Windows Mobile on HTC Legend - Legend General

You can put Windows Mobile OS on an Android device?
Although Android is a more fluid, Windows Mobile offers more options.

Bravo good question.
Only your English seems
bad.

HTC HD Mini and HTC Legend
The device running Windows Mobile 6.5 Sense with 320 x 480 resolution HVGA is the "Touch HD Mini".
The best Windows Mobile system is present on "HD Mini" with graphic optimization and speed.
Also HTC Legend has a 320 x 480 resolution HVGA.
Both systems have a 600 MHz processor.
Sorry for my English.

The solution is simple. Don't buy a Legend if you want Windows Mobile. Buy a HD2, or anything else. I'm almost 100% sure that Windows Mobile won't be available for Legend (and there is no need to anyway). The main aspect for the Legend's success is Android and HTC Sense. I don't buy a Mac if I want to run Windows on it
Anyway it would be interesting trying Windows Phone 7 on Legend when it's available.

go wash your mouth wit soap.

How about a dual boot?

WM for me is a good but Legend has a nice aesthetics, I made only a demand since there are similarities between HTC HD Mini and HTC Legend.
However I have also an HD2.

winmo7 looks like a bad OS its so locked out compared to past versions seems like a backwards step

It's not so much an superiority/inferiority issue as to the 100's of dollars I've spent over the years for apps that will be useless with Android.

I have both HD2 and Legend. Legend is my daily phone and HD2 is my business phone. You have a point in telling Winmo offers more that's because Winmo has been on the stage for years and it's come to an end with WP7. There'll ben no upgrade or anything for oldschool winmo devices. Also winmo is quite heavy if you don't have a dragon inside your phone while android works very well with a 600mhz chip. As a matter of fact sometimes my Legend reacts faster than my HD2. And Android market is expanding faster than any other platform so there's no point in winmo anymore. Enjoy your nice designed eye-candy piece of technology as most of us do and forget about winmo the history )))

Windows Mobile 6.5 on Aria?? - Resurrected December 26, 2010

Does anyone know if it is possible to install Windows Mobile 6.5 (from the Aria's brother, the HTC Mini). I want to buy an Aria--but if it can not upgrade to Andriod 2.2 with more Bluetooth calling functionality, I actually prefer Windows Mobile with Microsoft's Voice Command.
This topic died, but I want to resurrect it.
In response to those that asked if I am crazy, of course I am. But that is not why I wanted to run WM 6.5.x on the Aria. Here are my reasons:
1) The HTC HD Mini (an Aria running WM 6.5) has 900 and 2100 for HSDPA bands. I am on AT&T which uses the 850 and 1900 bands for HSDPA. So I can’t get a high speed connection on the Mini. But the Aria has the AT&T bands.
2) Android is fine, but I prefer WM (no, this is not crazy). I want WM 6.5.x because I am hooked on having the ability to effectively use voice dialing with 2,000+ contacts, having my callers name announced, having my appointments read, and having email sender and subject read (if I want), all over the phone speaker OR Bluetooth earpiece. Tried Android, and it can’t do any of that.
3) I want to easily sync my phone calendar, contacts, tasks, notes, and favorites directly with my PC and my laptop, ActiveSync does it perfectly—Android does not.
Does anyone know how to install WM 6.5.x on the Aria? Any ideas? Thanks.
It can be upgraded to Froyo and I'd expect it to be later this year.

Why? What do we expect in AT&T's version of Froyo that we aren't getting now?
The main question is still being leaved unanswered: It is never possible to install WM on an Android phone.
Im suprised that people want windows mobile on android phones. The only thing i really like about windows mobile is MS Office. But honestly, there is little to no chance of ever getting windows mobile on an android device.

Why is this. What is there to keep WM from working on the HTC Aria. I am not a programer and I shure do not understand the innerworking of cell phone operating systems. I own several HD2 phones and found it to be very simple to install cooked roms. I have spent the past two days reading through the forums on the Aria and am not any closer to understanding what is needed to be done to get there. Anyway, It would be nice to see WM working on the Aria.
The aria is just a hd mini with android you want winmo get hd mini check the specs they are pretty much identical
Um im not 100% sure on this
But i believe the bootloaders are different for windows mobile and android phones. There phones are also partitioned differently and just because the phones have identical specs doesn't mean it uses identical components and drivers. I.e. the wifi chip could be a different type, the speakers might be different, you would have to find the correct drivers, IF it were even possible to use the bootloader to boot windows mobile. Its not as simple as flashing an htc hd mini rom to an aria because the phones look the same. But if you really want windows mobile so bad, id say just buy a windows mobile phone.

