WM Dev ideas from new iPhone Apps - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

I just came across this and thought it was pretty interesting app for the iphone. Wanted to share it with the community just in case any of the developers in here are intending on working (or currently working on) a program launcher.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFITXsB56Z4
Two items that caught my attention was:
1) Home screen plug-in like cLauncher / iLauncher but with finger friendly scrolling feature. Scrollable up or down like PocketCM or flickable pages like in PointUI clock/calendar/tasks.
2) Click on the edge and it has a Mac dock style launcher. Would be nice to have a button in the tray that when tapped could popup a launcher like this.
Or heck...why not have a Finger Friendly Start Menu?? What is the #1 application that all of us use on daily basis? Of course...our Start Menu.
As a website developer I like having people show me new website ideas. It helps inspire me. So just wanted to do the same when I come across something that might interest you Devs in here

Nice !. I wish we had something similar for wm6

Damn.. iPhone's UI is already awesome and they're making it even more awesome! When are we going to see such quality in WM's UIs? *sigh* The moment thay make an iPhone with 3.5G. I'm getting one!

u'll have to wait till 2009 or 2010 for it as its the release year of WM 7 a.k.a Touch

Yup kinda sad that all these iphone hackers/developers have a big advantage. They don't have to fix the OS like our Devs do. Our WM devs are handicapped in that way.
We do have a lot of great non-finger friendly apps out there, but just nice to have these iphone-esque apps for the quick tasks that shouldn't entail us taking out our stylist or use the slide out keyboard.

Super Developers! (Like Super Friends)

I think if you can get A_C, Thundershadow14, tene, Slither2006 and some other developers in one to make the ultimate app interface that we will ever see.
Count Schaps in. He is working on such a project now too.
I'd love to be involved with the KILLER WinMo app too if possible. My strength is in UI/Graphics design, and I've recently released my VistaMobile theme to the masses. It's been downloaded a fair amount of times. Would be nice to create one "super-shell" without the need for Wisbar/FTouchFLO/S2U2/etc., but of course still having all of that functionality!
I know there's that "PointUI" app coming out, but I still think it could be better (it's in beta of course, so things may change)...
Hopefully 2008 will be the year that Windows Mobile puts the competition to sleep. Now we just need HTC to bring us the OMNI, or any dream hardware that goes above and beyond the Universal!
This is what I was thinking of doing. We have most of these apps in development we just need to add them all together. I know some of these apps are in different coding programs. I am sure we can find away to do it? I am a UI/Graphics design also but the more help is welcome b/c then each of us have a app to design but of course we all need to agree on the design too. I hope everyone that i mention in the first post is down on doing this. Also getting help from other developers too. if i didn't mention you that doesn't mean i don't want you to help i just don't want to mention everyone.
Thanks,
P.S.
OK PointUI pretty much took my idea on what i wanted to do with the finger scrolling!!! Darn Darn Darn. Anyway if we all put all our heads together I think we can come up with something unique.
Come on TENE, say something at least!!
and AC etc...
SPEAK OUT!
Don't forget two big developers from the early days Molski and Faria. started developing ROM's for the Wizard. And see Anichillus at www.anichillus.net/. he's working on a vista interface for the ppc.
A vista interface?! About time.I used to like eXPerience http://www.digitalexpedition.com/main/index.htm when I had the JAM. Maybe somebody could work on that app too....
I think we can all work on the PointUi project and make it the new interface for WM6.
It could be the ultime interface if we can replace the old interface of WM6.

My thought as well!
PointUI is simply amazing but it still needs a lot of development to be done.
SuperDevelopers > PointUi
PointUI - future app!
working together
well i need people to pm me if they are interested in doing this. i want to know if everyone wants to work together on this development. Now that pointui is out and winmo 7 just news release it maybe to late but i have seen lots of development of the new screen shots like schaps(today screen) , tenes(pocketcm) , a_c(s2u2) , thundershadow(PocketMelody) and slither(cube) that is in development but i cant mention everyone. if we can add this all in one Gui think this will be great app.

Best iPhone Theme?

hi, i searched up 'iphone' in this forums and found a lot of iphone themes. i think the Torx-Development one and iFonz from ssj5trunks are the best. can you tell me which one looks and acts more like the iphone?
do you have to launch a program to make the theme work or does it start automatically hen i start the phone?
can you change the backgrounds of the themes?
thanks

