Is it worth to upgrade from Touch HD to HD2? - HD2 General

I like HD2 in almost every aspect. Except that it's identical to my Touch HD in terms of UI (HTC Sense).
So I'm not quite sure if it's a good idea to buy HD2. I'm also interested N900 and Motorola Milestone.
And about pink tint issue, will HTC resolve it?

Unless you're regularly taking phoot's of white walls or sheets of paper, this really isn't much of a problem.

Isn't the Touch HD also WinMo 6.1 rather than 6.5 on the HD2?

I Had the same dilema - and i am glad i bought the HD2 despite owning the HD... I don't know about you but i kinda look at the old HD differently now

With MIRI's ROm it isn't

to HD2 or HD
Put it this way.
I gave my HD to my girl, and I haven't had the desire to use anything but my HD2 since.

Or put it this way !
Second that! This beast is so fast and smooth that I don't think I'm gonna buy any other phone ever in my lifetime The ROM we are using right now is a stock ROM. Imagine how it's gonna be when the cooked and tweaked ROMs come around. That will be nuclear !

Are you bored that HD2 uses the same OS/UI as the Touch HD (with WM 6.5 ROM)?

HD to HD2
Well,
I have them both side by side at the moment on my desk and just flashed old HD with MIRI rom.
Flashed; the HD is pretty cool but the HD2 beats the pants of it for speed, smoothness and oh the screen. It isn't physically that much bigger or heavier when it's in your hand.
The only thing missing really is the 2nd camera for video calls - but in the year since I had the HD I've only used it twice - and once was just to see it working.
So is it worth it - hell yes.
Just a shame HTC don't upgrade the HD to HD+ (with 6.5 and sense2.5) for those that want the smaller phone but the prettyness of the HD2.
But then - we have the chefs for that. Long live the Chefs.

I have not experience with the HD, but I'm very satisfied with the HD2. It has a few early life-cycle quirks, but nothing in comparison of some of the other "new technology" phones I've had.
I don't think you can go too wrong here unless you're not willing to be a little patient while learning to use the keyboard on a capacitive screen and can live with a wait for a fix on the camera (HW or SW). (That problem is a little more severe than the "take photos of white sheets of paper" someone said earlier, IMO)
/P

Honestly there's really no comparison here; the hd2 is what the touch hd should have been as the former can't even handle htc sense without serious slowdowns. So the answer is hell yeah.

To be honest a lil - but the fluidity, smoothness with the general egonometry of the device is worth it all...

I remenber getting the HD2
Had worked with a HD for 11 months.
HD2 arrives, you unbox it, you look at the screen and think, wow, big !
But then second thoughts came up, the device isn't all
that different, and actually out of the box it is the same
as an upgraded HD.
But, having played for a week, and then picking up old HD again,
only to toss it aside as a legacy, fossil device.
HD2 has no comparison. It's another 11 months of bliss to come, until
Touch HD3 is announced.
Buy the HD2. Do it.

Thanks everybody for your input.
But I'm still concerned about the pink tint issue. It looks quite awful in this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584765

do you use regularly the phone's camera? Probably it will be corrected by software. I've made a few photos with my HD2 but I haven't had this issue, or I cannot see it . So buy it.

This was my original point. If you want to take fantastic digital photo's, don't use a phone camera. Use a proper digital camera. If you want to take quick photo's that you might upload to facebook or twitter or something then use the phone camera and don't worry about tit cos it's really not that bad.

are you stalking me? how did you know about my pink...cough... I mean red MR2?

Dude, take me as a brother.. I had the HD and I feel so sorry i've swaped it.. The HD despite the smaller screen and slower processor, is way more comfortable in hands and looks way way better. If you can live with the wm6.1 or lite wm6.5 , upgrading to HD2 is the worst thing you could do.

