i was disappointed at first to hear that verizon would be getting nexus one and not sprint. but with the fact that we'll get 2.1 soon makes it okay for me. plus i'm really just waiting for another great qwerty android device that isn't all blocky like the moto droid.

AT&T isn't getting it...

Well, you can run the unlocked one on AT&T using an AT&T SIM, you just don't get 3G access cause the phone is tri-band not quad, and only meant for T-Mobile's 3G.

Got beat to the punch...

What keeps me waiting patiently is talks of qualcom bringing out dual-core 1.5ghz snapdragon cpu later this year, it'll make the nexus old news before you know it.

Dual core snapdragon would be insanity. Great stuff. I'll tell you something though. I am upset with the fact that Sprint isn't getting any of these cool phones either but they historically never have. I mean Palm is a little different because they have always loved Sprint but historically Sprint has never really had the latest and greatest. This could be a good thing though. I mean think about it. Sprint knows Android is big. They also know 2010 is their coming out party for WiMax. My theory is that Sprint is waiting for HTC to come out with a WiMax or EVDO/WiMax hybrid android phone. I expect by summer or, more likely, fall 2010 we will have the latest and greatest WiMax capable 1Ghz+ Android 2.1 (2.5 if it's released by then) phone. I figure by then I can sell my Hero and, assuming I have a job by then, by the coolest phone.
It's all a waiting game. Sad but that's what it all comes down to.

Yeah, Gizmodo has rumors of a Sprint WiMax HTC Android phone.. and from now on obviously HTC will have Snapdragons or better on all their flagship phones. We'll have a better phone than Nexus One with WiMax, which no other carrier will have.. thinkabout it.
In the mean time, embrace in the fact that we had the Hero when nobody else did.

I heard lots of problems of N1.
Google is hurry for the cellphone market.

It will be HTC. For sure.

wow dual core 1.5ghz processor..dont think its really necessary since the iphone has full 3d insane graphic games with 600mhz processor..1ghz is great for me..
im seriously wanting to go to tmobile for that nexus one..but that $570 is just killing me and i am not going to pay $80 a month for phone..much rather pay $39 for unlimited internet and just use voip because i have great 3g coverage down here in irvine

i work for sprint to =)
and yes the android device with wiimax WILL be an htc device but also
LG will be making an android device for us called the Prada 3

i think when our hero's get the 2.1 update we will be caught up....thats all we need to catch up i think

sprint HAS to get an android phone with the snapdragon proc..

any word on when these will hit the market ????

Agree'd, once we get 2.1 it will be great.
Sprint already carries smart phones from Motorola, Samsung, LG, Blackberry and HTC, plus they just added the HTC Touch Pro2. How many smart phones do they need? People need to stop shopping equipment and start thinking about service, rate plans, Monthly fee's, coverage areas and customer assistance, not to mention the reputation of the carrier. Damn, we all pay a monthly bill, its not for the phone we use, its the service plan we all have that compliments whatever phone equipment you want or have. Sprint has given us a nice selection to pick from imo.
Moving on, next topic pls........

looking forward to a 4g HTC Bravo!

one problem with that statement......4g wont be "mostly everywhere" fo a couple more years. Planned for 2010 are Boston, Houston, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. and only a handful of other smaller cities.

Soon to be Former iPhone User!

Hey everyone!
I've been following Anroid for a while and when Google announced the N1 for AT&T I almost bit but decided to hold off for the SuperSonic... Now I know I'm jumping ship!
My contract is up this summer and I'm going to get this phone. I don't care how much it is. I highly doubt that Apple has anything up their sleeve this good.
Anyway, I've been very into the jailbreaking community for the iPhones and have gathered that this is the place to be for information on Android phones, so I'm coming over and posting to say hi and join the rest of you waiting for this phone to hit pockets around the USA.
This is like when darth vader turns good.