I would have to agree with you. The animation when the icons are pressed is near identical to the iPhone's.
My opinion? Don't try to emulate the iphone on your PPC.
I own both an Iphone and an HTC Trinity, and i can tell you no program can come close to the incredible interface of the iphone. First and FOremost, the screen size, not to mention the smoothness of the animations.
So - either you get an iphone (Like I did), or you live with the "uglier" PPC GUI, but get advantage of much more functionality.
Just my 2 cents
Honestly, I used to be obsessed with making my phone look like the iPhone because I was planning to get one, but 3 days before it came out I got an 8525 instead because the iPhone was missing to many features that was important to me. So then I was skinning it to look that way, then it just got boring. I would reeally really reccomend SPB Mobile Shell 2. I really think its the best thing around, because it sex's up the hell out of Windows Mobile and makes it totally finger friendly and smooth. Plus with all the advances people are making customizing it, its becoming even better.
But if you absolutely had to, use iFonz.
can you change the keyboard and EVERYthing in itask to look like the iphone? or can i use resco keybaord and othe third arty plugins?
my family has an iphone, but im using windows mobile because of the more features
it started out as a little project for myself, and myself only.
i feel like the iphone ui is very intuitive and simple with a visual style thats pleasing.. theres nothing wrong with trying to mimic an easy to use interface.. and its to hold me over until att gets its network straight, and a 3g iphone is released.
thank you.

I am also waiting on that 3g iPhone. Was that, no video recording, and PTT that kept me from purchasing. I expect those features on the next iPhone release(except PTT) and I will be buying it then.

****...the Sony Ericsson Xperia is going to blow the iphone away
...and AT&T is going to carry it. Cha Ching

I'm starting to love the HD

it cost me €584
and its working well, no problems with hanging or soft reset,
love it more and more, everytime I use it
ok, some minor things happend... some problems with third party applications such as spb pocket plus (drop down menu not working) but now its one week of usage and it works as expected from HTC
Lol, this is going the wrong way with these two threads .
Yet, I love it as well... So I hope it gets delivered soon .
..... peace everybody
Two thumbs up!
Agree, I think it is the best yet from HTC.
Not perfect IMHO, but the cooks will sort that out fairly quickly I am hoping (paypal at the ready lol).
Things that would perfect it for me?
Hmm, coffee maker?
No seriously, it would be nice if TF3D were more customisable in an easier fashion. And if Opera were just that little bit quicker.
Already done the Thumbcal & iContact hacks.
I love my Touch HD too..Best product yet from HTC and the best WM device I've ever used.
The OP of the hate thread is trolling....anyone with a history of Windows Mobile devices realizes its not for the average joe and WM6.1 is not perfect either, but has so much more customizability and abillities it is worth the hick-ups. I think WM 7 will take away all gripes about WMobile and the devices carrying it.

[REQ] iphone-style startmenu / NO honeycombs!

hey there,
is there a way to get the startmenu in iphone-style, so that there's not that ugly honeycomb-style in every menu?
important for the .cab is, that it changes every menu to the new, so also the "more" at settings, subfolders and so on.
tried several searchs at this forum, but got no results, only how to change the amount of columns.
thanks in advance.
s
for the hd they used to have a guy called tom cordan who made a cool start menu app dunno if hes done it for the hd2
please no offence !!
But it you want something that looks like and Iphone.... Maybe you should get the real thing.
Sorry but I think you bought the wrong phone
Come on guys this "just go buy an iPhone" response is a lazy, unfriendly response that seems to crop up on here as soon as anyone mentions an iPhone.
I have a HD2 and love it, but you can't deny that the iPhone OS has some clear advantages (in terms of style and use) over WM, and until we get WM7 what is wrong with asking if customisations are possible to make things more iPhone like?
Just because I might want a better interface or more stylish apps doesn't mean that I have forgotten the benefits that WM has over the iPhone in other areas, which is (for most of us) why we have the HD2 and not the iPhone

Agree 100%.
I couldn't stand the honeycomb program list when I tried it on my Diamond - much preferred the original layout. Don't think I ever said "Oh well, Iphone for me then...!"
Google "Numpty"
I don't like the honeycomb, too. But I also don't like an iPhone. I just want the icons to be side by side.

As much as I have distaste for his quest to make the HD2 look iPhone-esque, I can understand his aversion to the terrible locked-down/-in operating system, and subpar hardware.
: )
A good way to replace the default Start screen and add the ability to define 2 Favourites screens as well as accessing Programs and Settings is to use Panoramic Launchpad . Costs $4 and worth every penny

I've never seen that app before (and I'm seen them all!) but that is very neat indeed! Will give that a go for sure, even though I'm "non-honeycomb" on my Diamond! And for only $4, it would be rude not too!
Cheers for the heads up.
Guys.. really i wasnt being lazy neither unfriendly.
I was giving my opinion on this matter.
Have to say i am A happy HD2 owner. and i do appriciate some aspects of the Iphone. And the community.
But (little bit off topic) remember the time when there was this program callled STYLEXP.
Where you coud re style every aspect of windows.
So you had your pentium II running windows 98 and you could not tell it it was OSX or something.
The red nissan in front of you on the road. small thing. has a 1.6 engine. But its bumper stickers tells you its a V16.
The girl who goes out shopping, but she is on a tight buget. so she goes shopping in her favorite budget store. as soon as she leaves the shop, she trades the bag of the bugdget shop for a bag from tiffanies.
Again i am sorry if i offended anyone not my intention.
But I would love to make the HD2 even more usefull. But i dont like the idea to make it look like some other phone be it iphone or a samsung or whatever.

