Spool from SQL Developer 2.1
Hi all, i have various scripts that use spool to write results to text files. When i run these scripts i get errors for commands like "spool" and "prompt". It's possible to run this scripts and generate spools from my SQL Developer 2.1? Thanks in advance.
Well, looking at the help center in 2.1, it shows spool IS and IS NOT supported. Prompt is supposed to be supported and I know it was in 1.54 as I use it in one of my scripts. What does the error message say? Evita Edited by: Evita on Jan 6, 2010 10:43 AM
We've found that scripting in SQL*PLUS is easier for us. Of course, we've been using it for years and years ... Evita pointed out that SQL*Developer's scriptiing capabilities are more limited than SQL*PLUS'. You can simulate spooling by executing the query(queries) as a script in the SQL worksheet and then saving the output pane. Athough the prompt command probably won't work in SQL*DEVELOPER you can still use substitution variables, instead getting a default window with the name of your substitution variable allowing data entry.
Hi, and thanks for your reply. The error message says: Error starting at line XX in command prompt **** Error report: Unknown Command
Hi riedelme, and thanks for your reply. You'r right, i can copy the results in the messages-log window and paste in a text file, but i need to minimize the time to get all information and this solution also require that the original scripts to be modified deleting "prompt" commands and others. But, i think this is the better solution for now. Thanks. to you and for Evita too.
Just FYI - I took my script that has about 1/2 dozen PROMPT commands and it did work in 2.1. The one command I keep forgetting to take out is SET LINESIZE. That SQL Developer doesn't care for but will run the script nonetheless Evita

Run the SQL as Script 2. Look at output in the script output pane and use the save (floppy disk) icon to save the contents of the pane
Hi all, thanks for your responses. I've updated to sqldev 2.1 and like Evita says all works fine, and like riedelme says saving the file it's possible to get expected results. Best regards!