I could be wrong as I am not a cook but from what I understand;
Android seems to work well at adapting to different operating environments. The core is just more versatile than WinMo. A lot of that comes from the more open development environment of Linux and proprietary nature of Microsoft. Android is made to just work unlike Microsoft's archaic mobile platform.
I think of it like this;
Android(Linux) = Nails, They will simply drive into nearly anything and function.
Windows = Screws, Things have to line up perfectly, you usually have to pre-drill, and it takes a lot of twisting.
There seems to be enough failed WM phones out there anyway. I hate to see someone take a functional phone and cripple it. My old tilt went through maybe 15 different WM ROMs and none of them worked as smoothly as Android.

That's an awesome analogy, I'm gonna have to use it sometime.
I know the HD2 guys are porting Android over to their WM phones. This is the first time I've heard of anyone wanting to go the other way though.
It seems most of the discussion is Android vs. WM, but I think some people just want to know if it's possible to put WM on an Android device.
In all likelihood it probably is though with limited functionality. However there aren't many, if any, devs that are interested in trying to get it to work. For the most part Android has taken over the crown for people who want to tinker with their phone. Even while I had a WM phone it was obvious most of the devs were moving to Android phones, or just porting Android to the WM devices. If you really want WM the easiest way is probably to just get a WM phone, or you'll probably have to do your own work in trying to port.

HD2 or Desire

Hi Guys I have been a winmo user for a while and then i moved to android with xperia x10. however i am thinking of changing my toy and unable to decide between 2 HD2 and desire.
for me i felt both OS as same for my usage in fact i liked winmo for exchange support more.
so if you guys have to make a choice which one would you like to go for.
Waiting for your honest advise.
HD2 is best looking phone IMO, problem is, WM is running. I chose a Desire because of that, not the same looks, but same specs + Android.
Aka, Desire if i had to pick.
i played arround with android on my hd2 and now i wish i had a desire... android seems more like what win mobile should have been... althogh android is so young... android is much more smoother and the integration with google, gmail, social networks is much better than win mo... on top of that the market has much more options that win mo...
AFAIK froyo supports exchange server...
my bad...i posted a Q earlier that is HD2 the best option, and i was suggested that HD2 is indeed the best option as compared to any phone including Desire...
desire has a plastic body...so that is something i wouldnt like much...and above all HD2 has the best display

again for me this is a no brainer just buy the hd2 and if you want run the desire android build.
that way you can have both in one handset with a bigger screen.
so seems that everyone suggest that I should go with Android ?
so now if i flash a android ROM on HD2 will it be as good as Desire since desire was made for Android.
Also do we have a stable Android ROM for HD2 ?
Please help guys i got to buy it in 2 to 3 days

IMO the Hd2 is much better than any android device out there currently.
The Hd2 is NOT a capable Android device. I had a Nexus One that I sold to get the Hd2 off of craigslist for cheap thinking I could run both. Only problem with that is the fact that your running an entire operating system off of the SD card on a phone not designed to run it at all.
People that have never used Android will say it runs fine on the Hd2, but I had the Nexus One for 6 months and I can really feel the slowdown and battery issues.
I would recommend the Hd2 to anyone I know but NOT if you need to have Android. I like WM 6.x much better on my Hd2 over Android...

Cmon man don't act like a little girl about this decision. If you want the Hd2 then go for it but dont try to act like we are really going to be the determining factor that makes the decision by rushing us. Yeah we might tell you something you like but have a pair and make a good decision yourself
i dont know why but the desire feels like a girls phone
my choice would be hd2 WinMo is way better than android to me...only boot android occasionally to play some games or use some apps that are missing in Winmo its a win win situation

elfin has only a doubled rom/ram difference, cpu is the same. besides, not that a slight difference would work
what about eclair or froyo?
does someone have cab for that?
The answer is still no. There is only android1.6 donut for the elf/elfin. Wing Linux have done a great job getting it to the state that it is in at the moment. If you want a phone that is going to run android fully then just get an android phone. The elf is a very old device now when you consider the changes to mobile phones in the last year alone.
I'm sorry to be so blunt but I don't think it will happen. And even if it does it will be very slow and you'll probably end up with a negative impression of android or winphone 7 and not want to use it. You.can get early android phones for relatively cheap now. Look at the Hero, massive.community, but again, people are moving to faster devices already.