I like to say goodbye to my iPhone too, but HTC won't bring a GSM version to Australia.
Yes, there has been tens of so called iPhone killers in the past, but I think this is the only one that I really take serious notice, and would not hesitate switching to. Just unfortunate that they don't have a world model.
Why would HTC not first concentrate on a GSM model as it usually does? After all, anyone travelling around would require it to be a GSM model rather than CDMA model, I would have thought. This phone is useless if you travel a lot.
wait for nexus one to be useable in your countries, it's been said it's comming for certain to most countires. It's going to be the "universal android phone" There may be some who have already figured out how to use it in some way/shape/form on the frequencies you use. A little research will provide the answer.
Waiting for a cdma, sprint exclusive phone to come to your country... yea... good luck with that. Nexus one will have almost everything this has minus the .5 inch difference in screen size, hdmi out, and kickstand. And some senceUI if that's your thing. I know this is for the EVO but this phone just ain't gonna happen in your country unless you're america.
Crying about why CDMA was chosen over GSM, do you realize the only android phones sprint has are still running 1.5, and have outdated processors in them? Yea **** those CDMA guys and their lousy network.... I'm on GSM and I need 5 superphones, you CDMA guys don't deserve anything. Go back to using push to talk dumbphones... you freaking douches

the evo was designed by htc and sprint, hand in hand. the market for smartphones in the US is pretty big now. and with sprint being the first to launch 4g it was only right, in a business aspect for them both to do this. it has nothing to do with gsm vs cdma. although a lot of us here in the states can agree that cdma rules over gsm! ive had both tmo and att within this last year and by far i like sprint the most. coverage, cost and now the best phone on the planet to date!

Is that so? Does it imply that HTC couldn't offer the same phone under other name to the other market then?
I had always thought that evo is just a variant of HTC Supersonic which was designed mainly by HTC, and that HTC would be free to repackage it anyway it sees fit for the other market.
I've not personally used a CDMA phone myself as it is rather uncommon in our part of the world, so we don't really have the option of using it even if it is really better than GSM.

I'm guessing that the Supersonic was the code name for the Evo 4G. I like the HTC Bravo was the code name for the Desire. And the HTC Passion/Dragon was the code name for the Nexus One.

Looks like Sprint cancelled the N1 as well...

Jesus, I already have my T-Mobile version and it doesn't hurt me but I really don't like Sprint (and Verizon) giving hopeful N1 customers the finger.
Its not that they just said no to subsidizing the phone... its that since they work off a CDMA network (non sim cards) they will just block the phone entirely off their network. Even if you had a Sprint compatible version and called them up to activate it they would tell you no. Greedy SOB's.
I wanted the N1 to become a smartphone standard across all 4 carriers so that Google would continue to produce it for a LONG time and come out with subsequent versions over time. But with just two carriers supporting it I am scared Google might abandon it long term due to low sales.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/10/sprint-cans-nexus-one-in-favor-of-evo-4g/
Doesn't matter to you or me. We've got one of 2 current gen standard bearers (other being the Milestone/Droid) and ours doesn't have to go through a carrier to get OS updates.
All the apps will be built with us in mind, so fewer bugs and possibly more apps. We're basically Android Dev Phone 3. Nothing wrong with that at all. This is a loss for Sprint customers only, and the size of that loss is debatable.
Sucks to be a sprint customer. Will the EVO be better than the Nexus One? On paper, yes.. however that has yet to be seen. Most (or some) of us thought the N1 would be overshadowed by the Droid Incredible but that wasn't the case at all.
EVO vs Nexus One .... coming soon.
I wonder who's decision it was to cancel these phones...
Verizon, Sprint, Google, or HTC?
Who's to blame here?

Good question. If it was Google, I think they bailed just before the vindication of the N1. I am reading about perceived "issues" with the Incredible and Desire similar to those on the N1 regarding 3g coverage. The N1 is a damn fine phone, and Verizon and Sprint users are missing out on an absolute gem with a better forward path than anything else in the hardware queue.

Its DEF Sprint's and Verizon's fault the phone was cancelled. Google could easily put in a different radio (like they did with the ATT version) but Sprint and Verizon can just refuse to activate the phone on their network like they did. ATT and TMo didn't have a choice since they use sim cards. Sprint and Verizon are evil companies that force their customers into more expensive options instead of giving them choices
Same reason the verizon deal fell through. both spring and verizon are very controlled networks. Googles wants to essentially turn the cell phone system into an europe-esque system where phones and service are seperate entities.
Each nexus phone has to be programs for verizon or sprint. They probably couldn't come to terms with an appropriate price and management. They'd have to have the phones programmed before being shipped out, one more step and one more cost.
Then you have the headaches of pushing out updates. We saw how long it took Droid to get the 2.1 update. If you want to update a sprint android phone you have to take it to a retail store to do it!
thats a damn shame
sprint cancelled (probably, i'm just guessing here) for the same reason verizon did. they have a top notch android phone coming out, for which they reap the benefits of sales. why would they chop that by catering to a phone that would only compete with their own sales, but they don't get sales money for? neither att nor tmo have a better phone right now.
btw, i love my nexus one. i can see why they would worry, lol. incredible is a nice phone, but the chick i'm hanging out with just got one, i played with it, and i prefer my N1, tbh