I liked the HD2 so much I jumped 6 months early from my HD contract and don't regret it one bit. Excellent speed, layout and screen.

comparison between diamond and diamond2

first of all, sorry if i'm posting something that has been discussed before. the search function didn't prop anything useful, and as you can see i am a user of this forum.
if this has already been discussed, please give me a link of the topic.
my obvious question is if it is worth it to buy the diamond2 instead of putting its software on the original diamond. besides that, how is the better hardware working ? especially the gps chip ? same problems ?
any thoughts are much appreciated. thanks
What can I say... Diamond 2 is better on every aspect compared to the Diamond. I still got my old Diamond and I just started it up and it felt so bad using it if I compare to the D2.
To sum up everything: D2 is BETTER.
it would be strange to be otherwise. I mean, it's Diamond 2 sooo, tehnically, it comes as an upgrade. It would be strange to be a worse phone. Diamond 2 comes with some solutions to problems in D1.
The GPS is okay, after you have downloaded quickGPS, the connection is within seconds (4-5). I'd use iGo with GPS, it's great. Audio is good, many features. Any more questions? Cheers!!!
I had the Diamond for some days and I hated it. The screen is to small for such a device for my POW. The design is also ugly compared to TD2 (my pow again). I actually only got the TD2 because it was cheap and my plan was to sell it again. But I ended up keeping it. I think it's a great phone but battery life could be better.. GPS is working flawlessly tomtom with no probs what so ever
I used the Diamond for over a year.. it was a great phone however it always felt slightly slow, now on the diamond 2 (which i have now) the specs are very similar however the phone feels much much better!
On the diamond I was flashing roms every couple of days, never satisfied.
On the diamond 2 im sitting on the stock rom!!! ..go figure! Fantastic phone.
There was a dust under the screen issue with D2. Any of you owners still experience it or did HTC correct the problem?

u can find pretty nice overview of both over here: http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=2368&idPhone2=2689

Diamond 2 is much better than Diamond in every aspect. But HTC has announced lots of new phones, Touch Pro 2, HD 2. These are all the nice device comparing with Diamond 2. And the HTC LEO will be announced soon. I believe it'll be a great device.
HTC LEO is one gigantic device. I love what it can do but you need a breefcase to carry it around....might as well just carry a netbook.

Yeah, HTC announces phones larger and larger. At first HD is large enough and a little bit larger for porket. Now they announced LEO.....Anyway if the phone is really top device, the size doesn't matter.
I switched from the diamond to the diamond2, and until now i regret it!
Maybe technically the d2's pecs are far more better than the original, but i've had a lot of problems with it. Freezes a lot of times (T-mobile stock rom), and the promised improved battery life is still bad (charge every 3 days, with normal use).
The worst part are the look and feel of the td2. Compared to the original i now have a brick in my pocket, the original was so much slimmer than this one! The t-mobile design is that bad that i can't use any car kit because t-moile decided to use a cap in front of the usb-port.
thanks for the replies guys. especially yours hellboy1970. it was clear that the d2 would be better than the d1 in the usual aspects - hardware, battery life, minor fixes, etc. but what i was asking was if it is actually worth it switching .. i mean, the differences between a customized diamond with all the apps and roms and all that and a, so far, stock d2.
of course the d2 will eventually receive more interest than the d1, and i'll switch too by that time, but right now, money wise and all that.
anyway, thanks. i'm thinking of keeping my d1 until d2 lowers its price a bit
Diamond 1 it's a joke compared to D2...
I just flashed the D2 ROM (AZTOR) to my D1 and i'm really fascinated about what a software can do with a device. First i had O2 SW, then some custom ROMs, then original HTC and now this D2 Rom. It's ingenious.
I see the only real disadvantage of the D1 in the "small" display.
I don't care about my GPS taking 3 mins to find a satellite - i usually know at least the direction where i want to go.
So in my eyes, the D2 is a good and certainly better device, but if you own a D1 it's just not worth switching.

Legend to Desire

Hey all !
i was wondering about selling my legend and buy the htc desire ?
but i thought the htc desire looked pretty big.. ?
but is this a good replacement ?
The desire has better specs but a little lower build quality.
I'd say over all its a great replacement though
On a side note, how much would you be selling your legend for? I'm looking to grab one if its the canadian version
I'm from Faroe Islands (check google or something if you want to know more about it)
im not sure how i could send it to you from here.. :S
and.. i know that the specs are better on the htc desire, but i was thinking about the size.. for me the htc desire looks pretty big, but am i wrong ?

The best comparison I could find is here http://www.omio.com/phones/compare/htc_desire+htc_legend
It seems the desire is just a few millimeters bigger length and width wise, so it shouldn't be a problem at all.
How much are you looking at selling it for? As for the islands your at, I'm really not sure how it would work anyways, international mail or something maybe?

