I have the sprint hero but want vanilla on it. - Android Software Development

I miss the vanilla android i had with my g1 mt3g. is there anyway to port the 1.6 vanilla android onto my sprint hero? besides just closing sense? sense is intergrated through out the phone i want my og vanilla android completely back on the hero.

There's currently one solution to your request. It's AOSP 2.0+ for Hero CDMA. Search for that. Sadly, the camera doesn't work. It's not 1.6, but the Nexus One verson (2.0/2.0.1). It has live wallpapers though!

Root your phone and flash the Damagecontrol ROM. If you remove the right apks in /system/apps you can use the plain ol' home rather than SenseUI. Not completely AOSP, but it's about as good as you'll get for now.
You have a fully working market and camera that way too.

We have an entire forum dedicated to ROMs and development of the CDMA (Sprint) Hero: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=519
I'd recommend you try darchstar's 2.1 AOSP ROM if you can live without camera. quietbclongs made a fantastic AOSP 1.6 ROM, too, that has just about everything you need in it.

AOSP 1.6 or higher with camera?

Can anyone port AOSP 1.6 or higher to our heros with working camera, mms, and sms? I would be willing to donate

At the top of the Hero CDMA page is a tab that says sticky ROMS. That is where we hide all the ROMs for the hero.
1.6, everything works except BT and camcorder. You may have to use handcent for sms/mms (or it may not work for you at all, but you will never know until you try):

I thought about tryin to throw n toast n flipz new kernel into a 1.6 Rom I'm hoping good things happen
Keep us updated on the progress! I loved the AOSP ROMS, just didn't love the lack of certain functionality (Camera).
So, now that I hear the camera is working, I'm going to try one or two out!
The new kernel doesn't support camera on 2.1 not sure about 1.6
Tried the 1.6 rom. SMS didnt work so fail on that. I love darchdroid v1 but i really need camera. I really had my hopes up with the official darchdroid v2 coming out. I could care less about over clocking. Darchdroid v1 was faster than any other rom without oc so no point in putting my hardware at risk. I just hate going back to sense UI. I like basic Android. I also see that the GSM Hero and even the g1 have full functioning eclair roms. I'm sure our time will come soon enough
I'm afraid we won't get a really solid AOSP for 2.1 until HTC releases the 2.1 source for the hero.

Stock Froyo ?

Is their any way to get the stock Froyo Rom on the incredible? I really hate the sense interface notifications bar and lockscreen. I know cyanogenmod has a nightly Rom, but I just want a full stock Froyo Rom like they run on the nexus one.

I don't believe it has been ported yet. Cyanogen is as close as it gets for now.
Sent from my Incredible using XDA app.
Just so you know while you are looking for a stock froyo. Look for "Vanilla froyo" the term vanilla is used to describe the plain, no extra rom. Vanilla froyo is non-sense, non-motoblur, non-xxxxxx....
Letting you know so when you see "vanilla" that is what you are looking for. So cyanogenmod 6 is currently the only supported vanilla froyo that is out right now for the incredible which is constantly being worked on by koush.

Poll: CM6 or future 2.2 sense

Like many other peoples i started with stock(duh) moved to liberated and then to CM6. But today i did some researching and the new sense is pretty cool, hopefully will be added to liberated 2.2. My question is, will you guys be moving back to sense 2.2(hopefully with new sense) or staying with CM6?
I'll probably try Froyo Sense when it gets put in Liberated, but I'll probably stick with CM6 unless I'm completely blown away. I do miss parts of Sense though.
Yes. I know that people are quick to dismiss Sense but I like it a lot, especially after using Motorola phones, that are garbage.
I have used every ROM available for this phone and Froyo with HTC Sense would be perfect for me.
I keep going back and forth between CM6 and a ROM that I tinkered with that is like a hybrid. I really hope they have an official update soon or a ROM that combines everything.
Is that asking for too much?

Ditto.
Now to wait and see.

I want froyo sense mmmmmm.
As long as CM upgrades to using the new kernel thats supposed to be released with Froyo I'll stay loyal to CM.
I'd rather have sense -
For me it will depend on if they add in extra features into the Sense that aren't likely to be added into CM.
CM has been a blessing for this little Aria phone, but I do miss Sense UI.
Does this mean htc's 2.2 for aria is around the corner?:

If given a choice, I'd definitely prefer 2.2 Sense!
I'd go with Sense as I like the UI and many of its widgets.
I enjoy some elements of Sense, as they're very carefully designed and work effectively. Conversely, I will only install a ROM if it's as open and customizable as CM6. Android is supposed to be about a more open system and I don't understand why these companies can't understand the needs of power users.
Sense 2.2
I hate to admit it but I miss the pretty. I also carry the iEvil and it's tough to pull out CM6 and not winch a little. For all the UI haters, there is a good reason big companies spend tons of money on the user experience. Functionality can be enhanced with a great UI.