With WM7 looking increasingly crap, do you think HTC will continue to develop Sense?

I was expecting Sense development to dwindle to nothing over the next year, with WM 7 on the horizon.
But with WM7 looking increasingly poo (from today's announcements: no removable storage card, no customisations, limited copy/paste, no file manager, DRM all over, and generally all the problems the iphone had 4 years afo), I'm hoping we may see a decent after-life from 6.5.
Not that I like 6.5: It's customisable, a sound operating system, and an open-platform, but it's also clunky and ugly as hell.
But I'm hoping we may now see Sense continue to evolve (new Facebook tab etc), when before I was expecting it to come to a halt, minus the odd patch here and there.
Anyways, I love Sense. It masks 6.5 very well and is a great interface for a mobile phone. Here's hoping it will become more extensible and feature-filled in the future.

Yup, for Android.
Hello, Desire.
Hi,
To be honest, from what I've seen of Windows Phone Series 7 I'd rather have Sense or a sense like interface on any operating system rather than use the "7" interface. HTC will continue to develop Sense, but will they be able to do so for "7"? Potentially they may be allowed to create a portal to Sense within the "7" Interface scheme (sorry, I can't remember what you call each of the tabs on "7", I found it too boring to remember when watching the various MWC videos. I wasn't "Super Excited" )but you probably wouldn't be able to have the phone boot up into that as a default interface for the full phone and you might not be able to use sense for certain functions (messaging dialer etc.). This is all speculation on my part of course).
HTC introduced a new version of Sense on Android at Mobile World Congress and stated that existing Sense users on Android will get a free upgrade. I expect HTC to keep developing it.
With a gtood enough interface, connectivity, function and features I really shoudn't care what the underlying operating system is.
My honest opinion.
Althougg i like the look of wp7s i think its not efficent in the sense you need to do too much scrolling to navigate. The best use of speedy navigation is icons in a grid format so you see more links per page and less scrolling. like the iphone. btw i love my hd2 and never owned an iphone.
I'm definitely choose "Sense" rather than "I-**** like WM7"...
Seems Android is the way to go..
I was pretty excited seeing the live launch thing. It looked pretty cool, fresh, original UI if you will. Right now I'm actually thinking about sticking with 6.5. That OS can do almost anything when compared to that non-multitasking protected and closed off bunch of tiles... I don't know right now, I'll need it on my device at least once.
That being said I'm too starting to hope on further development of Sense. As said above, it's a really great and fast UI to use and looks good too. And you can customize it, 'make it yours', right?
Grtz
Lukas
well
I agree. with what I have see and heard I am not interested in WM7. If 6.5X still gets developed I will stay otherwise I will move to Android.
However until WM7 is actually released I will sit on the fence. As previously seen a lot of facts seem to be unproven in the long run.

The title fonts are huge and it other font sizes could be smaller. I know that WP7s wants WVGA initially.. but all the screen I've seen seem to make me think they didn't use the space efficiently. It seems more like they designed it for HVGA.
I doubt HTC will continue Sense for WM considering WM7 you CANNOT have Sense UI at all so why even bother..
I also think HTC is moving more towards Android now..
I myself have been tempted to move to Andriod but i've been a WinMo user since dunno when and have gotten soooo used to it i can't imaging moving to a new OS altogether and i love the HD2...no way i'm going to have WinMo7 in it even if it does get supported..
No WVGA, No Cut & Paste, No File explorer, No Sense UI, no Flash, No installs from cab files, not backward compatible...with more to come each day...Why would i even want to use Winmo7? It sounds sooo primitive.
Who knows after the HD2, I just might move to Android, not because i want to but because ultimately i believe i have to...
You know, I used to be Apple sheep, and only recently (1 year) I started using windows and dabbled here and there on Linux, and realized how much freedom you have on these devices and not being told what programs are cool to use and all that.
iPhone was cool because I didn't know any better.
Now that I've started to see just what windows/mobile has to offer, I feel like Neo, waking up in the tank from the Matrix.
And here's Windows Phone 7 Series. Microsoft killed the little resistance group and the only salvation they offer is to go back to the tank and back to the Matrix.

It does seem like Microsoft is turning it's back on those loyal to Windows Mobile to appeal more to the iFashion brigade. I foresee this pushing a lot of us away from WPS7 towards Android.

Please stop telling BS.
Have a look at the little discussion about the WP7 emulator image, a lot of stuff in there is similar to WM6.5, so there's a lot of "openness" to hacks...

XDA is gonna pull through for us one way or another.
You have my word.
If HTC calls time on Sense for WM, I hope they will unlock some of the features so we can customise it (e.g. new/unlimited tabs)