Saying that though, there is no.reason that you can't offer a helping hand to get eclair or group ported. Wing Linux will probably welcome the help.

I agree... It was just something I found on the web.
I am all over this when and if it ever becomes public. Android is great, much better than windows but the lagging, bad battery life, random reboots and other small issues make the experience less than ideal. I was looking into buying a G2 but I'll wait and see what this is like.
This is why there's no OFFICIAL upgrade path.
The reason why they didn't upgrade is because they wanted to sell more phones. With the buttons is BS. Any dev could of just remapped the buttons, everyone knows that. Looks like they could of came up with a bettet excuse than that.

what hideous Android ROM are you using man?
I get no lag, great battery life (24 hours usage) no random reboots and everything else runs great. I like the stability of my ROM with MDJ's S kernel. I can honestly say I'd rather be rocking this phone over a chunky, ugly, small-screen G2 (albeit the G2 chip is faster, but I've got all the speed I really need on my QSD chip).
You may consider upgrading your ROM or at least your kernel.

HD2 VS Desire

What should I buy a HD2 and run Android 2.2 on it or buy a Desire, there practical the same price so i was wondering!
I really like the Android. How's the battery life with android on a HD2? Is it as stable as on a Desire?
thanks
i would go for the hd2,dont know for the desire but hd2 with android 1 day with medium use
HD2 running windows and ANDROID gets my vote..
BUT you've posted this in the wrong forum... this is one is all about specific android builds and kernels!

I own the HD2 but the constant PPP dropouts at the moment for me make it almost unusable for mobile internet, the battery life is great for my casual usage though.

Windows is toast now and WP7 seems to do not work as expected.
Go for Android and forget Windows
If u want android only, go with Desire (I think Desire HD would cost more but it's a lot better than the original Desire)
If u like having a classic version of windows mobile (WinMo 6.5.x) with Android in the same phone, then go with HD2 and be ready to read a lot of threads on how to flash the right ROMS in order to run Android in a good shape)

I like the Sense UI but I don't like the "over-red" screen of desire. I also like big screen. so, my only choice is only HD2+android now.
Mate get the Desire or the Desire HD.
for me is HD2 not because of android but because of the screen.
I own both and i prefer HD2 with Android even if it has some minor bugs at the moment.
Most of them are eliminated with NAND.
I have HD2 running Android (Desire HD ROM), my wife just upgraded getting a Desire HD...
After playing with both, I'll be getting a Desire HD - so much more stable and fast as lightning (especially boot up - only a few seconds!)
Hope that helps?

HD2
the hd2 is a superphone, the desire is just android that is locked and restricted. you will most likely end up modding it. so why not get the one with option's? and run multiple versions of android instead of being stuck with 1.... just my opinion
depends on what are u basically... If u r a techie guru or who loves experimenting get a hd2 - why? u can run wm 6.5, android and shortly WP7 and meego - 4 OS
if u r happy with android then get a 3.7 inches 1500mAH Desire..
Else wait for Desire HD or WP7 phones.. but i see ur one of the criterion is price as well... so best is to choose which u think u should be using say 6 mths down the line
Happy buying.. spend judiciously..
HTC Desire HD for sure.why do you want to buy a windows mobile device and struggle every day either to try the android rom modifications(never working 100% and stable) or sit and make an android rom for it.
Also,if you are buying such a highly priced mobile device, why not go with the latest which has the newest and the best features.
The desire HD has a next generation snapdragon processor,768mb RAM,1.5gb ROM,dolby mobile,SRS WOW HD,8mb camera with 720p recording at 30fps.
don't these specifications literally shout at you saying - " WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED !!!!!!!!!!!! "
invest your hard earned money smarty.
Regards,
Karan.
I say HD2. My android hasn't had a PPP drop yet with Phiremod 1.7. (knock on wood)
Um... exactly why are people talking about the Desire HD? Did the OP ask about it? Nope.
Between the Desire and the HD2, definitely the HD2. Nice big screen, nice and thin, and fast. The Android roms are awesome. Anybody who tells you they aren't stable needs to change builds.
Not to mention the fact that people are working on porting MeeGo and WP7.
Anyway, that's my opinion.
WP7 is more like Zune 202 for microsoft. They are going to learn their lesson the hard way...