If Sprint or Verizon doesn't want to subsidize the N1 because they want to push their own phone that's fine. But blocking an unlocked N1 from using their network just for the sake of being ****'s and forcing people into more expensive options? That's just bullsh*t and shouldn't be tolerated
Just because customers getting screwed happens in American business doesn't make it acceptable...

I partially agree with the OP here, it would be nice to have this across all carriers, but in all honesty, CDMA is just not something that is well supported outside the US. Having GSM is key since it is more the worldwide standard. I don't think not having CDMA is going to really hurt things for this device.

That makes no sense at all. Even if they didn't subsidize the phone, like AT&T, someone could buy the N1 100% with their own money, and then throw their money at Verizon/Sprint for the voice and data plans. All I could see is a net PLUS of subscribers on their networks. Now if someone reallly wants an N1, they'd be thinking T-Mobile / AT&T; a net LOSS of subscribers for Verizon/Sprint.

Verizon and Sprint have a much much more closed network than Att or T-mobile. They wan't entire control of what goes on the network.
I don't think anyone would care because sprint customers would probably be waiting for EVO 4g..

CLEARWIRE launching 2nd generation HTC EVO 4G?

a representative of CLEARWIRE jus stepped in my store to promote the new WIRELESS hotspot called the "iSPOT",similar to the sprint's EVO 4G $29.99 a month hotspot."iSPOT" is free with 2 years contract and u pay $25 a month for the full only 4g network sharing to 8 devices and also can carry around anywhere u go.
now the main part he said CLEARWIRE also lauching 4g phones.soon as he said that i asked "by which manufacture?" he replied HTC.i asked "any info on what kinda HTC?" he replied 2ND GENERATION HTC EVO 4G with 2 years contract.plan $75 unlimited talk(3g),text and data(4g).COMING END OF THIS YEAR MIDDLE OF NOVEMBER IN 80 MARKETS INCLUDING NEW YORK.
Hmm, wasn't aware that HTC had any upcoming phones this year. I'm skeptical.
I also don't believe anything Clearwire says after I was an actual Clearwire customer and swallowed their tripe for 5 months.
if thats true.. then im not surprised. every few months HTC rolls out a new phone lool..
I use one every day...they have two kinds...one is a 4g only hotspot and the other does 3g and 4g. Mine its the 4g only device... Works like a charm... Runs my playstation and laptop with no blips... fits in your pocket

Well thankfully Sprint lets me upgrade every year since I'm a preferred customer... whatever that means. apparently they'd prefer to not have other customers? Either way I'll ditch my phone the second a new HTC model comes out (assuming its better then the EVO). I have no loyalty when it comes to phones & women
You didn't hear it from me but, YES Clear will be offering both the EVO 4G and EPIC 4G re-branded to unknown names. I cannot confirm this, but I have heard unlimited everything will be cheaper than cricket. NO it will not run gingerbread at release, it will run 2.2 and YES I have seen it. It will be available nationwide, as Clear has changed their marketing strategy to prepare for it's release. They now also sell the 4G/3G combo cards nationwide.
What's the point? Sprint already owns a majority of Clear, and Sprint already markets the EVO and EPIC.
And how can one speculate on whether something will be gingerbread. Code hasn't been released yet, and probably won't be for six months at least. We all know how quick HTC has been with Android updates, though I will admit they were fairly quick with Froyo on the EVO.

LOL. Hard to see sprint calling it in for LTE. The have spent so much money on wimax that it will probably push them under if that happens.
ATT & Verizon is automatic with the fees. This will happen sometime before March roles in. LOL.
T-Mobile will probably get brought out by ATT. Just because they both use GSAM network. But then again, T-Mobile is really big in Europe , so they will probably sell T-Mobile USA.

I have read a lot of threads about what is Sprint going to announce & every single one of them has people saying it's going to be the iphone or a 4G Iphone. Use Google & find how much $ Verizon has & will shell out to get the Iphone. Yes they will make much more in three long run, but I just don't see Sprint spending billions of dollars just to get the Iphone which would not even be an industry first. Don't u think if Apple was going to make a 4G iphone they soul have implemented lte in their Verizon version?

