Custom ringtone - HD2 General

Is there any way to set a custom ringtone from the mp3's on the SD card?... Not talking about trimming mp3 and putting it on my ringtones folder... I'm trying to preserve my memory on the phone, so it would be cool to use the mp3's directly from the SD card as ringtones...

Just had a search through the registry and can't find any reference to the Rings folder other than the Twitter/Peep app.
So i'm guessing the ringtone folders (\Windows + \Windows\Rings) are pretty embedded into the Windows OS.

Thank you for your reply....
I found a way to do this... its very simple, you just have to put your mp3 to the "my documents" folder on the SD card, and you can choose your mp3 as your custom ringtone...

mp3 on magician

Hi there. A noooobie question for the weekend.
How can I put an mp3 as a ring tone in the magician? It seems only to work with "wav".
Thanks.
Yup "wav" is the default ringtone format file in Magician. U can use 3rd party software like Pocket Ringo to use mp3 as ringtone in Magician.
no need for a third party software. just copy the ringtone in windows/rings folder an then u can have the mp3 as ringtone.

Sorry TS my mistake, I want to correct my statement, yes lanuk79 is right, no need to use 3rd party software, just put mp3 files on Windows/Rings folder to use mp3 as ringtone.
@lanuk79 : At first I didn't believe what you'd said. But when I tried it on my magician then I realized that you're right. Thanks bro for the enlightment .
Note : In my O2 XDA II Mini manual book, it's said that .mid and .wav files are the default files for ringtone. It doesn't mention anything about .mp3 files that also can be used as ringtone.
If you want to change the ringtone folder, you have to use software like SKTools (the alternative is reghacking it yourself). The unlimited trial version lets you do this. When I had my Magician on Big Storage, I put my 'tones in the Storage folder, and I maxed out my program RAM.
hkcu\controlpanel\soundcategories\incall\directory
hkcu\controlpanel\soundcategories\ring\directory
change the values of these keys from \windows\ to \"directory you need"\
thats all,you need only a registry editor
the manual is rubbish!! and yes all u need is a small registry hack to load the rings from ur SD card. but remember that since the SD card takes a few seconds to boot up u mite not get the ringtone u specified. i changed my rings to storage card but all i kept getting was the default ring. the culprit was the storage card. the phone shuts down the power to the card to save battery n hence when the phone wakes up again it needs to boot up the card again. the boot up hampers with the ringtone causing the default ringtone.
true lanuk79, i dont think we can put ringtones in SDcard.. but maybe what soonari and ultimatechicken meant were "storage" directory, not storage card. storage directory is extra space u got if you do "bigstorage hack". and yes, the ringtones (mp3 or anyother formats) will works if u put them there...

How do I install ring tones

Ok, I did a fast search and not sure what I am missing. I have some ring tones that I want to use and converted them to .wma, but have no idea what to do with them. I dumped them in the windows folder, but that did not work. What am I missing? Chad
All you have to do is copy the (I assume MP3) to a folder under my docs called Ring Tones then they'll show up in the settings under "phone." Just select the one you want and you're good to go. Enjoy.
Well I just tried that and I still do not see them. I tried the my documents on the storage card and on the rom. Am I missing somthing? Chad
Not too hard to do. copy the file into the file "ring" this will be in the windows folder on your device. Once there you should see it in the list for your ringtones.

What I do is copy any ringtone such as MP3 or WMA into the Sounds folder inside the Application Data folder in the root and it works.
Also if you want to assign special sounds such as Alarm sounds or music you can copy WAV files into the WINDOWS folder in the root directory and they will appear when you try to assign an Alarm sound.
Another thing that might interest you guys is that you can even assign special slide out sounds with a program that I will provide to you guys, but it must be in WAV format. ( you can always just crop a song and save it as WAV. That is what I do * editing program not available here)
Hope this answered your questions

As far as I'm aware your ringtone wether mp3 or wav needs to be on the internal memory and not the storage card.
Copy ringtones to windows/rings
But these shouldn't take up much space on your phone anyhow, plus you couild always crop the length of each tune to minimize the size
create a folder on your SD card called My Documents. Your HD should find all music placed in this folder when you search for ringtones.

My apologies. Wasn't aware of this as I had tried doing this before but put all my ringtones into a folder within My Documents and phone didn't pick them up.
Great to know this, cheers bro
On my storage card my ringtones are in a My Ringtones folder inside My Documents and work fine.

Yeah I have this now, but originally I had this folder called My Rings
Didn't initially realise you had to be precise with the naming. Thought phone would have the ability to pick this up
All ok now though
Glad it worked.
Use file explorer on pda to find the tune (mp3) you want to use. Press and hold with stylus on the file (mp3), box pops up giving you option to set as ring tone. Easy peesy

Ringtones being searched in media library..

Hi,
I have tried to set ringtone files properties as hidden to prevent them being searched in media library, but it seems that sometime the system setting will change back to default ringtone as the mp3 files cannot be searched.
Thus i wonder is there any method to hide mp3 ringtones being searched in library, but still can be found by system, like .nomedia in android...
Thx~~
Nobody knows...??
NO way found up to now, been searching too
There is no way; even contacting HTC, they just said to add all the songs you want to listen to to a freakin' playlist.
What I did to minimise things was set the ID3 tags for all the ringtones to be by a band called 'ringtones', in a 'ringtones' album. At least this way it prevents the ringtones from being listed under the original album/artist.
SOLVED
Use total commander or resco file explorer, set the folder with your ringtones or any other folder you don't want to have in your player to hidden. Take out your SD card, restart your phone, select the music tab, it should say no music found, unless you have files on the phone you want picked up by it, put your SD card back in, and restart again. select the music tab. This WORKED for me, hopefully it will work for everyone else.

Ringtones on SD card?

Am I missing something or is it not possible to use ringtones on your SD card? I checked the HTC site for this and didn't see anything about this.

Try using ringdroid and see where it stores all it's mp3's on your sd card. Then that should be the folder you have to put all your mp3's into in order for them to be selectable.
You just need to create folders. Make folders called ringtones, alarms, notifications and place the sound files that you wish to use in it's folder (i.e. for a ring tone, place an mp3 in the ringtone folder).
Thanks so much for the help, worked like a charm (ringtones folder).