I know this isn't what you asked but...
Have you considered the Nexus One rather than the desire? Same spec but the N1 runs froyo...
On paper the desire/N1 is faster, in reality the gap, as far as I can tell in my research is non existent (although I have heard claims that the legend is much faster due to lower res screen). The legend has less memory however and therefore could run fewer apps at the same time? This has never been a problem for me personally.
Build quality of course is a big change, the N1/Desire feel quite sturdy but the Legend is made of frikkin metal.

just an update, legend should get froyo
BUT
flash 10.1 most likely wont run due to the phones processor, it is not capable of running it, as of now anyways...
however, i'm sure after some time flash may get officially released or the modding community may try and do something about it but thats not something to rely on
desire is actually a reallllly good phone, i say sell the legend and get it!
The legend is hot to look at but like most phones it will get damaged. I had an HTC Hero and using a Desire is great for the bug screen and browsing. That extra half inch has made a good mobile experience great! Gaming wise you probably won't notice a big deal due to the higher resolution. Neocore demo actually was on par and sometimes better than my Desire. The only thing would be the number of apps you could have running at once. Build wise I think the Desire is great, mine is anyway though being machine out of a single block of aluminium certainly gives it a feeling of solidity.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
i actually just found out that you can use the htc evo flash 10.1 on the legend running froyo with a small work around and it apparently works near flawlessly so it should take much for a full unhacked version to become released. if not the hack version will do just fine
I have one question about the Nexus One..
if i want trackball light on it, do i need to take in half, and install a LED to it, or is this already done ? so i only need boot the phone to get custom LEDs ?

anything without a trackball, my curve 8330 has a trackball and it always gets stuck. go with a trackpad or nothing.

there are tons of phones out there that are equal if not better then the nexus, just do a little research for what you like best
i'm still probably going to grab a legend either way though

Buying an Android Phone

Desire HD or HTC HD2

I want to buy a new smartphone. What is the best?
Is there other options because those phones are both nice but there are newer ones with dual core about the same price as those phones. If you want versatility then the HD2 is the phone for you. if you want pure android from the door and dont really want the hassle of messing around then I would go withe the Desire HD. I have the HD2 and i love the phone alot of development for it but it is getting old. I would go with the Desire HD.

Grip of death issue on the Sensation...and the nail to the coffin for the Sensation is that other brands do offer better per dollar value...such as SGSII. lol.
Between HD2 and Desire HD, go with the Desire HD, its a far newer phone with improved CPU and GPU as well as other small tweaks such as the camera, most importantly, a far more superior operating system...HD2 had a lot of issues with the digitaliser...

If I were you I would not consider hanging with these phones. Though very popular phone but...I would put 10% more on the top of my budget n bought the new dual core phones like sensation or GS2.
I got DHD now. I like it but there are couple of other phones more powerful, better GPU and better battery life.
Decision is yours: If no last options I would prefer DHD far better specs than HD2

I'm also tempted to buy a S2 galaxy.
People b*tch about it being plastic but you have very good plastic and bad metal if you know what I mean, as long as the chassis is sturdy.
Also rf-signals (gps, wifi, bt and gsm (still a phone)) pass through plastic more easily than metal.
For one I would not buy a HD2 anymore if it would be your only phone.
Like someone said, hardware issues. Head down to the hd2 forum and you will see loads of people complaining about bad blocks, digitizers etc. things that are not really replacable etc.
As being a 'toy' phone then yes the HD2 is fantastic.
I now have the DHD but I'm still not sure that I like it. I also have a ZTE blade (yes the cheap thing) and it beats the DHD in wifi, gps and loudspeaker (as being able to hear something not like a tweeter on the DHD)
The DHD on the other hand is faster, has a better camera (still seeing pink spot, check a grey wall and bump up colour and contrast) and larger screen (did I say that the ZTE screen was brighter also?).
So it all depends on your needs.
I would love to testdrive a couple of phones and compare them for a week.
There are 2 things about SGS2 which wins over Sensation. It's Super Amoled bright screen and it's light weight!
Downside: very cheap looking phone! seems like bought from a $2.00 shop lol
Sensation: It's got sense 3.0 because it make sense! a bit lagging If I'm not wrong my DHD runs smoother than HTC sensation. > May be they have fixed with the new update!
NOT to overwhelm OP with these ideologies . Ya should have these things in mind before buying your SMART PHONE. Or else you'll end up regrating. Now we say HD2 is old 2,3 months later you'll say to Sensation or GS2. It's all Money and Marketing but on top of that you should consider your own needs and requirements from a smart phone.

