Upgrade news. - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

I heard from O2 today. The latest update (4.20 / 3.16.32) will not be release. This is due to some bugs (a few which I pointed out, and probably some more in beta testing). They are working on a new release, which should be available soon (6 weeks was mentioned).
I'll keep you posted.

so the new customers ARE being used as beta testers....
hmmm now let me see... no wonder the XDA runs an MS operating system, they are SO much like Microsoft as it is !!! lol.
arf arf

Noo, not a beta.
To cut a long story short, my XDA broke at the weekend. Fortunately it was in warranty so O2 sent me a new one. I was delighted to see a new version of software on it. O2 are now (well on mine anyway) shipping...
ROM: 3.16.32 ENG
Radio Ver: 4.20.00
Protocol Ver: 32S54
Well I have not yet revived a call on it. And as for the SMS there is still no contact name (Sigh).
Well if any one here something I should look out for let me know. And if you want to know any of the new bits post back here and I will try to help out.

update
i have had my new 64mb xda for a few weeks and it works much better then my 32 mb i am on 3.16 rom and 4.20 radio it only froze once on me and i have put loads of different stuff on it. its fine at the moment i am playing with some mms software

There isnt?
you tried this proggy I take it ?
almost as if it is an official update
http://www.penreader.com/PocketPC/SMS_Name.html

sms name
You need to store number in +44 for the SMS fix to work on 31632... just like the Orange SPIV phone.

Not convinced
I'll not be trusting o2 + M$ for a while again.
I'm looking at Orange next...
The XDA works well in principle. But as we can see the bugs are just too many to make people interested. Makes a good toy though!!

Asian rom 3.14.17 works with UK o2 XDA ?

Anyone tried to install asian rom (3.14.17) on UK O2 XDA device?
Problems?
Thanks for replying
I've done that, and it works. But why? There's a 3.15.15 O2 European ROM you could use....
where can i download it ?
this rom doesn't work with truefax

Im using it right now....rom 3.14.17ENG Radio 4.16.....it works fine
The Truefax thing on www.myxda... looks exactly what I want.
Will it work with UK latest i.e. ROM 3.14.13 and Radio 4.16? - it mentions 3.14.17, but some sites say the last .xx is not really a vital issue. I'm ok with PCs, but a bit wary of destroying my XDA with Asian flu and/or their Rom update.
Also, I note that it overwrites some .dll "just say yes" and that the KSE support looks a bit iffy - so keen, but nervous here.
thanks for any info
p.s. I bought the XDA assuming it would be a bit of a flakey toy (don't possess a separate mobile by choice) and was really waiting for the Intel design to come out - but have been bowled over by it in all honesty. I'm not a 'poser' by nature, but when people have expressed an interest and I've demonstrated it it really is amazing how jealous people get. The phone bills are less than expected too.
"OK, you can let go of my arm. Can I leave the showroom now?"

2k3 for T-Mo, but can you believe this?

Okay, yesterday afternoon, at the Mobility & Wireless Conference I met up with a T-Mo tech and account reps who confirmed that the 2k3 upgrade will be made available and be very soon, but cannot provide a date. They really want to make sure it is bug free and that they do not want to experience a Toshiba-like fiasco. They did not have an MDA available, although they said something about 11/1; however, their MDAs on display were already running 2k3! They allowed me to do a soft-reset and this is what I saw:
Same "Not for sale" T-Mobile splash screen as seen on 4.00.16 and .21.
ROM v.4.00.03
RS v6.23

- they stated that it has been running very well and stable and that this is their "x-th" build they've been exposed to. They are very aware of the versions tested on the forums here, but didn't really want to comment other than the later builds maybe buggy and warranty being voided, yada, yada, yada...and we left it at that.
They did reassure though that they want to release the most stable and well tested build as that is what the customers deserve - that is the reason for the delay.

I'm wondering how could T-mobile to make sure it is bug free .
all Microsoft products are full of bugs!
I have IPAQ with WM2003, it is buggy software. system crashes/frozens are very offen!
That's just bizzare! Their devices were running older builds than we have been running here!?
I'd certainly be happy for them to wait to get any radio stack bugs out....since there is certainly room for improvement.
Anyone ever seen radio stack 6.23?
..lance
I'm still curious as to the radio stack version that was stripped out of the 4.00.21 ROM...
T-mobile wants to make sure it is bug free . at least we need wait another 20 years!
the radio stack comes with 4.00.21 is 6.24.
if you need I could send to you!

