Starting up SQL Developer 2.1 opens MS-DOS command window on XP
I've successfully installed SQL Developer 2.1 and it works just fine except for one annoying "feature". It opens an "empty" MS-DOS command window which I suspect is for startup error messages. If I close the window, it closes SQL Developer. I've used search terms such as "MS-DOS", "window", "startup", and others unsuccessfully. My questions are: 1) Is this MS-DOS command window known under another name? If so, what is it? 2) Is there a way to automatically close this window if SQL Developer starts up successfully? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!
That just happened to me installing 2.1 on Vista Enterprise. I got the window once, cancelled and haven't gotten it since but 2.1 still came up anyhow. I don't remember if I got the window when I installed on XP. Evita Edited by: Evita on Jan 6, 2010 8:09 AM
I discovered the answer in the thread: SQL developer hangs frequently with blank window_, in one of Jim Smith's replies on how to open a "console" window for debugging startup errors. My desktop icon executes sqldeveloper.exe from C:\oracle\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin instead of C:\oracle\sqldeveloper.