*crosses fingers*
According to the specs I saw the HTC Bee has a different (inferior) CPU.
There should be enough guts in that ROM to strip out the hardware specific bits and put in Aria ones.
Attn1 -- looked at that yet? Prognosis?
How come non android native (IE:Hd2 ect ) can get froyo sense and we can't ? Not *****in because I can't make it , but someone can . Maybe a good write up on how to build a rom is in order .
I tried and liked the CM6 mod and everything that went with it, but as I dont have an iPod or anything, not having the radio to listen to is a dealbreaker for me.

I was posting that as a possible indication ours is soon to follow. That rom is for a CDMA phone...which means we can probably forget about porting that to the aria.

Stock Gingerbread ROM?

I know this info is probably all over, but my searches come up with a lot of mixed results, and I tend not to trust software I download off a random Google hit.
Are there any straight-up stock Gingerbread ROMs for the Evo that work and are stable? (Broken 4G is alright, but I want all non-phone hardware to work.)
Savaged rom or omgb
Sent from my EVO 3D. Yes I work with Sprint.
isnt CM7 pretty much stock ? i know they add ADW but its 99% stock
The closest thing you'll find is CyanogenMod 7. It works fairly well, has WiMAX, HDMI, GPS is spotty (there's workarounds for it), and has a crapton of customizations available.
I use CM7 + a flashable mod that takes out some CM apps like the file explorer and adds in the stock launcher. That's as close to stock 2.3 plus you get 4G and HDMI.

Well if you want bare bones stock then OMFGB is the only stock 2.3 Tom I know of. It can be found here http://t3hh4xx0r.com/projects-2/projects/omfgb-4/nightly-builds
But if you should know that CM7 will have to most features that are currently working for the evo. All AOSP roms are not specifically written for the evo, therefore new code has to be written in order for it to properly work. That is why it takes some time for them to get all features implemented.
I say give CM7 a shot. Stock 2.3 with many extra tweaks and mods.
Alright.
Does anyone know if the Savaged-Zen kernel works with the OMGB ROM?
Stock as in all AOSP stock? Or stock as in I just bought this phone from Sprint and it has Gingerbread out of the box stock?
CM7 is the closest you going to get to the first one. The second one doesn't exist. The only carrier with an official Gingerbread install is T-Mobile with the Nexus phones.
kommydroid gb build is pure stock, with stock launcher, no 4g though, no special anything just stock as raw can get
No cm is not even close to stock... Salvage is the closest thing that is activley deved on xda.

Sense 2.2 or Sense 2.3 on Hero

Are there any Sense ROMs that are CM-based for the Hero?
My girlfriend has a Hero that I've got rooted running LiquidSense right now (see sig). It's running pretty well, and she likes the interface. Early on I tried installing aospmod to see what she thought of it. She was not a fan. So CM is out of the cards for her. Moreover, I'm not a fan of CM since it seems to be pretty unstable overall. She needs her phone for work. It needs to be stable. And I really don't feel like I should have to update her phone with nightlies just to have something that's been upgraded since last Spring.
So my question is: Are there any STABLE Sense ROMs for Android 2.2 or 2.3? From what I can tell, any development for the Hero is sticking to CM7. I see that there's a Hero theme for CM7 now, but she wants the full Sense experience (incl contacts, etc), and not just the visuals.
There are a couple of 2.2 roms, but I don't think they are complete. If you want a full and complete sense rom, liquid is about it.

Sent from my CDMA Hero. I got some hot Ginger-on-Hero action here!

i too use my phone for work and there are stable versions of the CM variations, the nightlies are for the most part unstable.. the sense integration was cool, but stock android you can do all of the same by installing the apps that integrate the contacts, which essentially is all that HTC did with sense, they just used their own apps (which arent as good).. my wife was a huge sense fan, but after i got her to try something other than sense for a while she came to realize that it wasnt the awesomeness that it was toted to be.. aospcmod (which is android 2.3) is incredibly stable, and there are ways to make the phone look like sense, but in all honesty i dont believe that sense was ever meant to run efficiently (its too fat) on the hero, and they have come out with newer versions of sense that would be better suited for the hero but we cant get them.. like ranger said there is a 2.2 version of sense out there, but pretty sure it isnt that stable.. and the other sense products are just stock, but are "optimized" (meaning they just took some crap out)..
thanks for the response guys. I'll revisit the AOSP roms and see what I can do.
