Hi, does anyone know where I can get a screen protector for the touch sensitive buttons on the bottom portion of the screen? Those buttons seem like they would get scratched easily and I just want to make sure they are protected.
have a look on ebay
!!!
Take the scrissors and make it !!!
Get an invisible shield that covers your entire phones body and you won't be sorry.
Takes some patience to install but well worth it.
I don't think this would be a good idea, as that bottom portion is capacitive wouldn't covering it with anything render it useless?

I have an "screen" protector over the buttons and I can tell you they still work correctly.
I have the invisible sheild installed on mine and I had no idea it was touch sensitive until blamo I zoomed in acouple days ago when Iwas sliding my thumb around so yes it still works and I recommend the invisible sheild butyou have to take your time follow the instructions and be paitent or you will hate it cause you will have funked it all up and well thats your fault then.
to be honest, the bottom section wont get scratch very easily, just the DPAD or the little inner bowl part but other than that the rest of the part seems that u have to be aggressive to it in order to see scratches, i always clean that part with an old tshirt and when it showed under the sun i dont see any of those scratch marks...sooo im guessing the finish is scratchproof or im really stupid that there is a protector on it already that i cant tell from looking at it <_<
any suggestions?

not entirely accurate, i accidentally put keys and my phone in the same pocket (in my jeans) one day, when the worst thing happen, the bottom area got scratched, fortunately the screen had a screen protector but the bottom part didnt , i highly suggest getting it just to be on the safe side
I went with invisibleshield for the body and martinfields for screen/bottom buttons:

The clarity on the screen part is amazing, and the bottom section is adequately protected. (note the scratch i got on it already, haha)

Hi guys, I just noticed that on the right side of the X1 (the side with the camera shutter button), in the chrome section, there is a very fine "joint" right in the middle.
It doesn't look like it was caused by damage however I never noticed it before until just then, and I haven't seen anyone else's x1 to verify, could anyone check their x1 if they got such "joint" ? Thanks heaps.
Regards,
Eric
anyone please? hope someone can spend 2 seconds to respond whether it is normal... thanks..
i would be very helpful if you took a picture of what you think might be wrong. I would like to answer your question but unfortumately I do not know what "joint" you are talking about.
well I would have took a picture too.. unfortunately I do not have access to a proper camera now and the camera on the mobiles that I have access to does not show enough detail to show that "joint" or gap.. its like a very fine gap in the middle of the chrome bits on the casing...
just wondering do you happen to have any "gaps" (the gap is like very very fine.) at all on the chrome that is on the phone? it is between the camera button and the volume button.
I have looked at mine very carefully (x1a) and do not notice any gap/joint that you refer to.
i have that to by the camera button i think its normal.
No, there is none on my X1i. The chrome is just one piece all the way around the phone. Your's could be a crack in the chrome.
do you mean the lines here its like a joint???
Comodoor,
Those are just normal mold lines from the casting. If you look at the opposite side of the phone, the lines goes to the opening of the speaker.
My guess it erichui is talking about the chrome band around the side of the phone.
i tought he was talking about those lines i said it was normal.
it was more clear if erichui could upload pics
Hi guys, sorry about the lack of picture, I have finally got hold of my camera and here is a picture of the "joint" that I am talking about. it is very small however I can't recall if it was there since I had it the first day.. its not big deal but I would just like to know if it was there before or is actually a "crack" caused by some other reasons.

this side is the camera shutter side btw, and that "joint" is only on the camera shutter side...
Thanks guys for the replies.
I don't have this "joint" on my x1.
Maybe you scratched it with a zipper on your pocket or something?
Nope, I do not have that, i remember somebody talking about that (i don't know if it was this forum or esato) and he mentioned it was not a crack. just something that happend during molding process - aesthetics.

Hi Skycamefalling, I do not believe that is a scratch, becuase if I look carefully down from the screen, I can see that "joint" in the inside of the chrome as well. So its either there due to the molding process, or caused by something else. Another reason I asked is because this "joint" just cuts off right in the middle and looks very "aligned" to me, but I haven't noticed it until today..
can't see it on my black one.