Trust me.....get a HTC Desire!!!!
Owned my desire for a week and it's BRILLIANT compared to HD2 problems.
matt
As few have mentioned the DHD has better hardware spec than the HD2.
What nobody has mentioned though is the screen is way better on the DHD especially in terms of accuracy of typing, thats what i've found anyway...
If they are your only 2 choices defo the DHD in my experience...
DHD is better than HD2,they are uncomparable, but why not another newer and more powerful dual core phone? The two of them are out of fashion now.
I think the Desire HD is still a very good phone compared to the newer generation phones (SGS2, Sensation) and a viable option. It depends on what features you need though.
Why?
-Dualcore does not bring any real advantages right now. When apps really profit from it there will be better phones. + it usually uses more power than singlecore.
So the speed improvement compared to a DHD is very minimal and probably not noticable in general.
-DHD has one of the best custom rom support. From different Sense 2.1 and Sense 3 roms to Cyanogen or MIUI variations you can flash what you want on your DHD. Custom roms on the newer phones are still in early developement.
-Software from both SGS2 and Sensation isnt quite there imho. Touchwiz is well... touchwiz, and SGS2 has some problems with 3d games and overheats sometimes. And somehow the sensation just doesnt feel that smooth (i had the feeling sense 3 on my DHD runs smoother^^) we can only hope updates will correct that.
I could go on. But in my opinion upgrading from a DHD to one of the newer phones is something you should only do if you have more than enough money on your bank.
But you're in another situation. You need a new phone and if money is an issue i think the DHD is still a good option (forget the HD2 its just too old). Its not without flaws but neither are the newer phones.
I will stick to my DHD for at least another year. But if I would be in your spot(and money wasnt an issue) right now id probably go for the Sensation with a good custom rom (they should be out soon with the bootloader unlocked now).
The SGS2 is very good, but there are some things that are dealbrakers for me. For example the screen. Everyones praising it to heaven but i think its just awefull to look at^^ Colors are way off. And stuff mentioned above..

Ah, I'm not alone in thinking that then? Full brightness, looks fine - anything less and the SGSII has a green tint to it. Yuck.

Once you have a screen this big, anything else will appear too small. Go for it
The screen has very good resolution, outside in bright sunlight you won't see much - although that is true for any phone.
The downside is battery life, the battery is underpowered for so much screen. You can do a lot here though, choose a custom ROM, manage all sorts of advanced settings - even buy a Mugen 1500mah battery which actually provides the power it professes to ( search on the DHD accessories thread - DON'T buy an ebay battery).
Front camera... I had a Sony Ericsson X1 a couple of years before the DHD, and NEVER used the front camera. Video calls just haven't taken off. However, I've just installed a modified version of Skype that allows video calls over IP. Time to invest in a mirror!
In short, the limitations are minor, limited battery life = a function of its screen size, which you will immediately appreciate. All in all, an excellent piece of kit.

Hi im considering getting the dhd although I have a few questions and opinions. First how good is the screen quality of the device compared to say slcd screen on the desire? And second I would like to hear others opinions, if the dhd had a front facing camera how often would you use it?

I owned HTC HD2 for 12-13 mths....and although the HD2 was a good phone, it had just WAY TOO many little peoblems...would restart anywhere from 1-20 times a day, IMMPOSIBLE to use mobile data or play games too long etc as it would heat up and freeze....etc etc etc.
I've had my desire about 3 weeks and LOVE IT!!!
Not one retasrt, not one freeze...not even one force close on any apps yet!!
IMHO - HTC Desire HD....EATS the HD2 for breakfast!!

If you like custom rom
Dhd got the most support.
Still very beautiful device.

Screen is fine, haven't directly compared it with the Desire but nothing to complain about here. Front facing camera I wouldn't use at all.
But, although I love my DHD I couldn't recommend buying a year old device, @Paulobrien has struggled to squeeze the sense 3.5 rom onto the DHD and unless your getting a real bargain i.e free of charge without contract I'd look at a newer device.

Friend of me has the desire with amoled screen and compared to my desire hd with slcd screen it looks way better. And the dhd screen is good enough, nothing to complain about.
and thanks to developers, with custom roms you can get three most out of the device. Go ahead, buy it, you'll love it. Thanks to the screen size it's even pretty good for reading ebooks

yup front facing camera is not a must to a phone. if you have YM installed or Skype you can use the back camera so they can see you..