This info was posted on pocketpcthoughs.com yesterday, I don't know how Janak over there found it. I tried looking for it through T-Mo's website but couldn't locate the page (perhapse I'm daft on that today).
I'm assuming its similar to the builds we've been seeing here in terms of versions.
There's only one person that I know of that has the info. you seek.
Maybe he'll read this thread and post it later on, we hope!

Hi all,
Qman, you're right! I'll post a hint of the latest
I'm currently in touch with a T-Mo rep in testing out a newer ROM and RS. I am patiently (actually anxiously) awaiting a test copy of:
ROM v4.00.39
RS 6.24.01
- as for any new additions on it I will not know until I see it (hopefully before the end of the week). He did however, hint that it very well may be the final release version announced, except that it lacks IMEI. In other words, the one coming out may be the same one I am about to test, but will include IMEI.
BTW: I seem to believe RS 6.28 may actually be a myth until cgigate or someone else actually shares it to all of us.
You're the man Rey and thanks!
Also drop me a email with a few details on how the Microsoft Pocket PC/Smartphone Users Group Tour went on Monday.
Actually, we have experienced bad T-mobile WM2003 upgrade (test version).
Too many problems to use T-mobile (US) customized WM2003 version, it is not good for non-T-mobile users
As I was just checking the t-mobile website, I noticed the link to the free upgrade notice has been removed. The direct URL still works and the page has not yet changed however. I guess that means either a) the upgrade will be available really really soon or b) the release has been postponed. Let's hope it's a. :|
Any news about the upgrade? Anyone talk to T-Mobile this week?
J
I'm testing it right now...so far no SD erasures (like in .21 and prior) and some nice refinements in the themes and default page - a "Set up email" tickler on the Today screen. RS 6.24.01 testing out really well for me so far. I'm under a casual NDL - and will go over what I can share here with T-Mobile next week.

That's great.
If you can you tell me:
1. what version number ?
2. how much space do we have for additional apps ?
3. any apps or mods significantly different since .21 ?
4. ETA for official release (probably next week ) ?
Thanks,
Decebal
Hi -
I want to be detailed next week, on the count of I'm in the middle of moving to a new house, packing for a cruise to Ensenada, and having just become a Contributing Editor for www.mpx200.org
but I will confirm this so far:
ROM version: 4.01.00
RS 6.24.01
So does this mean that there might be an Upgrade for the 02 XDA as well?
Does anyone have any updated information on the official release of WM2003 from T-Mobil?
Thanx.
Keep your eyes open on this board. I'm sure as soon as they post it on their website, it will be BIG news here!
Thanx Greg. I'm waiting as fast as I can....just thought someone would have an update on the progress.
The web page is gone
I tried to go to the web page this morning and it is gone. Are they releasing it today, maybe?
http://www.t-mobile.com/promos/ppc2003/default.asp
I'm just awaiting a reply from my contact before I can divulge anymore - overall, though, I'm very satisfied with this version I've been testing - no SD card erasures yet (cross my fingers). Investigating a couple of things though...

O2 uk new rom (end of this month)

After weeks of calling O2 and moaning on and on about the locked old 1.43 rom today I have been told by O2 we WILL finaly have a new rom (i guess 1.72) last day of march!
Finally
We were suppose to have it 2 weeks ago...I wont be holding my breath about this...we will see...
Unbelievable how long it's taken o2 to give people an official upgrade. Thank the lord for xda-devs, eh? HSPL & freedom all the way!
i bet its 1.66 rom o2 are really slacking at the moment....
Any clues where it will be available to download?
Really now so what is this the third or fourth date that we have heard. I will believe it when i see it as they say.
and yes I am pessimistic, especially when it comes to O2 and updates...
Also MidnightDraven it will be on the HTC site or may HTC Pedia, if it gets leaked....
Ahh good. thanks for that.
Lets hope it turns up then.
I doubt 1.72 .. It's incredibly frustrating dealing with them. I understand the reasons, but they don't help at all. And after all this waiting, chances are that they have only been looking at 1.48 and 1.66....... O2 suck.
It's about bloody time too - I just hope they actually keep to their word this time
Has anyone else confirmed this? I'll try give 'em a ring after work later.......£10 says they will tell me a different date!