+1 on the iPhone 4g. Sprint big money is going to their network.
Sprint will have both LTE and Wimax, Wimax isn't a wasted investment. They can do both.
Sprint squashed the rumor on the iphone coming to their network via twitter weeks ago. How do people still think this is the big announcement?
I believe Verizon is paying for exclusivity for them and AT&T only to have it for the next few years.
Hopefully its about an update for current Android capable phones to get Gingerbread finally.
With Sprint, I guarantee it won't be a "big announcement". Mediocre announcement at best...
hmm
an iphone 4 with wimax vs a 3d crap...
Wonder which one is better.
Which is better? Anything with Android is better. Why put down 3d phone, especially when you haven't seen it. And don't compare it with TVs, it might be a different experience. I am very interested. Much more interesting then a ho-hum friggin iPhone fer chissakes. Boy, why lower you bar for tech. It should be something new and potentially cool. Just my opinion.
Sent from my Evo
I had a conversation with Sprint and although they did not say what the announcement was the rep did say its an industry first. The iPhone isn't an industry first although a 4G iPhone may be. If it was something to do with the iPhone Apple would probably announce it and not Sprint. Apple like to run their own rodeos. A 3D phone would be a first and if its anything like the Nintendo DS 3D it would be kind of cool but I don't know what platform they would run it on. Windows phone and Android aren't designed for this type of thing.

The iPhone 4 is a soon-to-be obsolete piece of s*** that only Apple fanboys still buy.
3d phone = 1 step forward.
iPhone 4 = 2 steps back.
'Nuff said, methinks.

3d phone isn't industry first less you say "industry" is considered only the US, since they have 3d phone overseas last i checked.

So I guess they are not going to be announcing 3D phones then.

Anything for Sprint?
Nope. All weak minor updates to current phones.
Still gotta wait it seems.....
sent from my 2.2 HTC Hero
underwhelming to say the least
also whoever brought the leno chin back needs to be kicked off R&D, and also could they make the facebook button look anymore like an after thought?
Boo! C' mon htc, quit messing around! Get those quad core snapdragons and get your ass in gear! Still, like tk said, underwhelming.

Sent from my CDMA Hero. I got some hot Froyo-on-Hero action here!

Agreed. Can't wait for the "next gen" android phones
It's killing me to see the lack of phones for Sprint. You would think we'd hear about a Hero 2 or EVO 4G 2 - but nada. I'm sorry but Sanyo just is not what I think of when innovation and exciting are referenced.
I doubt we will hear much of anything for Sprint at MWC, as it's more directed towards the European and Asian markets.

Sprint always does this they get a big flagship phone but then they let them get long in the tooth or a they Target to take on another phone, also they really bank on that phone instead of diversifying
Examples
HTC touch
Samsung instinct
Palm pre
And it looks like the evo will follow the trend atleast it was spec'd decently well to start instead of being DOA like before
I think Sprint is banking on this echo more than they should

Yeah - its reasonable to suspect we wouldn't hear anything but Verizon is out there and they are US based... Either way - nothing impressive for HTC/Sprint thus far.
Aren't they still owned by vodafone though?

When HTC announces new phones, expect Sprint to get rebranded versions months later (see: EVO, Shift, Hero).
seems like sprint always focuses their attention to one or two phones
I wish Sprint would come out with one really nice new phone already, like the evo, but updated to be high-end in the newer market...
The best device, it seems, that was announced by HTC is the Flyer. That looks pretty cool.
and when sprint gets a new android whoever knows when later cellsouth will get it
You think Motorola will finally give Sprint some attention? Verizon brought the majority of Motorola's mobile revenue but now that Verizon will probably be spending the majority of their advertising coin on promoting the Iphone Motorola must be switching gears, as we starting to see with the introduction of the Atrix on At&t.
I'm also a little split with my upgrade. I don't know whether to upgrade on Sprint and risk my 4g device becoming obsolete when Sprint adopts LTE, as one of the top CEO has admitted they are considering, or jump ship and join T-mobile.
Whats your guys opinion on your next upgrade?

Sorry about that went really of track . It meant to be a comment on how Sprint next flagship device will probably be a Motorola device and not a HTC device.
