Just installed this, cant believe how nice it looks!
But yeah theres an option now to start and sign in when the phone does, which is appealing because it would be similar to blackberry messenger.
But would this cause a serious drain on battery? Surely its no different to having GTalk running?
nimbuzz does not have push notification like GTalk or the nimbuzz on the iphone so it will drain your battery like mad because its constant connection to stay logged in.
the closes thing to bbm is gtalk atm. or whatsapp when they release it on the android
that sucks, no one I know uses gtalk lol. is whatsapp being released on Android?

Hows your battery life when using nimbuzz?
Whatsapp should be released soon but i dont see why people are paying for this app when GTalk does the same if not more and its FREE?
Ask your friends to install GTalk on their devices for now, they might like it =)
Because "WhatsApp" does not need special username or PIN.
You only need your phone number (in international forward) and that's it!
Very nice indeed, but when for Android????

When you install Nimbuzz, does it ALWAYS connected ?
Is it possible to run it on-demand?
Because I might interested in using it as "Skype" client ONLY. And use it when I want to use Skype-call feature.

nimbuzz is always connected and it does not support push notification.
i installed it to use skype but it doesnt support group chat so its a bit useless for me.
But generally skype does not support push notification, not even on there own official apps
Is it possible to turn the connection OFF ?
And only use it just to use Skype for calling (international) land-lines for example?

You can sign out which turns the connection off.
so you can sign in when you need to use skype and sign out when your finished
Does anybody see their own picture in conversation? I have in my account, but I /and frieds don`t see it.
I tried Nimbuzz today, but unfortunately I cannot use it to use my Skype account to call (non-skype) landlines / mobile phones
I know, for this feature I need full featured Skype client, correct? And it does not exist on Android !
Nimbuzz has been uninstalled ...
Do you have your mobile number associated with skype in order to send sms and call? I have and have no problems calling mobile numbers from Nimbuzz. I takes credit from my skype account.
Yes, I finally figured it out how to get that ...
BUT ... it is really buggy ...
It only worked for the FIRST TIME ... showing that saved number.
When I modified or added some more in the Skype PC application, logout Skype.
They dont appear on the Nimbuzz.
I tried to login-logout Nimbuzz ... it does not work.
I tried to remove Skype account and added again ... it does not work
I tried to uninsall Nimbuzz and reinstall ... it does not work
I tried to uninstall Nimbuzz, reboot phone, reinstall ... it does not work
Whatever I tried in Android phone with Nimbuzz, it did not "sync" (or update) the Skype saved numbers.
So, yeah, frustrated with this kind of quality of the Nimbuzz for Android.
Does it work on yours? The add/update Skype saved numbers ...

no, removing the account did not refresh contacts
Yupe, and there is NO WAY to refresh either
So, I guess I have to wait another update ... (if there will be any!).
Anyway, I tested to call using SkypeOut and the call quality is not that good, there was some delays at the other end (long distance international call).
But, certainly it is better than Fring.

Hi does any one know of a good video chat app? I was hoping gmail video chat would work, but no.
Any ideas?
Sent from my GT-P1000M using XDA App
fring.com . The only thing there is no phone to PC or vice versa, only phone to phone.
tango is the best!
Try doing a search of the forum there is a whole thread about it here. :-/
try out yahoo messenger! theres a video and voice plugin you can install on it
I was able to find both Skype and Skype mobi (for VZW) in the market. This morning, after reading the news of Skype update, I searched the market and can only find one Skype app. I don't know if it's because I upgraded to Gingerbread or the Skype for VZW was removed.
Anyways, I installed the Skype app and it worked out pretty well. It finally remembered my password so I don't have to type my password every time (something the SKype for VZW is not capable of). Plus, it can use wifi as well as 3G.
Looks like the pre-installed Skype mobi is useless now.
So what are you asking?
Has anyone been able to do video chat via Google's Chat? I seem unable to do so, and I cannot find Talk in the Market ...although I don't know if it would support video on this tablet or not.

Used it earlier today to talk with my brother in mexico, it worked exceedingly well.
iirc, it comes already installed.
Its a native google app, not a market app.
I couldnt get it to work intially but it turns out its tied to my google apps account for some reason. Once i signed out of the apps account and signed in with a regular gmail account it worked beautifully chatting with my girlfriend over 4g tethering on my Evo. I cant wait until someone gets 2.3.4 working on the Evo so we can have the android phone/chat functionality.
i've used it chatting with my wife, works well.
Argh...I thought I looked for Talk on it and didn't find it, but alas, it is there. ( I had to install it from market on my phone, so assumed I had to do the same thing here).
Sounds good. I presume this does work with Google Chat...so if someone is on their PC and Browser (not signed into Talk) it would work. Seems to me like at some point I had to join a Talk account with Google.
Thanks folks.
for tablet to pc video chat, the person on the pc needs to be in the browser (like a gmail window) and have the video plugin installed.
I use it with my Google Apps account no problem.
The sound quality from the other side isn't great... I don't know if Talk is crap, the other computer is crap, or the speakers on the TF are crap...
Nice to have video chat though, I just wish Samsung would release 2.3.4 for Galaxy S II
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.skymobius.vtok
http://vtokapp.com/
I was experimenting with this earlier today with a coworker that has an iphone 4g. I think vtok nuked some of the video quality but it worked.
is GTalk the best one to use or Qik for our phones?
gtalk is very exclusive right now
tango, fring, yahoo mess, qik, oovoo are some good alternatives
what do you mean exclusive?? you mean only Gtalk is able to only call Gtalk only?
with the video calling apps, does it work with each other or both parties need the same app?
exclusive - : limiting or limited to possession, control, or use by a single individual or group
i believe only phones running android 2.3.4 can use gtalk video. not many phones have that available, thus making it exclusive. both parties need gtalk to do video chat
I think Fring is better than Qik... wider user base too.
I think u should just use tango for the most part. also works well if u have to video chat with iphone friends
Do both parties need to be on the same service
Do both you and the other person need to be on Tango or can you each have a different app? Or is there one app than can use multiple protocols?