At least they might understand you when you mention "ROM" or "Update" as they thought I wanted a new phone, even after explaining it in an email with links to HTC's ROM updates.
Are O2 usually so bad at releasing ROMs? I have personally never flashed one before, but i've waited, as you all have, ages for an official update.
Yeh they are
got the wrong thread a little...
I must be missing something here but.....who cares? I have an O2 Leo and the only time I would consider using an official O2 rom is if I was returning it for repair like I had to recently.

Well I would like to flash my first ROM, and preferably one I know for sure will work. So I am quietly optimistic about the new ROM and the features it will have on it. Otherwise I will probably sit with the one I have for a bit longer before considering using a cooked ROM.

Install HSPL and flash any rom you want. Providing you follow the instructions there is absolutely no need to use a network rom, none of them can hold a candle to a decent cooked rom. You will probably never see WM 6.5.5 on any official network rom yet there are various cooked roms that offer the opportunity to experience Windows Mobile and capacitive screens working reasonably well together for the first time. Xannytech's Evolution 1.4 which I'm using is just one of them.

I think you have been the catalyst in my trying a new ROM, I have HSPL installed now and I am going to have a look around for a ROM to suit me.
Oh and by the way, loving the avatar, Bill is a legend!
any more news on if this just mightbe genuine?
Good luck, t-mobile promissed us the same thing by the end of this month and we got given the original ROM (1.43) probably because they thought , nobody will know it's not an update
I thought sod it so flashed hardspl and then the official HTC rom (1.66), gone from rebooting the thing 5+ times a day to once every 3 days or so (which I can live with)
I doubt 1.72 .. It's incredibly frustrating dealing with them.

Hd2 software update don't do it!!

guys/gals do not upgrade you HD2 with a new software, it make it instable... many people have been reported issues with the phone, that they never had before.... so do yourself a favor don't do it! i did it and now i can listen to music it will show the tittle but it wont play it.. any advice?? thanks
If you have only just upgraded the software and you have a lot of songs, the song wont play untill it fully indexes all the files, give it some time and it will work.
Flash a custom rom for better stability
Give some details like witch ROM version causing this problems.
i did the software upgrade from t-mo usa

Where you find that version? I have latest ROM 1.66 WWE for Europe. I know is newer - 1.72.xxx but for Taiwan. Maybe your rom is not official?
he's talking about the US tmobile ROM that was pulled for not working.
The only problem I've got is the on screen phone buttons won't work during a phone call... real pain no pressing one!
Tap & slide makes the screen buttons work! SOOO... I have no problems now! I understand there are problems if you have purchased one of the preloaded games. However, they do warn you ahead of time.
official from t-mo usa. they just pull it off from the web site,

official from t-mo usa. they just pull it off from the web site I will keep you guys informed as soon as the new release is posted.
Well I can honestly say that I have had absolutely no problems with this update! I have read all the stories about issues with the 2.13 update like weaker signal and screen sensitivity but everything couldn't be better! Screen works great if not better. Signal has somewhat improved. I used too have a problem with the native music player but now it works perfectly!
This update couldn't have come at a better time cause I was near returning this phone. The one thing i hated about this phone was that the swype didn't work the way i thought it would. It was actually one of the reasons i wanted to get it! It's so much better now, that I have written this whole reply on my hd2 using swype!
So i guess it could be device dependent or maybe it could be a bad download that you got. Try to download it again or from another source. I got mine here on xda but i forgot from which thread! Well i hope you get it ironed out cause the HD2 is a really great phone with so much potential!
i just bought my phone a week ago and i came with rom: 2.13.531.1 os version: 5.2.21892. and i cant even make it a day without the battery dying. what can i do to run longer? and the sms seems to lag just a lil bit.

I'm sorry you're having problems! I've had an opposite experience - better battery and more stable. Check the forum for battery saving advice... the best of which is turn off automatic backlight!
Mine got more stable as well with the update, my battery lasted about a day of pretty good usage so I wont complain. Light usage is about a day and a half / 2 days tops.
My only complaint is the less sensitive screen.
well i read that an update got pulled about a week ago and thats when i got my phone, but i talked to tmobile and they said they have put it back up so im goin to update as soon as i get a chance.
only reason it was pulled from the official upgrade site was lack of bandwidth....it's back up now and for those of you who are running stock roms, i HIGHLY suggest upgrading it will increase the device stability considerably, also it will fix some reception issues. overall highly recommended.
You Know... they ought to change the name of this thread.
