitable market for aaa console class games. since android seriously has to deal with piracy and every dev seem to push the price even lower. it came so far that newer games have to use in app purchases to get the development costs back in.
a market could be created however. when some bin manufactures decide to do real gaming devices like a psp vita.
or we need something like steam on android where the consumer base is already there (linux gaming is coming because of this - so will the 3d drivers for linux be improved over time because the market is there).
there are actually a few android gaming devices (especially in china). also the new handheld from nvidia is based on android. i wouldn't say there won't be any real gaming phone in the future.
I believe there will never be another phone with gaming controls built in. As far as buying a regular phone to game on, you can't beat an inexpensive Nexus 4. There's lots of them used up for sale. With a Snapdragon S4 Pro quadcore and 2Gb of ram, it really is a gaming powerhouse. You can't get anything close to that price.

Yeah there are ALOT of android gaming devices but we want a android gaming phone.
Also the xperia play 2 could be thin if if they wanted too. That would also make the phone slightly uncomfortable though, but thats the good thing about android customization and variety it fat phones just down right sicken you then go get a different phone, but i want gaming controls so a fat phone sounds fine to me.
.......................
I'm so confused...
How can they label that a 'Gaming' smartphone? Specifications of other smartphones far surpass that of the XOLO Play and considering it lacks any form of hardware controller it is no different to every other phone that is released at the moment.
Not to mention the 12 core ULV GPU is seriously crap in the Tegra 3. It's not much better than the Adreno 205 in my opinion. CPU is great though...
They got peoples attention lol
