Are you kidding me? Are they going back in time with this design? I loved how on the G2, you can replace any part on the phone pretty much. I see so many charging port issues with phones and I guess charging port isn't replaceable on the g3. This is lame.

How the hell do you even manage to break the charger port? That takes a lot to break lol

Optimus battery

Hi Guys
I've got a crack in the back of my battery. It's about 1 cm in the corner of the plastic. Is this safe to continue to use?
If not, where can I source a decent replacement.
Thanks for the replies.
LOL. What happened to my phone is happened to someone else too here.
Yeah. I've cracks in the battery, it's 2 cracks near the gold metal.been using it for 2 weeks since it happened, got no problems. Battery use is still the same too. I guess I got the cracks because of removing battery over and over again when the phone's hang.

Possible
This 'could' be unsafe. Not sure. It depends on how stable it is.
My battery has had a crack for a couple of months, and no problems.

So it seems there is quite a few of us with cracked batteries.

Thanks for all your replies.

Cool. That means i won't need to be careful of my phone in the toilet. :3
Wicked! I hope to see this technology on electronics devices soon--on cameras (DSLRs), on watches, etc...

Someone posted a comment to the original article about the technology being flawed because it wouldn't allow a cable to attack to charge the device.
Does anyone know if this actually be a problem?

Amazing, never have to worry about using your phone in the rain again as well.
I hope this becomes standard.. and soon!
I have been lucky to never kill a phone with water (well there was a nokia dumbphone that went though the washing machine) but still, wow.

True but the rain would interupt with the capacitive screen making it nearly impossible to use in the rain anyway.
But this does look promising. Hope it starts rolling out on devices this year!

Hope they come out with something like a spray can so you can apply any device.
I'm pissed they aren't a publicly traded company. I would have definitely invested about a grand or so in them.

I guess induction charging and BT/WIFI transfers would solve this issue.

To be honest I haven't noticed that, but considering the fear of getting the bloody thing wet im not surprised.
Not dying in the wet it half way towards usable in the wet at least
(and considering when we get rain over here, we really get rain, bloody hell!)
(Also that's a stupidly good movie, gotta love Simon Pegg and Nick Frost)

Broken the USB port -_-

Last week when charging my phone, it slipped off my desk and something happened inside the phones USB port. The little metal contact was moved out of place. I could still charge, but it had to be at a certain angle and if I picked it up it stopped charging.
And this morning, I broke it even more. I dropped it into a bowl of milky cereal. I didn't think it would be too bad. I wiped it down and I've been using it fine all day at college. But I've just got home and went to test if it still charged. On my own little USB cord I had from elsewhere it didn't work, but on the official LG one it worked after a LOT of shuffling around and changing the angle.
I'm gonna leave it as it is to make sure it doesn't stop charging, because I don't have a wireless charger handy.. I would also prefer to get the official orb from Google, because I don't want to spend a lot of money of something that doesn't work very well.
I was wondering if there is a way to fix this myself, or can I get a replacement from Google/LG?

I'm actually quite careful with my phone! It's just very smooth and slippery..
I would call them and tell them it no longer charges.
See what they say. Worst thing they do is say not covered.
I would omit the milk and dropping parts.

So if I just say it's stopped charging, they might be kind a send a replacement without any hassle? Or would I have to return the device?
There is no need to leave a post in the respective thread if you are reporting something. Please stick to the topic guys.

Charging port cover

What's the over/under on this thing coming off??? Seems awfully flimsy to me.

here's to hoping a 3rd party makes a replacement? or something better. almost wanting to get the wireless setup just to avoid this being an issue.

I had an old Samsung flip phone years ago with a similar cover. It stayed in place and never broke.
Yeah and it depends on the user how long the phone will take weather it dont have the cover on it.
I had that Sammy also. It was the flip one with the keyboard. Cool phone!

Wholly crap hib i didnt see it was you, ya im on a guys gs5 selling him a wireless charger and noticed gs4 reciever works fine. Nice to see ya!!
The cover is really, really annoying. Especially for me, who uses bluetooth through my car speakers for my main music stuff. So each time I get in the car I plug the phone into the 12 volt. And each time, I have to pry open that cover. The worst part is, it doesn't even stay open! I also just got my Incipio dual layer protection case in the mail and now its even harder to get the charging cover off. It's really aggravating. I don't even think it closes correctly either. It always looks like its not snapped down all the way. Just, bleh. Most annoying quirk on the 4 Samsung phones I've owned.
just get the spare battery charge kit so you never have to mess with it. Its also a better means of going from zero to 100 than wireless charger

Yeah I'm not really sure what to do here. I have a bunch of 3D models for phone docks / car docks / etc for the gs3 and gs4, the battery cover is a total nuisance on the gs5, especially because it doesn't really stay open after you open it (I'm trying to imagine how to go about designing a dock for this thing).
I do 3D modeling and have a 3D printer, if anyone has an idea for an improvement... holler. I doubt we'll see any kind of other 3rd party replacement otherwise as it's attached to the phone and clearly involved with waterproofing. not sure if it's worth the trade-off!
anywho guess I'll be giving wireless charging a try again...
If you take off the battery cover there is a screw where it holds the USB cover just take it off your not prone to accidents

Yeah definitely good that it's easy to do that - personally I'm not really upset or frustrated; it's awesome to add waterproofing - I'm just trying to puzzle out the best way to keep the feature while also making the phone easy to slide into a dock (preferably with one hand), you know?

[Q] Sweet smell from headphone socket/USB port

This may have been asked before but I haven't found a concrete answer.
I randomly smelt my headphone socket and it smelt very sweet, like a pear drop. Same for the USB socket but not as strong. What do you think is happening?
Thanks!

I read about this here on XDA and it means the battery is leaking. I know it sounds strange but if you can, do the following :
1) take a nandroid backup
2) go stock
3) take it in for warranty and get it examined.
You might get a battery replacement if you're covered under warranty and are 100% stock.
I'm not totally sure but if the battery was already leaking I doubt the phone would work at all anymore.