Hm...when it's no scratch then I could be a failure from the injection moulding process -maybe a small particle that was inside the mould when the parts opened. It can't be a "joint" because the mould can't be split like this. But I wouldn't bother about it as long as the plastic doesn't fall to pieces
Checked my black X1a, no joint at all on the camera shutter side.
alright thanks guys. just wanted to verify not going to worry about it then but at least I know it is not "designed" to be there
Hi everyone,
I have a peculiar problem. Somehow something (probably a tiny piece of cloth) is stuck at the very end of the stylus holder hole/sleeve. Now the stylus doesn’t get completely in anymore and I don’t think such small tweezers exist to extract this object.
I am considering opening the device up but the upper right screw has a sticker saying “void” on it, and I really wouldn’t want to void the warranty.
Has anyone had this problem before? If so how did you resolve it?
Thanks
I think opening up the whole device should be the last option, as you will loose your warranty probably.
What have you tried so far? Maybe you can go into the sleeve with something like a conductor and try to pull this tiny piece of cloth out.
I've tried with a toothpick but it was too small. I am thinking of buying a disposable medical syringe that should be longer and provide some suction to ge the thing out, but I am a bit scared of damaging something by "going to deep"
Uncurled paperclip?
try a vacuum cleaner?! perhaps he can vacuum it out ...
Sticky tape or blutack on the end of the stylus?
Kev
Thanks for the advice everyone. I've tried an uncurled paperclip. Even managed to make a tiny hook at the end of it but nothing. whatever is in there is well stuck to the bottom.
I am thinking of sending it back to htc under warranty. I'll play dumb and say I have no clue why I can't get my sylus completely in (which is not too false). I am hoping they'll open it up to check whether there is some fault, and, if they really find something stuck in there they might just take it off.
What do you guys think?
You should try something like that:

Run the device under a very high pressure fireman's hose, or one of the ones they use when stripping rust off ships paint (just dont get your fingers in the way).
That should do it.
well i found the HD sevice manual in pdf somewhere so if you need to open it i can say DONT DO WITHOUT MANUAL! lots of mistakes are possible when trying on yer own.
pm me for it if you are in need.
The diamond had a problem like this.....
there is a magnet that the stylis slides through....
on some diamonds it can come unglued.....and then the magnet can move
just wondering if this could be the same problem....you never know
Hi
Yesterday I had a bit of accident - I've caught with my fingernail one of the hardware buttons for softkey actions and it slightly pop-up. Some photos:
http://my.opera.com/lwiczek/albums/show.dml?id=780762
the problem is it hinders sliding the keyboard back (i can push it and then slide keyboard but it's damn annoying ). I've tried to push it hard back (or something) with the hope it will "glue" itself back, but that didn't work. I don't know how the keys are attached to the rest of the phone but I'd be glad for any tips on how to fix it (preferably without taking the phone apart ).
The keys are all joined together with thin plastic between the kays. They do not contact the circuit board directly. Theres is rubber membrane layer after the keys and then another white layer with metal discs that contact the board.

It should be possible therefore to put a spot of a soft (PVA type) glue under the key and hold it down until dry, without it damaging the keyboard.
Mike
Thanks, I've pull up a bit broken key (with the whithis foil under it), put a bit of glue and it seems to be fixed (tho it doesn't click anymore and it's harder to press, but at least sliding back works now :] )
Thanks!

Probably as good as you can do. The click is made by the little metal disc moving in and out. With the little bit of glue perhaps it softens the click but so long as it works. Well done.
Mike
As it turned out I've put a bit to much glue (what is 'too much' at this amount anyhow? (; ), and key got glued to the rest of the keyboard casing and got stuck permanently. I've tried to separate it, tho with little succes. I'm looking at it from the bright sight - at least there won't be any more any accidental sending of sms, and the another key (on the main part of phone) is still working
Thanks for help eitherway!

Well as you say you can work around the problem. There are keyboards for sale on various websites so if it is a real problem it could be changed.
Mike
No, it's not a problem (as I said in previous post - i still have touch screen and another button). I was just updating the post with notice of my failure (;
Probably will be changin phone in few month either way
I am a proud magic owner but as some users have found out like me, it is a slippery fish when it comes to its glossy covers. At first I did not use the slightly camp white leather pouch the magic comes with and now I am regretting it.
The phone has now acquired some bumps and scraps. I thought to my self I would replace the phone covers. So I ordered some on the bay and got them sent to my office.

I hunted down the service manual for the phone. (If anyone is looking for this I have it uploaded here).
I merrily went to work disassembling it bit by bit until I came across a slight problem. Now I have uploaded pictures to illustrate my woes.
First the battery cover was completely rubbish, the brushed steel plate that surrounds the camera was dented and also had the metal grate missing which usually covers the speaker. This was not the biggest worry however.
When I dismantled the phone I got to the stage of separating the the front cover from the middle part of the case. Now as you can see on this picture on the back of the mid section of the case there are two white label like stickers which have gold contacts on the inside.
There are more of these labels on the antenna at the bottom of the phone also. They make contact with gold contacts on the phones main board. I assume the bottom antenna is the gsm antenna and the the contacts on the top are for the gps. I could be wrong though this could be the other way around.
The problem is these label type contacts are not present on my new case mid section as I have shown here in this picture.
Has anyone else had any experience with changing the covers on this phone. Or if these contacts are important or even if its possible to find these labels so I can fit them to my new case.
Cheers for any help you can give me, or if any of this info is useful to you also if you are in the same sticky situation.

bumpity bump!
you could try contacting htc, maybe someone could be friendly enough to point you in the right direction. also email the vendor you got the parts from and say the housing is unusable. I ran into a similar problem with my g1, which ended up having the housing all jacked up.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Thanks for your help, I will see if I can find out anything and post my findings.
Vale
Just curious, have you tried removing the stickers? Would they just rip apart? Is that the only complication?
You might be able to find a bricked/waterdamaged magic and change the housing without all the drama.
hey check this out too, it may help:

My phone is stock 4.4.2 with recent updates and not rooted. No issues at all just few small issues.
1) This is a weird one, if I play a video and sometime after closing video player the screen becomes like high sharpness, the white color in the screen increases. Its hard to notice but it does. But after turning off the screen and turn on again it became normal. Also I tried taking screenshot of both condition but all looks normal in that, only visually I can see that. Anyone see this issue ever?
2) Skype is very important for me for work and in its setting > Notification > I checked Vibration but it never does. Its notification sound cant change also its very low to hear outside. Please advice.
3) Spen: I dont know if its usual for everyone as I didnt tried any other Note 3 but in my phone the Spen is not responsive mostly at the screen edges. Suppose drawing a line it ends before the screen edge and mostly same all sides. I’ve a screen protector but that is not a thicker one. Its very thin so I doubt if the screen protector could cause this.
1- I notice that all the time ur not the only one
2- try clearing the skype data and reinstall it.
3- no problems with spen on my phone. I have a pretty thick screen protector on it as well. I didnt understand by unresponsive if u meant dead spots or just slower to draw but either way no problems on my handset.
Cheers!

Thanks for your feedback.
1) Its good to know I’m not alone, and probably a OS fault. Hope on next update this will be fixed.
2) I don’t want to clear skype data as I don’t want to lose chat histories. Somewhere I read this will require to enable Vibration 1st on setting and then it will work. But I have already enabled vib for call. Don’t know if there have any other option in setting to enable vibration.
3) By unresponsive I mean it works flawlessly but I’ve to press it little hard on the screen to write properly. With firm writing or light gentle pressure if draw a straight line across the screen it creates a line like this ------------- gap ------------- gap ------------------------
Also it was not working on a particular spot (attached image) but today I found it was due to the flip cover magnet. If I keep the magnet away it works perfectly.
